Chapter 19: A Misunderstanding

“How arrogant!”
Bob seethed with rage. He snapped at the other three men, “Go get him together. You all have daggers. Make it quick. He’s carrying that woman and cannot react.”
After all, he used to kill people, so he was still rational.
If it were an ordinary man carrying a hostage, he wouldn’t win against the four desperadoes at all. Unfortunately, they encountered Robin.
“You’ve overestimated yourself,” Robin remarked.
Then he swept his leg at them. Before they reacted, all of them smashed onto the ground.
“Argh!”
All of the spat blood. They wanted to get up and run away but couldn’t, almost dying.
“Damn you!” Bob cursed.
Gritting his teeth, he turned away.
Anyway, he could always return to avenge.
Unfortunately, a stone was tossed toward the back of his head. With a loud bang, he also fell to the ground and fainted.
“Scumbags!”
Seeing all of them faint, Robin turned away.
However, seeing Miranda in his arms, he was worried. “Miranda Levis, where should I take you to?”
He had no idea where she stayed.
He wanted to call Elise to ask her, but she had probably already fallen asleep and would never be woken up.
“Forget it.”
Robin looked ahead and saw a hotel. Then he entered. “Excuse me, miss. A single bedroom, please.”
A while later, Robin carried Miranda into the room. However, she suddenly threw up, the vomitus covered her body, and she still hadn’t woken up.
“Eww… Why did you throw up earlier?”
Robin felt an intense migraine. He called in a hotel attendant, gave her 100 bucks, and said, “My friend is drunk. Please send her clothes for laundry.”
“Sure, mister,” the hotel attendant agreed and took the money.
After arranging everything, Robin left the hotel and returned to Houry’s Villa. When he entered the bedroom, Leslie ran to hold his legs. “Mom is talking in sleep, Dad.”
“Talking in sleep?”
Robin walked to the bed.
“The Robin-Sophia Group’s project… I… must get it. I must… It’s my only… chance…” Elise murmured while sleeping.
Robin roughly understood what she was talking about. He bent over and whispered in her ear, “Don’t worry, Honey. I’ll help you. You’ll get the project tomorrow for sure. By the way, I haven’t told you. Your husband is a national hero, a well-known general. Good night, Honey.”
Then he tucked Elise into the quilt.
This time Elise loosened her frown as if she had just had a weird good dream.
When Robin went to bed, he glanced at Elise and muttered, “I’ll give you a surprise tomorrow.”
The following day.
Elise got up and rubbed her head. Looking around, she only found Robin. “Honey, it’s the Robin-Sophia Group’s opening ceremony today,” he reminded her.
“Elise, get ready. We’ll leave soon,” Karen reminded Elise from upstairs.
In the finance circle of Stillwater, the Robin-Sophia Group’s opening ceremony was the most critical event because it was an enterprise from the capital.
“I must face the fact. Sooner or later.”
Elise heaved a sigh. She had gotten ready the previous night, so she got off the bed. Robin followed her out of the room. Karen and Rodney were waiting in the living room.
“I wonder who can win the Robin-Sophia’s project today,” Rodney signed while reading the newspaper.
Elise paled. Afraid her father would be worried, she didn’t tell him about her bet with Gordon. If she won, she could become the chairwoman of the board; if she failed, her properties would be taken away, and she and her family would be kicked out of the Houry family.
Suddenly, a woman rushed to the house. Once she entered the living room, she pointed at Robin and snapped, “Robin Bailey, you beast! You scumbag!”
“Miranda?”
All people in the living room looked at the tearful woman and recognized she was Miranda.
“Why are you cursing me?” Robin frowned.
Elise looked at Miranda in confusion as well.
“Curing you? Bastard! I’m gonna expose your true color today. Elise, you thought he had a good personality and wanted to forgive him and stay with him forever. You were wrong about him. Last night, Robin left your house after sending you home, didn’t he?” Miranda asked Elise, her eyes reddened.
“Yes, he did.” Elise nodded after hesitating.
The previous night, after sending her home, Robin told her he needed to go out for a moment. However, she didn’t know when he had returned.
“You know what, Elise? This jerk called several men to knock me out. Then they sent me to the hotel. When I woke up, I was naked without any clothes.”
Miranda burst into tears and added, “He thought I was faint, so I didn’t know he was one of them. Before I fainted, I struggled and recognized his face. I swear I didn’t mistake him.”
“What?” Elise scowled at Robin immediately.
“Mr. and Mrs. Houry, this jerk made a bet with Gordon Houry on your behalf. If you can win the Robin-Sophia’s project, Elise will return to be the chairwoman of the board. However, if not, the 10% of the company shares and all your properties will be taken back. You’ll also be kicked out of the Houry family.”
“The possibility for you to get the project is zero,” Miranda told Elise’s parents.
‘Be kicked out of the Houry family?’
The words were like a bombshell, suffocating Rodney. He asked Robin, “Did she tell the truth? Did you bet on it for real?”
“Yes, I did.”
Robin never denied what he had said. However, he knew Miranda had misunderstood something.
He explained, “Last night…”
“Do you want to retort, Robin Bailey?”
Elise walked to him, tears streaming down her cheeks. “Miranda grew up with me since childhood. We’re besties. I know her well. She would never joke with such a matter.”
“You know what, Robin Bailey? I thought you had a good personality, so Leslie and I could rely on you. After having dinner with Miranda, I told her I would be a good wife. However, you are such a scumbag! You dumped Leslie and me back then. Now you harassed my bestie. Bastard! Why did you hurt me repeatedly?”
She raised her hand and slapped Robin across his face. Then she roared hysterically, “You disappointed me, Robin Bailey! I was so wrong about you.”
“Pak!”
Robin didn’t dodge her hit.
“I trusted you back then and thought you would change, so I let you move in and had a six-month agreement with you. I was so stupid!”
Rodney pointed at Robin, regret filling his eyes.
“Get out of here, scumbag!” Miranda snapped to Robin, her eyes full of disgust.
However, Robin ignored her. Looking at Elise, he felt a sharp pang in his heart. When he walked up to her, she flinched. “Leave!”
Robin heaved a sigh, pulled out a black card, and put it on the desk. With mixed feelings, he said, “Don’t cry, Honey. I didn’t do it. You’ll go to the Robin-Sophia Group today. Take this car with you. You can go anywhere without any trouble. Since you don’t want to see me again, I should leave now.”
“In fact, I want to give you a surprise today.”
