EPISODE THIRTY THREE
THEME: Not bluffing
MOON STONE FORTRESS
AT THE MALL
Lorelei stepped into the mall trying to look around for Claire who had called her. The mall was just a stone throw to the infirmary and she didn’t need to worry about getting off her break late. Checking through her watch, she realized she still has about a hour to spare.
Lorelei moved swiftly towards the opened restaurant located inside the mall, she sighted Claire sitting with Sebastian and to her surprise Jaylen was seated to. He seem more distracted by the activities of the mall, as his eyes was everywhere. She walked towards them in hurried steps.
“Hey guys!” Lorelei called out as she hugged Claire briefly and waved at her brother and Jaylen.
They all said back their hellos as she settled into the vacant seat next to Jaylen. Jaylen felt his wolf moved happily as her smell hit his nostrils. He wanted to lean into her so bad but he held back his happy wolf.
Lorelei looked more beautiful and relax from the last time he had seen her. Even though it had only been a day, it seem like ages. Being next to her this way felt good and he didn’t want it to end.
Clearing her throat, Lorelei said. “How are you, Jaylen? Have you had enough rest? I know Claire here won’t let you out of her sight in any second and would have bothered you too much.”
Jaylen was about to respond when Claire cut in with a laughter. “Why would you even say that? I have been a good and reasonable host.” She bluffed.
“Of course you have, by intending to rip me off my money.” Jaylen noted, laughing hard when Claire reached out to hit his shoulder.
“Aren’t they all rippers?” Sebastian stated as he looked towards his own sister.
“Oh please, living off you is the best job to have.” Lorelei defended herself.
They all laughed together. They shifted into talking randomly about different things. Just as their orders arrived, Jaylen’s phone rang. Jaylen checked who the caller was and he smiled widely. Immediately Jaylen excused himself to pick the call.
‘How is my favorite person doing?’ He blared into the receiver, leaning into a nearby pole.
Rosalyn chuckled softly. ‘Don’t make me blush too hard.’
‘You know it’s true. Lying isn’t really my thing.’
‘I see why Gabriella always refers to you as a charmer. You are too good with your words.’
Jaylen laughed. ‘I can’t help being that way, can I?’
‘So, tell me. How has it been so far?’
‘Truth be told?’ He paused.
‘Yes?’
‘Not bad. I have had a talk with my parents and it wasn’t so bad.’
‘And what about your brother?’ She asked. There was a little bit of hesitation in her voice.
Jaylen kept quiet for a brief second. ‘Actually he got thrown in the dungeon last night all because of me.’
Rosalyn gasped out. ‘You don’t say!’
‘I was so perplexed. I had even began planning to probably return to Chicago today.’
‘What exactly happened?’
‘He got angry seeing me and began throwing tantrums. One thing dad doesn’t like is you losing your manners right in his presence. Due to that, he had to ask the guards to keep him in the prison for the time being.’ Jaylen explained.
‘That’s tough. How are you feeling?’
He grinned to himself. ‘Very much better now that I have heard your voice.’
‘Why do you always play around?’ She asked followed by a giggle. ‘Oh what can I do with you?’
Stay by my side for a long time. He wanted to say but he held back his words. ‘Thank you so much Rosalyn. I guess I am beginning to get the closure I had always wanted all this years.’
‘It’s nothing, Jaylen. Please just ensure to take your time through the healing process. You deserve to be as happy as a goose.’
‘That reminds me, a certain person caught my attention-‘ He began talking but heard some voices in the background talking to Rosalyn.
‘Do you mind if I call you later?’ She said.
‘Oh, of course don’t let me stop you.’ Jaylen responded although feeling a bit disappointed. He had wanted to tell her about Lorelei and how beautiful she was.
“Is everything okay between you both?” Lorelei asked him as he sat down.
Her eyes had caught the name of the caller and how happy he seemed to pick the call. She had felt a clench in her heart, that she couldn’t explain. She had no right to feel that way but the pettiness inside of her had made her to ask Jaylen what the conversation had been about. Jaylen looked like he had been rejected.
Adjusting his body to face her a bit, he smiled. “Yes, we are good. She is a bit busy at the moment.”
“Oh.” Lorelei mouthed.
“She is my personal assistant and my most trusted person.” Jaylen added.
“You two must be really close then.” Lorelei noted as she played with her drink.
Watching her closely, Jaylen could easily almost pick a sense of jealousy in Lorelei’s tone but he felt it was him seeing things.
“Yes we are so close. She has been my companion for a long time.” He admitted
“Hmm. That’s nice.” She grumbled.
“So, tell me why did you decide to become a practicing member instead?”
She smiled. “Why do you ask?”
“Knowing someone who has the same job as my mom makes me really keen on finding out their motivation.” Jaylen answered.
“How did you know I work at the infirmary?” Lorelei asked with a raised eyebrow.
“Claire had been quick to give me a full profile description.” Jaylen told her with his eyes full of excitement.
Looking towards Claire who seem so engrossed in the discussion she was having with Sebastian, Lorelei shook her head. “Very typical of Claire.” She noted.
“So tell me.” Jaylen urged her.
“Well having my mom and god mother which is your mom as my role models have helped quite a lot.” She said with a shrug.
“Not denying the fact that they can have such effect on you. No doubt.”
“What do you do?” Lorelei asked.
“I own a chain of companies in Chicago. And not to brag but my company is one of the top rated in Chicago at the moment and we intend to go further into becoming most sort after in America.” He said it so smoothly without missing a beat.
“Wow! Wow! Wow! That’s impressive.” Lorelei cooed. “Claire!” She called out to her friend.
“What?!” Claire scowled for distracting her from the discussion with Sebastian.
“You didn’t tell me your brother was this rich!”
Putting a hand to her chest dramatically, Claire tilted her head. “Bluffing is really not my thing. But you can check Google.”
Sebastian laughed out. “Shows how much you ain’t even bluffing a little.”
Shaking his head, Jaylen shifted a bit in his seat. “I see what you both are doing. Don’t even think about it.”
“Trust them to have made a mental list of how to spend your money.” Sebastian gave him a first hand warning.
Leaning into the chair, he folded his arms. “Don’t worry girls, I got you both anytime.”
“Now that’s what we call rich!” Lorelei said, sharing an high-five with Claire. The both of them giggled.
Checking her wristwatch it was already about ten minutes to the end of her break. She cleaned up her mouth and picked her bag up. She shifted the chair backwards. “I should get going now guys, see you all later.”
“Let me walk you through the exit.” Jaylen said hurriedly as he stood up.
“You really don’t have to.” She responded before blowing kisses in a dramatic way to all of them.
“Bye Lorelei. See you later!” Claire called out as she walked away in a hurry.
