Chapter 38: Be ready for death

Book:Caught Between Two Alphas Published:2024-5-1

Austin woke up, yawning as he switched on the news. “The country is in a turmoil as strange creatures are seen on the street” The reporter explained as the camera was pointed at some demons.
“Fuck!. Dracula had started” He wrote and left the house. He arrived on the streets and he saw his mom and the army.
“Aim for their hearts, it’ll kill them” Fiona yelled as they split up and battled with demons, some had several eyes and double body parts with big eyes. The demons kept increasing and they were outnumbered.
He instructed Dan to inform everyone to prepare for war, soon, most of the wolves teleported and they wrestled the demons. Most of the demons were plus sizes, there were few beasts and each was fast, light and very sensitive.
“I have to find where he opens the portals” He thought as he saw some wolves on the floor, dead. Humans were terrified as they watched from their windows.
The shaman and all the members arrived except Carlos. ”Austin, you have to conduct a spell that’ll seal the portal but it won’t last long” The shaman yelled as he battled with a sly but little demon.
“Why does it have to be me?” Austin thought as he drove his sword into the heart of the demon in front of him. It let out a low growl and fell to the ground, blood oozing out of its mouth.
“You must do it! Go to my house, on the table you would find a book. Open to the 6th page, go to the river and conduct that spell” The shaman shouted as he used his staff to hold off a demon’s dagger.
Reluctantly, he teleported to the shaman’s house and saw Ava taking the book of spells. “Give it to me now Ava” He ordered and she laughed crazily.
”No, I’m the boss today” She replied and wanted to teleport but he held unto her hair.
“Let go of me now” She yelled, trying to break free.
“Hand over the book” He retorted as he felt a sharp bite on his body, it felt like spiders were stinging his body as the pain travelled to each part of his body. He groaned, wanting to let go but remembered it was his responsibility to protect his pack no matter the situation.
Shakily, his hand found a vase on the table and with all his strength, he picked it up, praying it didn’t fall. With a shriek, he used the vase to hit her neck and she yelled, falling to the ground as the book fell from her hands. She struggled to get up but he used the wind to push her to the wall. Groaning, he picked up the book and teleported to the river.
He opened to the 6th page and saw the spell, panting as he sat at the river bank. Reciting the words, hoping it works, he used his hands to stir the water.
A green light sprouted out of the river, to the sky. The light spread across the sky and he gasped.
He wondered if it worked. Without waiting for anything, he took the book and returned to where everyone was. “But if it worked, why were these demons here?” He thought as his sword clinked with a demon’s sword. He heard a loud cry from Fiona and turned to her side. The sword has sliced her neck though it wasn’t deep. If she doesn’t get rescued, she might die.
With a pant and all his strength, he pushed the demon who crashed to the ground and ran to Fiona who was on her knees, weak. “Ahh” He yelled as he sliced the demon who was about to kill Fiona into two parts.
“Let’s go, mum” He called, gripping her arm as he teleported to the house. A maid was outside the house, she saw startled when she saw them. Austin instructed her to take Fiona inside and take care of her wound.
“Son.. Wait.. Th.. the.. o. l.. ol.. olive stem” She called out weakly and he stared at her. With the help of the maid, she was taken to the garden and she pulled out a plant and handed it to him.
“It.. it… it’ll. Help.. help… yo… you… chew… it” She explained, giving him more stems and he collected them and left after one last glance.
His wolf felt weak and he was glad the demons had reduced. Finally, the last demon was killed and healers rushed to the lifeless ones. “They still have chances, their spirits aren’t dead. Does anyone have an olive stem?” The head healer shouted and he nodded.
Taking painful, heavy steps he got to where the woman was and sank to the ground. Panting heavily, he brought out 4 stems, she looked at him with admiration, and she gasped when she saw his bleeding hand.
She crushed a stem and let the drops fall to his hand. The blood dried up and he felt a little better. “Where can we get more stems?” The healer demanded, gazing at the rest of the bodies on the floor.
He teleported home and saw his mom holding a large basket of olive stems. ”I planted these for emergencies, take it” She mumbled and gave him the basket, with a sad smile, he hugged her tightly and returned to the healer. She smiled at him when she saw the basket.
Austin ran to the shaman who was wobbling, he held his waist, blood on his hand. He took some stems and ran to help the shaman. Austin laid him on the floor, and squeezed the stem with all his might, letting the droplets fall to his waist.
The shaman raised his head, panting hard as he tried to sit up. “Today has been one of the worst days, we lost two members” The shaman confessed.
“Brooklyn isn’t here, let’s go inform him” Harry said, assisting the shaman up. Austin admired his fierce and powerful uncle, he had fought with so much resilience yet he acted like he hadn’t done a thing. His uncle was brave, that’s why he’s the Beta.
“Let’s make sure everyone is safe first” Dan asserted, limping to Austin’s side.
“How many days can the portal be closed?”
“At least 3 days, depends on how strong the person who opens the portal is”
The humans came out, cautiously as they started assisting the weak wolves, an ambulance arrived and the injured were conveyed to the hospital.
”Let’s go to Brooklyn’s house, we need all the help we can get”
“Where’s Carlos, that son of a bitch, if he’s planning on running away then he’ll get disappointed” The shaman fumed and they all teleported to Brooklyn’s house.
They were shocked to see Ava, Barbie, Mia, Brooklyn, Carlos and Dracula having a toast. “Ava, what is going on here?” The stunned shaman asked.
