Chapter 65

Benjamin woke up later than usual. When he woke up, he checked his time and by the time he realised what time it is, he knew something was wrong somewhere. He stood up and went to the toilet. He brushed his mouth and washed his face. He jumped out of the toilet and put on a new shirt. He hurriedly left his room and went to Alpha Jax’s office. He knocked but he did not hear a reply. He would have opened the door to check what’s going on, but Alpha Jax already collected the key from him.
“You are no longer worthy of my trust,” Alpha Jax said before he extended his hand for his key. Benjamin returned it without questioning him.
“You should know he is not around. His sister has been here and she did not meet him,” a sex slave passed by him and said. Benjamin smiled. She did the favour to get to be with Alpha past the time allocated for her. That’s the only the reason any one of the sex slaves would want to help him.
He returned to his room. He sat down and immediately, he felt a cold sensation run through his spine. He could feel the presence of someone around him. He checked around but there was no one.
“What is this?” He said. He called on his wolf. Both of them were ready to change if they sight anyone.
“Benjamin!” He hear his name go through his head. A loud voice. Loud enough that he could not discern the location it came from.
“Who are you?”
“Dear Benjamin,” the mention of his name rang through his head again. He ordered his wolf to stand down. The name sounds familiar. He does not believe it is the voice of who he thinks it is.
“Dear Benjie,” the voice came again.
“Shane? Shane Moss?” He whispered as he sat on his bed. He remembered Shane. The moment he discovered whose voice it was, the voice stopped coming. Benjamin sat down. He stopped feeling the presence of someone being around too. Everything went back to normal.
“Oh Shane! What did you get yourself into? How did you do this?” Benjamin whispered. He sighed.
Benjamin still thinks of Shane, but it’s not in an overwhelming matter. He thinks of Shane the way he thinks of fate or his past. Something that is his but could never have. And as much people have always advised against dwelling on our past, Benjamin ignored deep thought of Shane.
Benjamin remembers how Shane was pinned down the day he was about leaving. Apart from being compelled by the Alpha to stop moving, some other wolves who serve the Alpha had to hold him back. These kinds of memories about him made him ignore the idea of ever sorting out Shane. He could not leave without his Alpha’s permission. And if he was to go through the woods. Alpha Jax’s men who guard there would catch him and return him straight away.
“I do miss you too Shane,” Benjamin whispered. “But you are a past I have to let go. We can never be together anymore,”
“Hey!” He called his wolf.
“I do not have anything to say regarding him. I already told you to forget him did I not?” His wolf replied.
“But you know it’s not that easy,” Benjamin cried.
“It is. If you focus on reality. You can not be with him,” his wolf said. Benjamin walked towards his glass. He looked at himself. He cursed himself for being a weak fellow.
“If ever I should come into this world again, I shall come as a wolf with better fortune,” Benjamin swore.
The remembrance of Shane made him want to work harder towards making Ava fall in love with him. He needs to act fast and discover whatever it is that is between them. Even if it happens that Ava and Alpha Jax does not have anything between them, Ava has the qualities of what he would want in a partner. He can still ignore the fact that she is a sex slave to the Alpha. After all,, that’s what he is too.
“Now you are just getting what I am saying. Live in reality and forget what you want. Make do with what you can have. Slowly steal away from Alpha Jax this woman that seem so important to him. Let him know he cannot have it all. Do you understand?” His wolf advised him. Benjamin nodded.
Benjamin walked out of his room. He needed to see Ava. And that’s because he needed to set his goals right. To forget about this momentary sadness he has because he remembers Shane. Shane is a memory to let go. He needs to face the now. And recently, the only thing to help him forget such emotion is the presence of Ava. He knocked on her door. He saw her smile and content.
“Good morning,” he greeted.
“Morning Benjamin!” She dragged him in immediately and hugged him. He hugged her back. But within a few seconds, he released her.
“You seem so excited this morning! What is it?” Benjamin asked her. He looked around her room to see if there was anything strange.
“Well, there is nothing in particular. I am just glad you are here. I missed you,” she said.
“Uh! You saw me last night right? I bet I am the last wolf you saw before going to bed!” He said.
“No! Of course not. I passed the corridor and I saw lots of gossip mongers,” she replied him.
“Like I said, I am the last wolf you saw. Others were gossip mongers,” he smiled. Ava left him and walked to her bed. Benjamin picked out the iron chair in her room. He sat on it.
“Guess who has been here this morning!”
“Alpha Jax?”
“Yuck!” Ava retched
“Yuck? Your Alpha?”
“Come on! We both know he can’t come here!” Ava said. Benjamin smiled. Not at what she said but at the tone with which she said. And there is only one person who he knows to always add “come on!” to his sentence whenever he wants to convince anyone. Shane.
“But who was it?”
“Lily. She just got back from the goddess’s shrine,” Ava said.
“Is that why you are happy?”
“Yes!” Ava answered. Benjamin sighed and nodded his head.
“She is a good friend,”
“Oh! A friend?”
“Yes! What else will she be?” Ava asked and walked towards her toilet.
Benjamin liked the way he felt jealous about Lily coming to Ava. But he feels good around her. Being with her is way better than having to deal with the sadness that comes with remembering Shane.
