I called an ambulance before I finally went upstairs.
Out of fear, I quickly ran upstairs. Even when I am weak, I keep my position so that I do not fall. The handrail became my support. Tears welled up in my eyes as I remembered the image of Hugo lying on the floor, bathed in his blood.
I hurriedly picked up the suitcase and, trembling, picked up the clothes I had pulled out. I no longer chose the clothes I would wear. All I could think about was how to get out of this house. My hands don’t stop with the trembling. The other clothes were already stained with blood. When the suitcase was full, I closed it and jotted it down. Before I left, I washed my hands. I did not stop sobbing, especially when I passed Hugo’s body with no rescue. I wanted to hug him and help him, but anger was more prevalent in me.
I immediately hailed a taxi. It’s a good thing someone passed by because it’s already night, so it’s rare for a cab to pass. I just cried inside that car as the driver watched me. Fortunately, I still have money and cash left. I didn’t leave my cards in a hurry, because I also can’t use them when I get to where I want to go.
When I arrived at the ship terminal, police officers were waiting and doing inspections. My heart is beating fast. I’m not sure who they’re looking for. I looked at my body for bloodstains. I saw a dot of blood there, so I quickly tuck in my clothes. I was just going straight when the police suddenly stopped me. I was startled and my heart raced. My hands were shaking, even more, they had calmed down earlier.
“Are you okay, miss? Why do you look so pale?” He brought his face closer to me to check, but I quickly avoided him and backed away. I was suddenly scared, so I looked at him with uncomfortable eyes.
“Y-yes. I’m just not used to noisy places. And it’s already night so I’m getting a little cold.” I smiled to be assured when I saw another policeman was approaching. I spun around and ran to pull my suitcase away from them. I lined up immediately to leave instantly.
When I bought the ticket, I immediately boarded the ship. It was only then that I breathed a sigh of relief because I knew I was safe. I bought the ticket at the farthest destination.
I looked at the shore as the ship slowly pulled away. I thought of the many memories that happened to the two of us. From teasing, laughing, crying and times, I thought everything was fine. I think I was just given a teaser for a more painful event that would take place in my life. I smiled bitterly because it never crossed my mind that this would happen. If only I had the power to know if I would be hurt in the future, maybe I would end up better now. I held my stomach, which is quite visible now, then whispered in the air.
“Please. Hold on tight to mommy. ”
I also spent five days on the ship before finally landing in the province where I will live. Just as I was coming down, I heard the noisy man picking up the fish. I was dizzy from the noise as well as the foul smell of the fish. I have also been suppressing my hunger for a few days. Because the food provided on the ship is enough, even if I want to buy food, I can’t because I have to save the money I have. I can’t use my cards because they might be detected. It’s good to be doubly careful.
I do not know where to start. Whether it’s finding a place to stay or buying food for my baby. While thinking, a man suddenly walked up to me. I immediately smelled the pungent odor of the fish. I didn’t look at him because I was thinking more about my stomach as if it wanted to vomit. When I was about to speak, a woman approached and walk in front of me. He suddenly pulled the ear of the man who was holding me.
“How long do I have to repeat to you that your friendliness suddenly becomes a scare to newcomers here, huh?” She is now squeezing the man’s ear while the man is complaining. I just watch them.
“Ouch! Aw!”
“You have to be sympathetic, miss to my brother. He is kind, he just doesn’t know how to think.” She apologizes to me as he bows his brother’s head to apologize. I just smiled because I didn’t mind it. I just really don’t like the smell of fishy fish. She looked at me from head to toe. Then the eye widened.
“You are pregnant! Do you already have a place to stay? Or will you visit someone here?” She let go of his brother’s ear.
I scratched my head in embarrassment. After all, they have already talked to me. I will also ask them to help me find a house to rent. “Nothing yet. I’m just looking for something to rent. Can you help me?”
His brother immediately grabbed the suitcase, and she, in turn, put her arm around my arm. She is not like the smell of the others here. She smiled at me, then replied. “We have a house where we allow someone to rent it. You can rent it! It’s cheap and I’ll give you a discount! What do you think?”
They looked kind and trustworthy, so I just nodded.
Before I could finally join them, I stopped. I looked back at the sea we had passed through. It was too far when I got here. How is Hugo? Can he be rescued? After five days, what was happening just sank into my mind. I can’t deny I was worried about him.
I look back at the two people waiting for me. What life awaits me here? Will I be able to raise my child here properly and not be recognized by the police? I took a deep breath, then followed them.
Whatever life awaits me, I hope it will be different in the city where I lived full of bitterness and resentment.
