Kayden’s POV
The car stopped at the airport and I alighted. I stared back at the road and pressed my lips into a thin line.
I could only wonder what Lauren might be doing currently. Maybe she is bullying Mantha or maybe nothing is happening.
“Son, let’s go.” mum said, grabbing my arm and we both proceeded into the airport, along with Dad and Granny.
I picked out my phone to at least call Mantha but then I halted. Why should I call on a maid to check on her? I buried the phone back into my pockets and looked forward.
“You are going to call her because she is mysterious?” Jay asked.
“Jay, you very well see that I have dropped my phone, I am not going to call Mantha,” I replied to him.
“Why don’t you want to call her? What if she is in danger?” Jay asked and I groaned.
“Are you trying to get me to call her or not?”
“That’s for you to decide.” he chuckled.
“Just let me be Jay.” I groaned and turned off my phone since we would be getting on.
Samantha’s POV
It was Miss. Lauren, her voice was loud enough, loud enough to go over the yelling of the mob against me.
The mob stopped immediately and the way parted as Miss. Lauren walked up to me and Cassie. She raised me and wiped the sticky eggs off my face.
“Did I ask you all to do this?!” She yelled at the mob that had now become quiet.
“It seems like you all are forgetting that this is the mansion of the Alpha of alphas? You think you can just act in any way you like because Alpha Kayden is not around?” She asked and I and Cassie looked at each other in bewilderment.
“She might have been wrong to steal but still yet you cannot do this to her, you will be appropriately punished for doing this in this Mansion,” she said and walked away.
The other maids who had been throwing things at me all the while turned and walked away while murmuring and mumbling words to themselves.
I and Cassie stared at each other, our eyes were heavy with tears, we gave each other a comforting smile.
“Let’s go and wash up,” Cassie said she was always the one who kind of got over things quickly.
“Right, we should not give them the pleasure of seeing our faces this ugly,” I replied to her with a faux smile.
“Absolutely.”
We both got up and picked new dresses after which we headed to the bathroom.
I locked myself up in the bathroom and burst into fresh tears. All my life, I have always been unfortunate, when I was with the slave masters, I was hated by everyone except Granny and for me, Granny too was hated by everyone because she was friends with me and the same is happening with Cassie, I wish I was stronger and better, I wish I could have friends that would share my happiness and not always my sorrow and misfortune.
I paused crying when I heard silent sobs from Cassie’s bathroom, she was just pretending to be fine, we were both doing the same. It did hurt a lot to be called a thief and stoned with different types of things.
“We would… We would come over this.”Cara said to me and I was glad she was here.
“I hope so Cara, I do hope so.”
“It’s for a week, this is just the first day and so much has happened but we can hold it back for days more, we can,” Cara said to me and I gulped down, gulping down the lump of tears that was in my throat.
“Yes, we can. I don’t know why I am being like this, I overcame slavery, right? I can do this too.” I said to myself and caressed the mark on my neck.
I turned on the shower and the cold water did a lot of comforting for me, it seemed to be an escape route out of my misery but as soon as I turned it off, I was back into that misery.
I tied a towel around my chest and dressed up in the blank plain gown that I had with me.
I stepped out and Cassie too stepped out in a yellow dress, she had spent a long time in the bathroom just like me today, perhaps like me trying to wash away the sadness.
We both flashed each other a smile and I held her hands.
“Let’s go,” I mumbled to her and she placed her head on my shoulder.
“Yeah, let’s go have lunch.”
We got into the dining room and all I could hear were mutters of the thief, everyone was gossiping about me and Cassie and no matter how much I wanted to tell them to shut up or maybe just simply ignore them, I was unable to do both.
Their words were getting to me badly, all this because of a balm. Alpha Kayden had probably thought that he was doing me a favour when he gave me the balm but it is not much of a favourite anymore.
We took our tray of food to our table and sat down there, eating in silence until I decided to speak up.
“What do you think Miss. Lauren would punish us with?” I asked Cassie and she shrugged before putting on her playful frown.
“That witch… She might tell us to clean the whole day or maybe she would tell us we are not going to get a pay,” she replied.
“It would be very well good if she decides to strike out our pay, Alpha Kayden would come back later and perhaps give us our pay,” I replied and then it occurred to me that I was putting a whole lot of trust in Alpha Kayden, I was now seeing him as the one who believed in me, the one who could save me and Cassie from the bad guys.
“Maybe.” Cassie shrugged.
“Just take a look at them… Don’t they have an iota of shame? They still have the guts to come here to eat!”
“Those ignorant fools! I wish I could shapeshift already.” Cara groaned.
“I have a body even if I can’t shapeshift,” I replied to Cara and got up from my seat, banging the table loudly.
“You both shut up! You both have no shame too… Talking about what you know nothing about! Who are you to talk that way about me and my friend?! Do you think you guys don’t have secrets?! I am not a thief but I am very sure that you all hold some dirty secrets in you, how dare you all secrets keeping souls talk ill of me?!!”