Dracula held his neck tightly. “Don’t raise your voice at her or I’ll be forced to maltreat you” Dracula threatened with a smirk and released the shaman who was gasping for breath.
“I’ll be glad to explain… When you made this thing your alpha, I was furious. I wanted revenge, I wanted to be the alpha and then Dracula came in, he came to me in my house, he had also gone to meet Ava, he told me the way to free him, he promised to make me the alpha in exchange for his freedom and I couldn’t reject such an appealing offer. With Ava by my side, we walked hand in hand. Thank you shaman, your book of spells did an amazing job. Carlos helped performed lots of spells and we freed Dracula, Carlos filled us in about all your plans, and thanks to Ava, we found the human demon, she was right under our noses, Dracula did the needful and now it’s up to Austin to do the needful by letting me become the alpha”. Brooklyn was brief as they stared at him with shock.
“We were supposed to be brothers, you were supposed to support me” Brooklyn let out, shocked that Brooklyn was behind all their problems.
“You’re a big disgrace, don’t ever show your face to us again” Harry asserted.
“You still have the chance to surrender and be part of us” Brooklyn replied and Harry sneered.
“Stop all these and let peace reign”
“Let peace reign? The only way peace would reign is if I’m made the alpha, until then there’ll never be peace” Brooklyn replied coldly.
“Never would I surrender, I’ll make sure I defeat y’all, no matter what it takes” Austin promised.
”Then you should be ready for death because I’m making a vow to become alpha at all cost and I’ll have Ariana at my side” Brooklyn vowed and Austin threw an ice ball at him.
“Don’t you dare, you won’t live to witness it” Austin threatened.
“I’ll make your death very painful” Brooklyn replied and Dracula’s arm sprouted out, holding Austi’s neck.
“Go home, eat some food and when you’re fat enough, we can talk about your death” Dracula scowled.
“I’ll kill you Dracula!” Austin gritted.
“Is it the monk’s sword or the sacrifice you intend to use?” Dracula inquired with pleasure as he pushed Austin to the ground roughly.
“Run along now wolves, it ain’t time for your deaths” Dracula taunted and they left for the courtroom.
“Get everyone ready, it’s war. Search every plantation and get everyone’s body stacked with the olive stem” Austin instructed.
“Even with this Austin, winning is far from us. There are more than thousands of demons out there and we’re no match for them. Finding the demon and sealing the portal forever is the best. Sooner or later, more powerful demons like Dracula would fill the earth” Harry advised and Austin’s face dropped.
“Is it only its blood that is required?”
“No son, she’ll die because she would be stabbed on the altar and her blood would make a shield around the earth” Harry explained and Austin gasped.
He didn’t want Ariana to leave his side and couldn’t imagine her being dead. “What about the monk sword?” He inquired with a gleam of hope.
“It would only kill Dracula not close the portal”
“I can’t lose Ariana, I just confessed my love, not after she has stolen my heart” Austin thought.
“Son, you understand that it’s a matter of life and death?” The shaman demanded and Jayden nodded.
“Let’s go home to recuperate, we need a lot of strength”
Ariana woke up and couldn’t find Austin, she went downstairs and found his note. “I hope he’s not hurt” She thought as she switched on the television.
Her heart leapt when she saw Austin fighting with a demon, she couldn’t control the tears that rolled out of her eyes. “Please be safe” She prayed as she watched the tv closely.
“It’s his responsibility, never would an alpha back down” Her demon muttered.
”What if he dies?” She implored with tears.
“He’ll die as a hero, his people would give him a befitting burial”
“No! I’m going there now. I can’t let him die” Ariana sobbed.
“If you go, you’ll die”
“What do you mean?”
“If you go there, you’ll shift to your demon form and someone who thinks you’re an enemy and kill you”
“But.. but.. w.. what.. What about… Au.. Austin?” She stuttered calmly as she watched the ambulance carry weak wolves.
“Look, he’s not among those being taken to the hospital, I need to go check if he’s alive” She shouted.
“He’s an alpha and a powerful one” Her demon responded.
”If anything bad happens to Austin, I’ll kill myself, we just fell in love. He’s the only guy my heart beats for, how would I continue living if my heart stops beating?” She cried as she fell to the ground.
Austin teleported to the house and saw Ariana wailing on the floor. “What’s wrong?” He asked, panicking as he ran to her side.
“You’re alive! Ahhh” She yelled as she hugged his neck tightly, tears of joy rolling out of her eyes.
“I missed you so much. Don’t ever leave please. Let’s go on dates, let’s make memories” She blurted, still hugging him and he smiled, wrapping his hand around her.
“Stop crying, I’ll never leave you” He cooed, brushing her hair as she looked at his body.
“Your hand, are you hurt?” She panicked as she saw blood.
“Hey, I’m an alpha, I can’t die so easily” He joked as she kissed his lips, he drew her closer and deepened the kiss.
“I couldn’t die when I was aware that someone sexy was waiting for me”
“Stop it, have your bath, eat lunch and take a nap and when you’re awake, we’ll have one long steamy round of pleasure” She teased and he laughed.
“Let’s bath together, that’s what couples do”
“Stop being too naughty, you can tell me about the fight instead” She replied with a sigh.
“Don’t trust Brooklyn, he’s the one who released Dracula” Austin warned.
“Why would he do that? Doesn’t he know the implications of his actions?”
“He did, but he’s blinded by his hatred for me, he hated me after knowing he was the first child who didn’t utter a word when he was born until after some hours, making me the first child instead” Austin explained.
“I feel for your mom, she would be devastated and trying all her best now” Ariana said with a sigh.
