Kiara POV
I could feel my heart gladden as I fled from his grasp, laughing wholeheartedly at the dejected look on his face, but he quickly replaced it with a sneer, a deep sneer embedded at every corner of his lips as he said, “What a hard game, sweetheart. I’ll make sure you beg for it later” He said jokingly, I just laughed the more, planting my ass on my seat. As soon as I sat down, my cellphone vibrated on the desk. I hesitantly snatched it, then unlocked it. Gazing at the screen in silence, but my hand had curled up to a fist as the resentment I felt two days ago overwhelmed me again. What the hell is he doing here? Gnashing my teeth in annoyance, I sprang to my feet then scooted out of my desk. Alexander also got on his feet, staring at me with whole attention. “Is there a problem?” He asked apprehensively, “Nicholas, he’s here at the reception, and he had requested to see me” I answered, not willing to hide how discontented I’ve become. His face suddenly tensed up, but he was trying to control it.
“Haven’t you talked things out with him?” He asked calmly, I shook her head, “No, I’ve not been able to reach him. Can I go see him for a minute?” I requested, sounding impatient. “Do you want me to come with you?” He asked tenderly, walking up to my figure. I quickly shook my head, “I won’t stay long, I’ll be back shortly” I scrambled my words, and after offering a soft smile to him, I left the office in a hurry. On getting outside the office, I almost smashed Felicia, she was standing before the door. She quickly went back to her seat, looking quite embarrassed. I glanced over at the door then back to her face, “What were you doing just now, Miss Felicia?” My voice was a bit harsh, she rolled her eyeballs then jibed, “What does it look like, Miss Kiara?” I scoffed then went to stand in front of her desk, “You were eavesdropping? Tell me, what if the CEO had caught you himself, what will you do then?” I scowled, and much to my surprise, she jumped to her feet then glowered, “How about we cut past this bullshit, Miss Kiara. Tell me, what’s really going on between you and the CEO? Rumors are going around the office since morning that the CEO had brought a bouquet of flowers for you, is that true?” Her eyes gleamed, yearning for answers.
I cracked up softly, “Now I know what your problem is Miss Felicia, I’ll be right back,” I told her in a light tone then left her desk for the elevator. As I counted my steps away, I could feel her eyes shooting daggers at my back. I just smiled, then got on the elevator. So, the news had already spread like a wildfire. Whoa! Soon, the elevator bell dings, then opened at my desired destination. I got off it and walked into the reception. But to my surprise, the few employees at the reception began to exchange glances at one another. I put up my brows, but promptly, reality whipped me like body blows as I recalled the rumor. I’m the talk of the whole company now, isn’t it great? My lips curved to a gentle smile as I walked up to the receptionist. “Hi Miss Kiara” She greeted in her usual jovial voice, “Hello, please where’s the man waiting for me here?” I asked her politely after I’d darted my eyes around every corner of the reception but could not catch a glimpse of Nicholas. “Oh, Mr. Nicholas, isn’t it?” I nodded, “He said he will be waiting for you in his car,” She said with a smile on her lips, I nodded and proceeded to walk away, but her voice stopped me, “It’s a bit strange Miss Kiara, Mr. Nicholas had always come here to meet the CEO, but all of a sudden, he’s requesting to see you” She uttered to herself, like someone spooning in her thoughts. I twitched my lips, biting down my tongue. What was she trying to imply? I thought in my mind as we both stared at each other in silence. I didn’t say a word, even though I wanted to say something. Furthermore, I peeled my eyes away from hers, then finally left the reception, dialing Nicholas’s line as I walked into the garage.
His butt was resting against his car in the garage where plenty of cars was parking. Upon seeing me approach him, his thin lips curled up in a glossy smile, but that only precipitated my anger. “Love of my life,” He says as he left where he was standing and came close to me. He attempted to pull me for a hug, but I dodged out of the way in time, “What are you doing here?” I asked him, letting my fury eyes burn into his eyes. His smile grew bigger as he stepped forward while I stepped backward, “Answer the goddamn question Nicholas, what the hell are you doing here?” I scowled. He scratched his forehead then began, “I knew you’ll be very mad at me babe, but you’ve got to believe me, I was really occupied with some vital work” He put forward a step again then I bellowed, “Step back you bastard! Don’t even try to come closer because I might just murder you right here in this spot” I threatened, looking so serious. His face grew in complication, “What’s it, Kiara? Have I done something wrong other than this?” He questioned in an extremely low voice, holding a sympathetic look.
“Tell me, why are you explaining this to me, huh? Go tell all this to your wife, I’m not in the right obligation to hear this coming from you” I snarled fiercely, but to my wonder, he burst into a hysterical laugh but ended almost immediately, “Enough of the joke now Kiara, I know you’re mad at me, but what do you mean wife? I’m not married yet and even if I’m getting married anytime soon, no one else will be the bride but you, Kiara” Hearing this coming out of his mouth, my anger erupted as my jaw and fist clenched. “You’re crazy Nicholas, what were you thinking? Tell me, what was your plan? You thought I was never going to find out, huh?” I shrieked, moving closer to him. “Yes, it was true and apparent that I never loved you initially, but my heart was beginning to feel something for you, and I was happy about it. I thought you were different, I thought you loved me but little did I know that it was all a facade” I went on shouting, not minding if people were watching or not.
“Your secret is out, Nicholas. You are married. You reside in Oakland, you’ve got a beautiful wife- Maria” I told him everything and his face gradually darkened as his mouth hung open. He gulped, balls of sweat had broken out on his forehead. “How…” He began, “How did… ” I chipped in, “How I found out is absolutely none of your business. All I want now is nothing but for you to be far away from me, stay away from me Nicholas, as far away as possible,” I turned away but stopped then faced him again, “Take good care of your father, your wife doesn’t seem to be nice to him” His jaw dropped open again, looking so stunned. With one last glance, I turned around and finally left the garage, leaving him in bewilderment.
Without sparing anyone a glance, I arrived at the office but saw Alexander looking down from the French windows with his back to me and his two hands tugged in his trouser pocket. “I’m sorry for leaving my table when it’s not break period, sir” I apologized, walking completely into the office. “I want to believe he’ll never come looking for you again,” He says, still not turning around. “I hope so, but I already warned him to never come close again” I answered mildly, interlacing my fingers. He remained silent as if he had acquiesced to it, “Do you think I’ve done wrong by making you know the truth?” He asked tentatively then a smile covered up my lips, “Of course not sir, in fact, I’m truly grateful, and I think I’m indebted to you” I responded, appreciatively.
He then spun around, looking in my direction. His face was not smiling neither was it tough. He kept his straight face as his longer fingers unbuttoned his suit jacket while he ambled to where I was standing. “Let’s go home, the day is over” He announced, walking to my desk to carry my shoulder bag.
My eyes widened, “What do you mean, Alexander? The day just begun, and I haven’t even done anything on my desk yet” I reminded him, but he was just staring at me while he fixed my bag to his arm. Unexpectedly, he squatted then carried me up in his arms. My eyes widened the more, “What are you doing, Alex? This is an office, what are you doing? Where are we going?” I grumbled softly in his arms, trying to wriggle free. “Don’t move, be obedient” He warned simply, a mischievous smirk playing around his lips. Oh no, this is just going to amplify the wildfire. I thought in my mind, but the joy in my heart knew no bound, I feel so fulfilled. While he struggled to twist the door handle, I asked him again, “Are you sure you are really going to carry me like this?” He didn’t say a word as he managed to open the door and stepped out, with me in his arms. Gosh, now I’m feeling so shy.
