Kayden’s POV
I could see clearly that she was not feeling too good and that the previous day had taken a toll on her but she was merely trying to be fine.
“I… I am fine Alpha Kayden, I don’t want to slack off, I can…..”
“It’s an order, not a request, you are not allowed to refuse.” I cut her off and heard her sigh softly.
“Yes Alpha Kayden,” she mumbled with a bow and turned to leave.
In me, I knew that those words sounded more distant, the way she called Alpha Kayden sounded so far away.
I watched the door shut behind her and sighed. Why am I even this way because of her? Just because I want to find out the mystery behind her does not mean that I should care for her so much and be so lenient with her.
“I am done Alpha Kayden.” the other girl said with a bow and turned to leave.
“You’re Mantha’s friend, right?” I asked
“Yes, Alpha.”
“I will be gone tomorrow, whatever happens here to Mantha, I want you to take note of it all. And the other maids too, no one… No one should be hurt.” I said to her.
“Yes Alpha Kayden,” she replied and exited the room.
I got up from my bed and my mind linked with Davis.
“Hey, any news on the missing beta?” I asked.
“No Alpha, I don’t have anything on him yet but hopefully I would very…”
“Hope?” I scoffed.
“Get yourself working on it and find that guy for me,” I replied him.
“Yes Alpha Kayden,” he replied and I ended the mind link.
“Where do you think that stupid beta could be?” I asked Jay.
“I have no idea, you promised to do something about it so you better do,” Jay replied with a small growl and I reasoned that it would be better to change the topic before he starts getting mad at the stagnancy of this issue.
“You don’t think Mantha seems more withdrawn?” I asked.
“Wait a minute, why are you talking about her?” Jay asked, his voice slow and a bit gentle.
“Because… Because I have nothing to talk about.” I replied.
“Then you could just decide to do what you do best, ignore me and stay silent,” he said.
“C’mon, I am not that bad and oh yes! It’s my fault for actually deciding to turn into a talkative.” I replied.
I grabbed my towel, pulled off my clothes and tied the towel around my waist. Time to get ready for work.

Samantha’s POV
Cassie ran into the maid’s quarters, a very excited look on her face which was sure in contrast to the dullness of my face.
“What happened? Why are you this excited?” I asked but little interest was written on my face.
“Alpha Kayden asked me to make sure that you are safe during his leave,” she replied.
“W… What do you mean?” I stuttered, looking away from her.
“Am I a bit of a special to him?” I asked Cara.
“I think so.” she chuckled.
“Well, he asked me to send him reports of everyone, all maids” Cassie replied and the excitement that was starting to grow in me died immediately.
He wasn’t being particular, he was just after the safety of all the maids and then how in the world would I have thought that I could be special to Alpha Kayden?!
I must have been stupid for a moment.

The next day.
I was awoken by the ringing of my phone, the fact that Cassie had not woken me up yet was an indication that it was still very early in the morning.
There was only one person that could call my phone and that was Alpha Kayden. I breathed in and out deeply before picking up the call.
“Good morning Alpha Kayden.” I greeted over the phone, bowing yet in respect.
“To my room.” the call ended abruptly after those few words.
I sleepily dropped my phone on the bed and took a look at myself, my hair was ruffled, and I had not even taken a bath.
“How sure am I that my appearance would not annoy Alpha Kayden?” I asked Cara.
“And you trying to fix your appearance would take more time and still yet annoy him, right?” She asked and I reasoned that it made much sense.
Alpha Kayden would be so mad if I wasted his time. I quickly slipped on my slip-on and rushed out of the maid’s quarters, careful not to wake up the sleeping maids.
I hurried up the stairs, with the soft breeze blowing up my gown which I had slept in. I got to his door breathing quite heavily.
I breathed in and out deeply before knocking on the door.
“Come in.” his voice was calm, the type that you could not tell whatever was going on in his mind or his head.
I turned the knob and walked inside, my eyes glued to the floor.
“Good morning Alpha Kayden.” I greeted, bowing even deeper.
“Pack up my things,” he mumbled and kicked a bag towards me, the bag stopped just a few meters from my legs.
I gulped hard when I felt his gaze on me, even without looking at him, I could tell that a dangerous gaze was fixated on me. I bent down and picked the bag up.
I kind of had no idea what I was supposed to pack up in the bag.
“Wh… What do I need to pack up sir?” I asked but he remained quiet for a while
“What do you pack when you’re travelling? ” He asked
“I… I am an orphan, I have never travelled Alpha.” I replied to him and he got up from his bed, walking towards me with heavy steps.
He was just a few meters away from me and the closeness was beginning to have a sort of effect on me.
I took three quick steps backwards but it was covered again in two steps of his.
I gulped and moved backwards, this time with four steps but still, yet he walked closer to me, dangerously slow.
I was about to take some more steps backwards when I hit my body against the study table, I shut my eyes tight in expectations of a heavy fall to the floor but there was none, instead, my nose got filled with the best cologne that I had ever sniffed and my waist was wrapped up in warm hands.
I slowly opened my shut eyes to meet a pair of beautiful eyes, for the very first time, my eyes gazed directly into his eyes that seemed to be sucking me into another beautiful world.
The warmth of his arm on my waist, holding me in place was one in a million. My eyes traced his beautifully carved brows down to his straight and pointed nose, right down to his pinkish and full lips that made me salivate.
My toes were curling up tightly in nervousness but my eyes refused to let go of the beautiful sight in front of me. Alpha Kayden’s gaze fell to my lips visibly and next, his head moved closer, I could feel my eyes shutting slowly in subconsciousness.
Is Alpha Kayden really going to kiss me?!
