Olive POV
I couldn’t control the tears that kept pouring out of my eyes. “I told you to stop crying, Olive,” Granny repeated. “Alexander is my grandson, and he can never say no to me”
“He’s getting married to you and that’s final”
“No, granny,” I spoke up in a cracked voice.
I sniffed my running nose and slowly wiped my tears with my hand.
“I prefer not to get married to Alexander any longer,” I choked out.
“You can’t possibly mean that, Olive”
“Fine, I understand how hurtful Alexander words were, but you shouldn’t take those words of his to heart”
I slowly rose to my feet.
“I’ll take the morning flight tomorrow”
“Thanks for everything, granny” I said with a sense of gratitude, but she only watches me without saying a word.
“Goodnight, granny” I said, and with that, I took the stairs to the guest room.
********
The next morning
I climbed down the stairs one after the other with my small travel bag in my hand.
My dream has been shattered, so I have no business here anymore. The only dream I really pray to come true is to finally end up with Alexander. Heaven knows I’ve always loved and cherished him since the first day we met at California, although, I wouldn’t say I like the way he’d reacted when I’d bumped into him that day but even with that, he managed to took my heart away with his hard look, and I always believed he has this soft demeanor once I get close to him.
I successfully became his friend during his short vacation then, but I wanted more, all I wanted is Alexander for myself. But it’s so bad, he doesn’t even look at me the way I look at him every minute.
I climbed down the last stair and released a rueful sigh.
I think it’s for the best, I just hope I would be able to love someone else the way I’ve loved Alexander.
“You’re really leaving?” I heard Granny’s voice at my back.
I turned my head and saw her climbing down the stairs, looking depressed.
“Yes granny”
“I hope you slept well?” I asked her, jovially.
She got to where I was standing and rolled her eyes.
“Are you really leaving me?”
“I promise I’m going to talk, Alexander….
The creaked sound of the entrance door interrupted granny and we both took our eyes to its direction to saw Alexander sneaking in.
“And where on earth are you coming from, young man?” He froze instantly, upon hearing Granny’s cold voice.
His eyes dilated in surprise as he watches from my face to Granny’s face.
“Have you lost your tongue?!” Granny yelled.
He took his eyes to the floor and gulped down.
“I was coming from Mack’s place,” He replied, lowly.
“And since when did you start passing the night at Mack’s place?” Granny further asked, gruffly.
“You walked out on me last night, Alexander, just because I was telling you what I want?”
“This is about what I want also, granny, don’t you care about my happiness anymore?” Alexander asked in a sad tone, taking a few steps closer.
“I care about you and that’s why I want you to get married to Olive, she’s the only right woman for you” Granny strongly said, and I just looked down at my feet, avoiding Alex’s gaze.
“No granny, Olive can never be the right woman” I looked up at him in a swift.
“I only see Olive as a sister and…”
“Just shut it already!” Granny scolded.
“Why do you keep saying you only see her as a sister?”
“Tell me, have I ever told you before that you had a sister somewhere?”
Alexander breathes out heavily and made a facepalm.
“Answer me!”
He turned to me and opened his mouth to talk.
“It’s okay Alexander, I’m so sorry for the inconvenience” I say.
“I’m leaving, take good care of yourself and granny,” I said with a wry smile.
“You’re not leaving, Olive” Granny said adamantly, obstructing my way.
I smiled.
“Come on granny…”
“You come on Olive, get your luggage inside because you’re not leaving”
Alex’s gaze and I locked for a while, he shook his head sideways before walking away.
“Alexander!” Granny shouted and began to follow him.
I smiled at their back. They were lovely.
“Don’t you dare leave where you’re standing, Olive!” Granny warned, but I just chuckled softly to myself.
When I was sure she was out of sight, I quickly rushed out of the house with my bag.
“I’m sorry granny, and I will miss you so much” I mumbled as a tear dropped.
Amelia POV
It was Saturday morning…
I was humming to one of Cinderella’s songs while washing Clare’s wardrobe. Yes, it was her wardrobe, and I still found it hard to believe one person owns all these clothes lying here.
“Hey, wash these too,” Clare ordered as she dumped another set of clothes on the pile of clothes on the floor.
I breathe out softly and continued washing, watching her back as she walked back into the building.
I just detest this girl with everything.
Why can’t she be like her twin sister for once in her life?
Callie has done her laundry yesterday immediately she returned from school, but Clare, she just loves adding to my problem in this house, and she’s another reason I hate weekends, Saturdays especially.
I was still fuming inwardly when I heard her footsteps approaching again. I quickly looked up and saw another clothes in her hands.
Christ!
She got to me and threw the clothes carelessly again, and I couldn’t help the hiss that escaped my mouth.
“What did you just do?” She asked, surprised.
“I just hissed,” I replied bluntly, not sparing her a look.
“You just hissed at me, and you still have the mouth to say it?” She said in total disbelief.
I ignored her, not saying a word to her.
“You’ve forgotten some manners, huh!” She seethed, and the next that happened really took me aback.
She sent a slap to my right cheek, I blinked my eyes twice while staring at her in shock.
“Yes, that’s a reminder of your place in this house, you’ve absolutely no right to…” She was saying, but I stood up and cut her short with a resounding slap across her cheek.
“The next time you lay your fingers on me, I’ll make sure I deal with you terribly” I threatened seriously, but she only watched me in awe.
“Amelia, you slapped me?” She asked with popped up eyes.
“Yes Clare, and I’ll do it over and over again if you don’t get your silly self out of my sight right now,” I told her sharply and her eyes grew wider in surprise.
She gulped.
“You’ll regret this, I promise”
“Let mom returns” She said tearfully and ran into the house.
“Let mom returns” I mimicked her voice before laughing out loud.
But you’ll surely regret this, Amelia… My subconscious mind reminded and I just scoffed.
I don’t care, I’m glad I could put that thing in her place.
Idiot.
