Not deserving

I just came back to myself when Winter slapped Charlotte with the purse she was holding. My eyes widened and I looked at the woman I was covering. The angry eyes and hateful look she had finally brought me back. How did this happen?
I stopped her from slapping Charlotte again since I wanted no more issues. When she went out the door, I realized it was my last hope and the last time I’d seen her. My entire world appeared to come crashing down around me. I swiftly followed her, even though I was naked, and I glared bitterly at the woman in our room with me. I’m not sure I’ll be able to use this place again every time I remember my betrayal of Winter.
“I did not mean.” That was all I could think of since my mouth felt dry and my mind was blank. Even though I wanted to justify myself and say that I didn’t mean what occurred, no words came out of my mouth, no sentences formed in my head.
When she yelled at me, my world crumbled even further. I couldn’t help but lower my head because I had once again wounded and disappointed her. If only I dared to tell her everything if only I had the opportunity to explain the truth, but when Charlotte shoved Winter down the stairs, I knew my fractured connection with Winter was destroyed. I tried to offer my hand to her, but it was clear from the expression that simply touching me disgusted her.
I pushed Charlotte hard and lifted Winter’s body. I was shocked at the blood coming out. I turned pale to see her holding her stomach as if she was protecting it. I am a man and should not cry, but when it comes to Winter, I become weak. I can’t bear to see her like this. This is the second time. Am I the reason you are becoming miserable? Please, I’ll do whatever you want as long as you don’t just be like this.
Even to set you free, I will do. Just please … not like this.
Trembling, I start the car and had no idea how we’d gotten to the hospital. I only knew she was on a stretcher with wheels. I do not know where my phone is, and I have no idea who to call. I knew she wouldn’t be searching for me anymore if she ever opened her eyes. There were tears in my eyes when I sat down in one of the waiting chairs. I’m laughing at myself because I’m sobbing because of my stupidity.
Alex, Turstin, and Ava arrived just a few hours later. I’m not sure who called their number. Alex’s enraged eyes welcomed me immediately. He threatened me and punched me, but I couldn’t fight back since I didn’t have the strength. Turstin looked after us, but I was unconcerned about what they did to me. All I want to see is the state of Winter.
The operating room door slammed open, and the doctor exited. He took off his mask and looked around with sorrowful eyes. That was obvious to me immediately away. Even though he hasn’t said anything, I’m certain. Can someone smack me in the face for what I’ve done?
“Who is the patient’s relative?” He looked around and Ava quickly approached. Turstin followed. Alex looked at me badly before he followed. I did not interpret them, but I could hear what the doctor said. All the hope I had accumulated earlier while waiting was gone.
“Nothing should cause concern for the patient; the sole issue is the baby in the womb. Even though it had a firm grasp, it did not survive, with the stomach taking the brunt of the injury. This may be the first strike; the second could be his head, but the inspection indicates that it is stable.” Before continuing, he took a look at my seat. “Do you happen to be the husband? I recommend that you place your wife in a relaxing environment since what transpired might result in her developing a mental health condition.”
After he left, my brain went away again. With so much happening, I don’t know what to think first. Would everything have changed if I hadn’t drunk the wine Charlotte gave? Would everything have changed if I hadn’t let Charlotte go to our home? My head breaks at what I should have thought, but Alex’s punch woke me up.
“You have no shame! I wouldn’t have let Winter come to you if I had known what was going to happen, even if she resisted a few more times! Turstin and I know you’re the one I trust out of the three of us since you’re like a brother!” He attempted to hit me but stopped. “I’m never going to let you touch Winter again. I’m taking her back from you; I’ve given you enough time.” I heard the last thing he said before he left.
“I’m hoped I didn’t let Winter pick you when she urged me to end our relationship. You aren’t deserving of her tears.”
