When people were used to living alone, they wouldn’t feel lonely.
If they did, they must be thinking about someone.
Brought up by his grandfather, James was not close to his parents. Sometimes he tried to get close to his mother.
But she looked at him with disgust.
He was a smart boy. He gave a cold shoulder to his mother as she treated him like a stranger.
He saw other children were spoiled in their parents’ arms, he wouldn’t care about it at first.
When he was alone, he would also ask himself whether he had done something wrong to anger his parents. However, his arrogance didn’t allow him to get close to his parents since they were indifferent to him.
When he saw the warm picture of those families again, he just felt apathetic.
His grandfather, the only person he was close to in this world, passed away when he was ten years old, which made him more indifferent to family affection.
It was the reason why he would sympathize with Kara, who lost her parents at such a young age.
Perhaps, he just sympathized with himself who had a similar experience to this little girl. So he did his best to protect her.
As James gradually got along with her, he realized that he fell in love with her. However, he did not hold back his love and he just got closer to her step by step and became her boyfriend.
He would do his best to protect her in the future.
He would keep those injuries away from her. If she was willing to go through, he would accompany her.
If she didn’t want to face those injuries, she can rely on him for a lifetime.
Kara looked up to find the man had been watching her. She scratched her little head, took off the protective covering, and checked it. After ensuring there was no paint or strange smell on her body, she walked up to him.
“Am I getting more and more beautiful?”
He was reading a book by the window when she stood in front of him and put her white arms around his neck.
The little girl was mischievous. Every time he sat, she would stand to see him from above.
But James didn’t like to look up at people. He reached his arms out to let her sit on his lap and pinched her nose.
“You are still quite far from being beautiful. You can just be considered to have a nice looking.”
He found it interesting when he saw she wrinkled her nose and was so angry to bite him.
Kara didn’t care about his words. She raised her smiling face. There was a bit of seriousness in her giggle.
“Having a nice-looking is also a good word from you. I can take it as a compliment.”
James didn’t know what to say. His girl was gentle but very optimistic which surprised him.
“Don’t move. I’m about to finish this book.”
She wanted to move from his legs, but James stopped her and warned in a cold voice.
There were only a few pages left of the book. When he came home early from work, he would read by the window.
He read most of the books she had prepared.
Kara puffed up her cheeks and angrily knocked her forehead against his chest, but he didn’t move at all.
She leaned against his shoulder in annoyance and found that she read this book yesterday of which she didn’t finish the last few pages.
She lowered her head and intended to read the book with him, only to find that his hand that held the book blocked her view, so she moved his hand away.
James was not angry. He held her little hand and found it was cold, so he warmed it in his hand.
Kara did not struggle because his hand was warm. She was still reading the book carefully.
Suddenly, he turned the pages and she quickly stopped him.
“James, I haven’t finished it yet.”
When James saw her acting like a spoiled child he pinched her cheeks and turned the pages back.
As he often read books and his reading speed and comprehension were faster than hers, he had to wait for her.
In the evening of summer, half of the sky was kindled by the red sunset.
In the studio with the afterglow, a girl sat quietly on a man’s lap, lowering her head to read the book.
The handsome man looked at the girl in his arms affectionately and gently.
In the afterglow, they were as beautiful as an oil painting.
When Jeffery passed by the studio and saw this scene, he couldn’t help but take out his phone to record this beautiful scene.
Although his phone was muted, he felt the man’s icy gaze over him when he took a photo. He was so scared that he almost dropped his phone.
He gave the man an innocent smile and left gingerly.
“James, I’ve finished. Turn the page.”
…
James found his girl was used to ordering him!
Although he was not comfortable with the order, he still turned the page. He slowed down his reading speed and gently rubbed her little head with one hand.
When she was comfortable, she would rub against his palm with her head like a kitten.
She was used to pleasing him in this way.
Kara was just lazy. When she wanted to turn the page, she would squeeze his hand and blink at him.
He simply couldn’t do anything with her. This little girl became quite daring.
Kara finally finished the book and was still somewhat unsatisfied.
When she was to put the book back, her lower jaw was raised by the man. He lowered his head to kiss her.
In the beginning, he licked her lips with patience, but gradually he wanted more and started to reach into her clothes.
“James…”
The atmosphere was just right. Kara did not refuse at first, but when she realized that the situation was a little out of control, she quickly stopped him.
They were still at the studio. If he dared to do something to her, she would not forgive him!
James didn’t insist. He kissed her for a while, breathing heavily. His lower jaw rested on her shoulder and rubbed against her neck.
Kara wanted to dodge for she felt a little itchy when his breath spread behind her ear.
Immediately, they began to chase each other.
When they went downstairs to go home, they saw Larry staring at them with a straight face.
“This is not a place for your romance but drawing. You really think of it as a dating place.”
Kara was so embarrassed that half of her face turned red. She lowered her head to admit her mistake.
James didn’t care what he said. He held Kara’s hand calmly and glanced at Larry.
“I have the right to hook up with my wife. If you are jealous, just say it.”
…
Larry saw them showing affections. He was so angry that he asked them to get out of here.
…
Kara covered her face and ran out.
Kara got in the car and touched her cheek that was still hot. She turned her head away from him.
James held her hand calmly.
Kara could not take out her hand, so she gave up and turned to look out of the window, pretending nothing had happened.
She looked out of the window and suddenly saw a group of kids after school. A little girl standing at the kindergarten gate reminded her of Boa.
Why did Boa want to hurt her?
