“Even now, you are still bluffing. You are a poor man. A surprise?”
Miranda held her arms across her chest and said, “Elise, I’m the PR department manager of the Robin-Sophia Group, so I must attend the ceremony. I have to go now. After the event ends, I’ll call the police.”
Then she turned away.
Elise lost her balance, almost falling to the ground. She had decided to accept Robin, but she didn’t expect he had done such an awful thing.
“Are we still going to the ceremony, Elise?” Rodney signed and asked her.
“Sure.”
Elise gritted her teeth, looking determined. No matter what, she must go and would not hide.
When they left the house, Elise picked up the black card. Staring at the words “Robin-Sophia Group VIP” on the card, she had an indescribable feeling.
“You managed to get a card for me, but why did you betray me?”
Elise pinched the card tightly.
Only people holding a VIP card would be allowed to attend the ceremony. Elise couldn’t have one, so she decided to follow her grandfather to enter the hall.
When Elise arrived at the entrance of the Robin-Sophia Group, Robin looked down at her from upstairs.
“Elise? You arrived so early today.”
David happened to arrive. Walking to Elise, he mocked, “Elise, don’t you know you cannot enter without a VIP card? Grandpa can’t make it, so I have the card.”
David pulled out a card and waved it to Elise triumphantly. In Stillwater, one company was given one VIP card. He was the current president of Lands Corporation, so Elise must bet him if she wanted to enter.
“David, we are family, aren’t we? We can enter with you together,” Karen said to him after seeing the security guards at the entrance.
“I can do it, but I want Elise to beg me.”
David looked at Elise. Everyone in Stillwater knew Elise was a proud woman. Usually, she would never beg a person. David wanted to have an exciting experience, though.
“I also have a VIP card.”
Elise pulled out the VIP card from Robin expressionlessly.
“This is from Robin Bailey. Is it real?” Rodney asked.
“Haha… Seriously? From Robin Bailey? How hilarious! Don’t you know who Robin Bailey is? Each company has received only one VIP card. How could he manage to get one? It must be fake.”
David was shocked. However, Robin’s name amused him.
“Let me show you what a real VIP car is like.”
David waved his card, put in on the machine, and arched his brow.
However, the next second, a robotic voice sounded, “Invalid card.”
“What?”
David gaped.
“Something wrong… with my card? It couldn’t be…”
David checked his card inconceivably, taking a closer look.
Of course, he didn’t know Robin had made his card invalid.
Suddenly, a lobby manager walked to Elise and asked, “Excuse me, ma’am. May I check your VIP card?”
“Sure.”
Elise passed the card to him, although she didn’t know what was happening.
“Haha… Your card is also invalid. The lobby manager came out in person. Gee! It must be fake!” David yelled, pointing at Elise.
However, after checking the card, the lobby manager bowed at Elise. “Elise, this is the Premium VIP card of the Robin-Sophia Group. You don’t need to swipe in. Please follow me.”
“What?”
All people on the scene were shocked, looking at the VIP card.
It was from Robin, the homeless man. However, it was a Premium VIP card.
“Excuse me, mister. There must be a misunderstanding. I knew who gave this card to her. He was a poor man. How could he have the Premium VIP card? They must have stolen it,” David immediately reminded the manager.
“Sorry, mister, but there’s only one Premium VIP card in this world. It belongs to our chairman of the board.”
The lobby manager’s answer surprised others again.
‘The chairman of the board? Robin Bailey? Impossible!’
No one believed their guesses.
“Please follow me.”
The lobby manager raised his hand to hint at Elise and her parents to enter the lobby.
When they followed the manager, David wanted to go with them, but the security guards stopped him. One said, “Mr. Bailey, I could tell you were not with them.”
“Damn it! It must be Miranda Levis. She stole the Premium VIP card from the Robin-Sophia Group’s chairman of the board and gave it to Elise. It must be like that.”
Gritting his teeth, David believed his guess.
However, Elise looked baffled when following the lobby manager to enter, wondering why Robin’s VIP card had become the Premium VIP card belonging to the Robin-Sophia Group’s chairman of the board’s card.
After entering the hall, the ceremony started soon. Jim was the host in person. Soon, the most critical activity started. All the attendees would present their gifts, and the business partner of the Robin-Sophia Group’s first project would be announced.
Everyone became excited.
David followed Reginald to enter the hall. Walking to Elise, David sneered, “Elise, thought you’d gained the upper hand because of Miranda Levis? You know what? Lands Corporation and Lucas Corporation have a cooperation agreement, but it’s none of your business. You’ll never gain the project and should be ready to reap the consequences.”
“I knew you two had colluded,” Elise darted at the two men in disgust, slightly frustrated.
After Jim introduced the rules, Miranda walked onstage and announced, “Ladies and gentlemen, our chairman of the board will pick up his favorite gift in person later.” She was the manager of the PR department, so she participated in hosting the ceremony.
“What have you prepared, Elise?” Rodney and Karen looked at Elise.
“I didn’t bring anything except a bottle of rum that Robin Bailey put in my handbag.”
Elise pulled out the bottle of rum from her bag. When she sat down and wanted to fix her makeup, she found only a small bottle of Cruzan 9 Spiced Rum in her handbag.
Mixed feelings surged in her heart.
“Rum? Robin Bailey did it? Is he nuts?”
Elise’s parents gaped at her. Then they cursed Robin for being ungrateful and making trouble at such a critical moment.
“Oh my goodness! Rum? Did Robin Bailey put it in? What was in his mind? Did he want to disgrace you in public? I thought he had become somebody. It turns out he’s still the loser,” David laughed loudly again after hearing their conversation. His voice was full of irony.
Earlier, he failed to enter the hall as his VIP card had become invalid. Finally, after Reginald arrived, he followed Reginald to enter. The conversation among Elise and her parents delighted him greatly.
He believed that Elise had already given up.
“Robin Bailey…”
Elise held the bottle of rum with mixed feelings.
