Chapter Twenty-Four – Prepare again.
Chris POV
Beta Gaius glanced from me to Jake and then at Ray, “What allegations? What have I been accused with?”
I threw the scroll on his feet so he could have a look. He hurriedly picked it up and his eyes widened while reading each line.
He fell to his knees. “You had a spy in our pack, didn’t you, Jake?!” he snapped his head at Jake.
“That’s a poor way to deflect an accusation, Gaius.” Ray smirked. “It seems you are guilty. And yes, Black Rose have spies everywhere.”
Jake nodded, proudly. “Our specialty.”
My forehead creased. Shouldn’t Ray be alarmed that Black Rose had a spy in each pack? He seemed rather chill with it.
I should be as well, it’s not like I had anything to hide. “Very well, guards!”
Two guards ran into the hall, and saluted.
Ray hurried in front of me. “My King, I think we should settle the matter of the Lycan before throwing Gaius to prison!”
Gaius glared at him.
I never planned to throw Gaius in prison but out of my palace and restrict him from ever visiting till his Alpha came and decided his punishment.
But compared to threatening a Delta’s life, he deserved more than that.
“Yes, the Lycan. Sorry Gaius, I’d tell your Alpha that I refuse the trade. However, you can handle Your Silver as you like.” I smiled at him.
He dejectedly got to his feet and bowed his head.
“Fair judgement my King.” Delta Jonah said and bowed. I noticed the smirk he had on as he bowed.
He should be happy with the results anyway. With nothing else to do, could I go back to bed?
“But Alpha, I feel this silver wolf shouldn’t be taken for granted.” Ray said. “You know Silver wolfs are part of prophecy.”
“If they are, why are they destroying our lands? I feel this Your Silver has plans of taking over our Kingdom!” Gaius barked at Ray.
I shuddered at that realization. Your Silver? Could that really be his plan after all? Get a lot of slaves to overthrow me?
Suddenly, there was a shout of pain. I looked down to the men below me and found Gaius on the ground holding his left arm.
A three fingered claw mark had been drawn on that arm and was oozing out blood.
“Don’t ever bark at me, again!” Ray growled, his eyes flashed orange and he flexed his fingers, ready for Gaius if he spat out another rubbish.
Gaius nodded, looking down. Even I couldn’t stand Ray when he was mad.
Thankfully, the only time he had ever been mad at me was at Rihanna’s death, I didn’t plan to do anything worse than that.
“Take him away now!” I ordered the guards and they dragged Gaius away. Ray calmly went back to the side and stood.
Jake and his Delta had happy smiles so I used that as an avenue to make an unusual request.
“So while we handle Red Moon’s crimes, would you stay at my palace?”
If will be important to get to know Jonah personally, hopefully he’d be as easy going, but less stalling, than his Alpha.
And even if I wasn’t excited to house Jake, he could have a chance to bond with Vanessa. She had made open to me she wanted him for a mate.
Even if that wasn’t quite how it worked.
I noticed the two stared into space, possibly mind linking. Jonah came forward and bowed. “It will be my pleasure, My King.”
“Hmm, the pleasure is all mine. I’d make sure you enjoy your visit and get something to give to your mate and Alpha on return.”
He chuckled. “I have no mate yet.”
“Pray you don’t find her here then, or you won’t be able to leave.” Ray joked and Jake laughed.
I felt there was more meaning to it but ignored it. Getting a mate here will be a beautiful memory for him, he should want that.
I excused myself from them and hurried to tell the sobbing Luna of mine to prepare two rooms for our guests, this time, she shouldn’t mess up.
She wasn’t at the door where I had left her. I didn’t really expect her to be, but she should be close.
I walked towards my sister’s room and heard she and Sasha gossiping. My eyes rolled as I pushed the door opened.
They both sprang to their feet, Sasha looking down while Vanessa giving me a hateful look. I bet her best friend reported on me, again.
“Jake Justin of Black Rose and Delta Jonah of Black Rose are staying here for a while, prepare some rooms.”
They didn’t move, and glanced behind my back.
“Since Sasha isn’t your wife, why don’t you tell the maid to do that? Why are you ordering her about if she’s only a ceremonial Luna?”
I recognized the person who spoke and sighed. “Father, do you mean I can’t order by Luna?”
“Then, do with respect.” He came in front of me.
He gestured to Vanessa and Sasha to leave and carry out my orders. They both scampered away, with their heads down.
“Noted then, I’d do it with some respect.” I said, attempting to leave.
“Also,” He continued and I stopped. “I just saw the guards taking Gaius away on allegations of falsifying records?”
I stopped, sighing.
“He and his Alpha should be ashamed. I never knew everything in my record were faked. Even the price of grandfather’s staff….”
“I knew.” My father interrupted.
I tilted my head in confusion. He knew they were fake? Why didn’t he do anything?
“You know your mother is from Red Moon Pack, she wanted…”
“Wanted what?” it was my turn to interrupt him.
He sighed. “She wanted Red Moon to be second in command after Black Hills. I couldn’t grant her that as Black Rose had more power.”
“And so? You decided to turn a blind eye to the deeds of her pack to please her? What about the other packs that got cheated?” I asked, lowly.
He said nothing and placed his hands in his pockets. “Well, I am no longer the Alpha. Handle this case as you like.”
“Surely, I’d correct this.” I turned to leave again.
“And don’t be swayed by your mother.” I stopped again.
“If your mother asks you to pity Red Moon, don’t. Black Rose brought this case to you so you must handle it. They are more powerful.”
Hearing my father telling me to ignore my mother annoyed me but he made sense.
And I wasn’t going to handle the case because Black Rose was powerful, but because it was the right thing.
The last three years, I’ve been learning to make decisions on my own. My mother couldn’t sway this. “Alright, father.” I replied, and walked off.
