But before he could take things further by placing his hands on her breasts like she wanted, her phone rang and they jumped apart like kids who were caught in the act. With a flushed face and trembling hands, she hit the receiver button.
” Hel… Hello? ” She said into the speaker, panting softly.
” Oh! Hunter, I’ll be out in a minute ” and she hung up.
To Alex, she said quietly ” Uh… My date is here so I got to go now ”
Alex slowly released her and backed some steps away while he nodded his head ” Okay okay, I didn’t know you had a date ” He muttered rather senselessly.
Ava refused the urge to roll her eyes and just copied his action by nodding her head too ” Yeah, I do have a date and he’s here ”
” Enjoy your date ” He said rather stiffly and brushed past her.
Ava heard the sound of doors closing and sighed. Why had he acted that way? He wasn’t jealous of her friend, was he?
Putting the whole thing at the back of her mind after she promised to think about it later, she decided to focus on enjoying her first date. She confidently walked to the big gates.

” About time you appeared, Miss Adams. I was starting to think something held you back in there ” Hunter said the minute she came out.
” And I must say Miss Adams, you look absolutely stunning ” He complimented, his eyes twinkling as he placed kisses on her soft hands.
Ava laughed ” Now I see why you have ladies wrapped around your fingers. Poor ladies ” and she made a sad face. They both laughed and he opened the car door for her before going over to the driver’s side. Once he settled in, he did her seatbelt like a gentleman and Ava thanked him.
” What a nice place you’ve got here ” He said with approval as he observed the mansion the second time before he started the ignition.
Ava rolled her eyes ” And who told you the mansion is mine? ”
” Oh really? ” He asked, sounding a bit surprised.
Ava nodded ” Yeah ”
” Who owns the place then? A friend? ” He probed further, sounding more interested.
Ava glanced back at the mansion which stood proudly alone in the middle of the street.
” My boss ” She blurted out.
The car suddenly screeched and came to a halt. ” Boss?? You live in a guy’s place?! ” He asked with an alarmed expression on his face.
” He’s not a guy, Hunter ” She tried to reason with him calmly.
But Hunter wasn’t having any of that because he raised his voice even louder ” What is he then? Transgender? ” He scoffed.
Ava sighed ” He’s my boss ”
His eyes widened even more ” Listen to yourself Ava, he’s who? Your boss? And you live with him?! Is your boss not a man?? ”
Ava sighed again ” Calm down Hunter and let me explain the whole thing ” She waited for him to answer which he did after throwing her a glare.
” Okay, let’s hear it ” With that said, he sat back on his chair and eyed her suspiciously.
Ava took a deep breath ” My mother died some years back and living with Bobby and his father became hell for me ” Her voice became low at the end which made Hunter wondered if she was crying. After she narrated what happened to her mother, Hunter’s expression changed and he had on a pitiful look coupled with a surprised one.
” I’m sorry ” He said quietly and Ava nodded.
Then she continued ” I considered running away many times but I had nowhere to go so I beared with all the shits they did to me until I couldn’t anymore. So I came across a flier by chance and applied to be a babysitter because it was what was stated on the flier ”
Ava took a pause and took a sip from her drink. She knew she was not supposed to tell her friend about Alex but this was HER friend and she trusted him. Besides, Alex was fine now so what harm could telling Hunter about him do?
So she continued ” So I was employed right after the interview and started working in the mansion ”
” As? ” Hunter cut in impatiently.
It was Ava’s turn to glare at him ” Will you shut your trap let me speak ?? ”
Hunter raised his hands in surrender ” Okay okay, I’m sorry ” But Ava didn’t lessen the glare
” Ma’am ” He added in a teasing tone.
Ava smiled at that and continued ” I was employed for the job of a babysitter ”
” Oh, your boss has a kid ” He butted in again, nodding as if he understood everything.
If looks could kill, Hunter was sure he would be dead on the floor with the deadly glares sent him.
Soon they got to the restaurant and Hunter pulled out her chair for her which made Ava smiled.
He started talking as soon as they got seated ” So you said your boss has a child, huh? ”
Ava sent him another glare from across the table ” Shut the fuck up, Hunter or I’ll strangle you ” She said angrily.
Hunter crossed his hands over his heart ” Oh my God, I’m so scared! ” He teased, laughing.
” I’ll kill you, I promise you that ” She threatened.
” Alright vixen, enough of your threats. I promise I’ll be a good listener this time, are we cool? ” He asked, grinning.
Ava rolled her eyes for the umpteenth time that evening and resumed talking ” Just so you know, he doesn’t have a child ”
His eyes went wide ” If he doesn’t have a child, then who are you babysitting? ” He asked curiously.
” Were ” Ava corrected, eyeing him.
