“Oh my God! That was close,” Trevor heaves a sigh of relief as soon as he’s out of sight. He didn’t know that he would flare up like that, he wouldn’t have brought that up in the first place if he had known.
Letting out a brief sigh, he brings his phone out of his pocket, and scrolls through it for some seconds, before he finally dials a number.
“Hello, Sir,” A masculine voice sounds from the other end as soon as the call stops ringing.
“Brian… Send my schedule for next week to my mail. Also, cancel my appointment with Mega empire. I have some things to attend to,” He says on the phone.
“Alright, Sir. I’ll do that right away,” the voice sounds from the other end before he drops the call. Dropping his phone beside him on the couch, he stares into space as one question keeps ringing in his mind. Who was that girl?
Nadia POV
I almost screamed my lungs out when I got the alert, and I checked my phone for more than ten times to be sure that I’m not dreaming. I thought he was only going to send money that’ll at least take care of our upkeep, but what I am seeing on my phone makes me have a second thoughts. The money he sent is enough to fix my sister’s eyes and still remain some to take care of our upkeep.
“Come on, Olie, let’s go get you dressed. I’m taking you somewhere,” I help her up to her feet, while she stares into space in confusion. I’m sure she would squint her eyes if she can see me. Just hang in there, Olie, you’ll be able to use your eyes soon, after the surgery is done.
“Where are we going, Nadia?” Still wearing that confused look, she asks me curiously, but there’s no way I’m going to tell her where we are going. It’s a surprise, so I want her to find out about it when we get there.
“Come on, let’s get you dressed, Olie. You’ll know when we get there. But for now, let’s go get you dressed,” I lead her to the small stool in our room and sit her on it. Since she already had her bath before I went out early today, I just brush her hair for her and apply a little makeup on her face. I help her pack her hair in a ponytail style as always, before going to get her clothes.
After getting her dressed, we leave for the hospital afterward. It’s already getting late, and I was supposed to leave it till tomorrow, but my excitement and anxiousness to see my sister have her sight back again won’t just let me be patient enough to wait till tomorrow.
“You’re scaring me, Nadia. You know I can’t see. Where are we going? Are we packing out of the house?” She asks worriedly for the umpteenth time as she stares into space, batting her eyelashes almost every second.
“Ok, fine. We’re going to the hospital,” I can’t take her constant questions anymore. I know that I agreed to make it a surprise, but not when she’s already getting worked up about this. I don’t want her to think that we have been thrown out of the house by the landlord.
“Are you sick? What happened to you? Did you get hurt when you went out?” She asks worriedly, searching for my face with her hands, and once she locates it, she keeps examining it with her hands, as she stares into space.
“Come on, Olie. I’m not sick, just wait let’s get there first, ok?” I smile at her, holding her hand, and she nods her head slowly, still having a worried expression on her face.
After what seem like forever, the cab finally stop in front of the hospital and we both alighted from the cab…
Author POV
Stepping out of the car, she helps Olie out and pays the cabby. Turning to face Olie, she takes her walking stick from her, and before she can comprehend what’s happening, Nadia carries her on her back, before heading to the hospital entrance door.
“That’s why I have a walking stick, Nadia. You didn’t have to carry me, you know?” She protests.
“Can you just relax, Olie? Stop stressing yourself. I’m not complaining, am I?” She scoffs and rolls her eyes, as she finally stops in front of the entrance door, and pushes the door open, striding in afterward.
Stepping into the lobby with just a few people and nurses walking around, getting busy with one thing or the other, she leads Olie to sit on the settee in the lobby.
“Wait here for me. I’ll be back now,” She says to her after she pinches her cheek playfully.
“Where are you going?” Olie asks again, looking all worried.
“You ask too many questions. I’ll be back,” And with that, Nadia stands up to her feet and strides away.
She walks over to the receptionist, who directs her to the doctor’s office. Walking down the hallway that leads to the doctor’s office, she finally make her way in after she placed a knock on the door and the doctor’s voice ushered her in.
Stepping into the doctor’s office, she meets him discussing with a young lady in her early thirties.
“Oh, miss Brandon. One minute, please,” He says to her pleadingly and she nods her head.
“Alright, doc,” She nods her head and turns to go out.
“You don’t need to go. Just sit over there. I’ll soon be done with her, and get to you,” He says to her, and she walks over to sit on the sofa in the office.
A few minutes later, the woman finally walks out of the doctor’s office, and he finally turns his attention to Nadia.
“Alright miss Brandon. I’m sorry for the delay,” He apologizes, and she nods her head politely.
“So, miss Brandon, you asked to see me,” He finally opens up the conversation, wearing a questioning look on his face.
“Yeah, I’m ready for my sister’s surgery now, so when can we do it?” She drops the shocking news, and he pulls a puzzled look, trying to process what she just said. Of course, he heard her correctly, but it’s just hard to believe, knowing that the money for the surgery is kind of huge and she couldn’t have raised the money herself, right? The last time he remembered, she was broken the last time she went to the hospital with her sister which was just around one week ago.
“Excuse me?” She calls his attention, waving her hand to his face, and bringing him back to reality.
“Oh sorry! Sure… I’ll call the surgeon at your convenient time. I mean, when the payment is done,” He stress his reply.
“Yeah, I know. I’ll forward the bill to the hospital account. I still have it,” She replies to him, and he nods his head.
“I’ll call the surgeon, right away,” He further says.
“Alright, the surgeon will be here first thing tomorrow morning. I guess he’s less busy now, so nothing will stop him from doing the surgery. I guess you two should pass the night here, then the surgery can kick off tomorrow,” The doctor advises, and she nods her head.
“Thank you,” After making the transaction, she went back to the lobby to meet Olie.
She’s finally gonna see again…
