Samantha’s Pov
I woke up feeling much better. It seemed like the drugs the doctor had given to the both of us contained some type of sedatives because it had me sleeping like a log of wood.
The other maids were all back from their day off and I wondered what was currently happening to Miss. Melissa and Lauren.
“It feels so cool to call her by her name m” Cara shrieked and I chuckled.
I sat up on my bed and wondered if we were going to be working today or if Alpha Kayden would give me and Cassie the day off.
“What the heck are you even thinking about? He definitely would not let the both of you work today.” Cara replied and it made sense, after all, we were badly injured and brutalised.
I laid back on my bed and my finger grazed my lips. I giggled softly remembering the kiss yesterday.
I still kind of wondered what the kiss meant. Was it just a mistake? An overflow of emotions? Or it was simply real?
Kayden’s POV.
She stood in front of me, with her back facing me, her dark hair flowed to her waist, she was dressed up in a white knee-length gown that made even her back view look so pretty.
“Mantha,” I called, my voice softer than usual.
Immediately I called her name, she broke into sobs.
“Wh… What’s wrong?” I asked, walking up to her.
I turned her to me and it was not in any way Mantha, it was Diane.
“Diane?” My voice trembled.
“You do not love me anymore… You do not even recognize me anymore.” she sobbed harder and I quickly held onto her hand.
“That’s not true Diane, I love you, I have always loved you,” I said to her in a futile attempt to make her believe me.
“That’s not true anymore Kayden! You even mentioned her name.” Diane wept more.
“No… I… I just lost my mind for a while.” I replied her.
“Then let me take Mantha away with me, let me take her away from your life, away from you so you can keep on loving me, only me,” she said to me, her hands on my cheeks but my eyes fell to the floor.
I could not just grant that wish.
“You see? You no longer love me!” She concluded, removing her hands from my face.
“No, that’s not it Diane… But…. but…”
“There are no buts, you simply do not love me anymore so I am going to leave Kayden. I will never appear in your life again, hold onto Mantha then,” she replied me, her eyes teary.
“That’s not the issue! Diane! I… I love you!”
“Then give up Mantha!”
“I can’t Diane but I still do love you,” I said, trying to convince her to at least stay with me.
“No, I can no longer stay here with you,” she replied and with those words, her body began fading.
“Diane! Don’t leave me here yet again! Don’t leave me!” I said, grabbing her hands quickly in an attempt to stop her from fading away but it was useless.
I watched her fade away totally, no sign of her left.
“Diane!! No!!!” I screamed.
*********************
I woke up from the dream, sweating profusely. I was breathing heavily too. I ran a hand through my hair and opened my drawer, picking the picture of Diane out.
I kissed the picture and dropped it back in the drawer, I threw my head backwards and shook my head.
I still did not understand why I had this type of dream about Diane, she was never the type that would demand Mantha, the dream was weird, me not giving up Mantha to Diane was even weirder.
“And now is the moment you tell yourself that dreams are stupid, right?” Jay asked, knowing very well that was my watchword whenever I had a confusing dream.
“You know me too well,” I replied him, getting off the bed.
I took a look at myself in the mirror and carefully touched my face, the exact spot Diane had touched in my dream.
I closed my eyes, opened it and brushed off the thoughts of the dream.
I removed my clothes, tied a towel around me and went into the bathroom to have a cooling bath.
After the bath, I dressed up and went downstairs for breakfast. I had earlier on cleared my schedule for the week thinking I would be on a vacation but turns out I am not going to be on vacation so I might just get some things to do this week but then not today.
I was kind of down emotionally and mentally.
“Good morning mum.” I greeted and Dad looked over at me.
“Good morning Dad,” I said to him also, taking my seat.
As soon as I took my seat, I scented Lauren.
“Good morning all.” she greeted in a very low voice.
“Trying to joke with me? Why are you still here?!” I asked, banging the table with my fist.
“Kayden… It was late last night, I could not send her out in the night.” mum replied.
“I do not care mum, I want her out this instant or I might get her killed this time around,” I growled.
“Young man, you have your seat,” Dad said but I wasn’t listening to him.
“I… It’s not what you think Kayden, Lauren has explained everything to us.” mum said.
“Explained lies?! I want to hear no more! I want her out!” I yelled.
“Kayden! You do not yell back at me or your mother! ” Father stated.
“And you also do not try to get me pissed off!” I yelled, completely annoyed and angry at the moment.
“Lauren saved Mantha when the other maids were attacking her, Mantha tried to climb the orange tree, she fell so Lauren tried to save her again!” Mum tried explaining.
“You would never truly know who Lauren is!”
“Kayden! You have no idea how to take care of a woman!” Father yelled at me.
“If you have an idea, you would know better than treating Lauren, a girl that has always been by your side that way! You would be good to her!” Father yelled again.
“If Lauren is the woman I need to take care of then I would rather take care of dogs than take care of her father!”
“Have you lost your senses because of that stupid silly maid?!” Father yelled out.
“You’d better get yourself your mate! And stop being totally useless!” Father yelled at me and it was the peak of it.
I hated that word! I hated being called useless.
I banged the table one more time and walked away, storming off to the maid’s quarters. Mantha was on her bed, sleeping but I yanked her off the bed in one swift movement and took her back to the dining room without even giving her a chance to protest.
It was all too fast.
I carried her off me and dropped her beside me once I was in the dining room. I didn’t know why I was doing this, I seemed to have been consumed by something.
“From now on, Mantha is now my personal maid, no one, no matter the rank or status is allowed to order her around”
