It was Hunter’s turn to roll his eyes and he did just that ” Who were you babysitting then? ”
Ava closed her eyes briefly, tired of Hunter’s stupidity. She ignored his question and continued ” So I’ve been working there for some months now and it’s where I live too ” She concluded and took another sip from her drink.
” And where did the child come in? His nephew or is it a niece? ” He questioned with his eyebrows raised.
” Oh! Now I get the whole thing, he’s a busy man and needed someone to look after his nephew ” He finished with a satisfied nod.
” Will you shut up and stop speculating? ” Ava asked tiredly.
” Alright I’m sorry, just tell me everything and don’t leave me hanging ” He whined and added ” Pretty please? ”
Ava sighed and stared at him expressionlessly ” There’s no child, Hunter ”
His eyebrows furrowed even more ” So who have you been… ” He didn’t get to finish his words because Ava interrupted him.
” The boss himself ” She announced.
Shock was an understatement for the expression written all over Hunter’s face.
” Sorry?! ” He was dumbfounded.
” I’m not repeating that again Hunter, you heard me fully well ” She glared at him.
He drew his chair closer to hers, becoming even more interested ” You babysit your boss?! “. Ava nodded
” Why?? Is he sick or something? ” He asked, his curiosity increasing by the minute.
Ava nodded again ” Was ” She said simply. She could sense Hunter was dying to know everything that happened to Alex.
” And now he’s okay? What was the cause of the accident? Was it that bad?? ” He asked again.
” I don’t know the details dude, I started working with him after the accident but I could tell it was a terrible one, seeing how it almost destroyed him ” She answered.
” Destroyed him? In what way exactly? ” He asked impatiently, more curious than anyone could ever get.
” He couldn’t speak for some months after accident ” She replied quietly.
” Wow ” Was the only thing he could think of saying as he was still shocked.
” Is he okay now? ” He asked after some time.
Ava let out a small smile ” He is okay now, got a surgery which went well ”
Hunter stared at Ava deeply, as if he was trying to read more meaning into what she said.
” Is that you smiling? Do you like your boss? ” He smiled.
” Hell no! ” Ava snapped and realizing what she did, took a deep breath and added more calmly ” I don’t like him, I was just glad he got back on his own two feet ” She cleared her throat and avoided staring at Hunter because he could dig out the truth from her just by staring at her and Ava wasn’t ready to talk about the feelings she was unsure of yet.
Hunter nodded knowingly but he did not say more provocative statements. They sat in comfortable silence until Ava spoke up
” And you? What’s up with you and what have you been doing all these years? ” Hunter smiled and gave her a full recap of how his life had been in the last seven years or so.
Ava sat back and enjoyed him talk while she asked him questions from time to time. The date went really well and Ava enjoyed every bit of it to the last minute.
Then he dropped her off at the mansion ” I’ll call everyday and we’ll also do everything in our bucket list that we were not able to do back then, okay? ” He promised, while patting her hair.
” I can’t wait! ” She screamed.
Hunter’s eyes widened and he covered her mouth with a hand ” Are you crazy, Ava? Why the fuck are you screaming?! ”
” Because I’d finally get to do everything in my bucket list? ” She answered quietly and anyone would think she had a change of heart. Hunter was successfully tricked because he smiled and extended his arms for a hug.
” It’s okay baby, I understand ” He said sweetly.
Ava smacked him on the head and bursted into laughter ” Come on, you really didn’t think I’d be sad, did you? ”
Hunter hissed and rubbed his sore head ” Sometimes I wonder why you’re still my friend. You girl, are sooo crazy! ”
Ava laughed some more and they parted ways shortly after. She made her way into the mansion and opened the door with a smile pasted on her face. The lights were off and the house was quiet, meaning everyone had gone to bed.
She walked carefully, trying not to make a sound and was almost at the staircase when she heard a voice.
” It’s about damn time you came home ” It was no other person but Alex as he switched on the lights.
” Holy shit! You scared the hell out of me! ” She yelled and placed her hand on her chest to calm her racing heart.
Alex’s eyes followed her action and he gulped.
” How was your date? ” He asked but Ava could see he wasn’t happy about it.
” It was great, thanks for asking ” She replied politely.
He nodded ” Do you like him? ” He asked in a rather senseless way.
Ava frowned ” What kind of question is that? ”
He repeated ” Answer me Ava, do you like him? ”
” It’s none of your business, is it? ” She snapped but that didn’t deter Alex from asking the third time. Ava rolled her eyes, stubbornly refusing to answer him. She adjusted her dress well and once again, his eyes were drawn to her breasts.
Forcefully tearing his gaze from where they were, he locked his eyes with hers and walked towards her slowly.
