The person who bought the coconut came and then cut it outside the house. The 19 pieces are already in the kitchen. Mommy Helena says it’s a reserve in case I search again. I’m glad because they take care of me.
As I watched the man slice, he was talking to me. “My wife, Ma’am is just like you. When she was pregnant, she wanted the pickles to be mixed with peanut butter. I even laughed at first, but when I didn’t give her what she wanted and just laughed at her, she cried. After I gave it to her, she didn’t talk to me for almost a week.”
I laughed at what he said because who else has a simpler life; they are still truly happy. After he cut the coconut in the top, he poured the water into the glass. I got excited after he cut it in the middle. When he was about to remove the flesh, I stopped him. I will put the ketchup in there. I ran into the kitchen. When Estella saw me, she blocked me. She warned me not to run because I could slip.
I smiled at her and then nodded. I walked slowly because those tiles had a chance that I would slip. When I was in the kitchen, I reached for the ketchup on the top of the cabinet but I couldn’t reach it. Until there was a hand to take there, then it was given to me.
Hugo.
I just took that and smiled sparingly. I don’t have to force myself to make him like me. Maybe, the things I showed are enough. When I was out of the kitchen, I suddenly went back to get a spoon. Hugo looked at me, but I ignored him. Before I could finally get out, I saw his sad and bitter eyes. Right when I came out, I saw Soleil. She stopped, but I didn’t stop. I just kept walking, and I didn’t want her to waste any more time. Only destiny will make way for what really should happen. I’ll just leave everything to it.
I took the coconut held by the man who cut it earlier. I went to the lobby to go to mommy Helena, and I saw someone with whom she was talking. I guess that’s the organizer. I approached her then I scoop the coconut with ketchup. They looked at me.
I looked at the brochure they were holding. Those are the clothes the guests will wear to the wedding itself. Mommy Helena gave it to me. “Adele, how about this? It’s emerald in color. Things on the beach you like. It doesn’t hurt the eyes because the color is not strong.”
She was right, because it was beautiful, for it to match the color of the sea and the high rays of the sun from the bright sky. I even moved the pages, but there was no other color to match the theme they were saying. I agreed the gowns would be the same color. Hugo and I had been choosing what to wear for a long time before we went to the province, so there was no problem.
I sniffed once more and rubbed a shell of the coconut. I saw their reactions as if disgusted by what I was eating. While it was delicious for me. Is it weird? It’s only now that I’ve discovered that it’s delicious to eat and a combination of it.
I took another shell and offered it to them. I couldn’t even say a word when they suddenly refused. Suddenly I felt sad. Because of what they did, tears welled up in my eyes. I suddenly sniffed, so their eyes widened.
“No. No. Adele. I’m still full. You also said you like that, didn’t you?” Mommy Helena was comforting me as I looked at the organizer, who was awkwardly smiling at me.
“Ma’am Adele, I’m full too. Before I came here, I ate.” Suddenly, his eyes widened, and pointed at the man behind me. “You can give it to Sir Hugo. They say pregnant food is what their husbands like. Hehe.”
I looked at Hugo with pleading eyes. I offered him the coconut with ketchup. His eyes were still wondering, but when he saw my eyes, he quickly scooped up the coconut and then swallow it. Suddenly my face lit up, and I hugged him suddenly.
He pats my head and then pinched my cheek. Joy replaced his previously somewhat depressed eyes. Soleil passed by again and looked at us. I couldn’t get her reaction because it was covered. As we gathered, a series of visitors arrived. They were carrying bags as they quickly hugged and waved to mommy Helena. I haven’t seen daddy Adelard since morning; I don’t know where he is.
I whispered to Hugo, “Why are the guests so early? Isn’t the wedding still long?” I watched the successive entrants. They are rich too. Their stances are even richer. The last to enter were mid-age adults who seemed to be as old as mommy Helena. They kissed mommy Helena on the cheek and talked.
Before they turned to me, Hugo answered my question. “What do you mean? Weren’t you told that the wedding is next week?” His eyes now became serious. He approached his aunts and uncles, who now turned to me. They all smiled at me and then hugged me.
“I didn’t know that one day I would see Hugo get married.” That woman was smiling, then I just realized that she looked like mommy Helena. My eyes got bigger, then I realized they are a twin.
After they hugged and shook hands with me, I heard their “CONGRATULATIONS” while I was still here standing while unable to believe that my wedding was next week.
The night ended quickly. All the guests are resting. I didn’t even know when I fell asleep. I also became drowsy when I was pregnant. The day I used to spend watching, now I just sleep. I want my baby to cling to me even more.
I woke up early in the morning. I looked at the side table, but there was no water there. I wanted to wake Hugo, but I knew he was tired too. So I just went down.
When I got downstairs, I saw Soleil and mommy Helena in the lobby. Seriously conversing.
