Chapter 57: Underestimated the Place You Hold

Book:Love Like Arsenic Published:2024-5-1

I was completely unaware that Quan Shaoze on the other end was already going crazy looking for me.
He hadn’t been eating regularly ever since I disappeared. He had instructed people to search for me everywhere, and to look for every possible clue.
But after the failure of all his attempts, his usually indifferent face looked frustrated for the first time.
I was imprisoned by Quan Jinnian and isolated from the rest of the world. He never allowed me to go out, and my activities were limited to my own room and the living room. I lived every day in sorrow.
Therefore, I had no idea that Quan Shaoze’s men detected my chip at the bottom of the sea a few days later. Quan Shaoze suddenly went crazy and beat up the guy who concluded that I might have been dead already.
At this moment, his eyes showed panic and bloodiness that I had never seen before. He said that it was impossible that I had died, and that he didn’t believe I was dead.
After that, he sent people to look for me while also searching for my “body” in the sea.
In short, he wanted to see me regardless of whether I was dead or alive.
He hadn’t had a meal with the peace of mind since then, and he soon looked haggard.
I had no idea at all that Quan Shaoze cared so much about me. I had only immersed myself in sadness thinking that he might not like me, and couldn’t get out of it for a long time.
However, when I woke up early the next morning and was about to have my breakfast, I accidentally heard Quan Jinnian on the phone downstairs.
Quan Jinnian happened to turn around at this moment, “Oh? He actually got people to dive into the sea?”
Seeing me up so early, he looked surprised for a moment and immediately cut off the call.
Then, he brought me to the table and sat down with a smile, acting as if nothing had happened.
Although I was a little doubtful about him hanging up suddenly, I didn’t think about it anymore since I hadn’t heard anything amiss in his incomplete sentence.
Throughout the meal, he kept looking at me from time to time with an inexplicable smile on his face, making me feel really uneasy.
I quickly finished my food and got up, but he stopped me and said that he wanted to have a chat with me. I had no choice but to obey, and I answered his meaningless questions without paying attention to him throughout.
Suddenly, I remembered that he had removed the chip for me some time back, so I asked him where the chip was, because Quan Shaoze might be able to locate it.
If I could get it back, it would be much easier to ask him for help.
But Quan Jinnian seemed to have read my mind. He refused to tell me, and merely told me with an ambiguous smile, “It has gone to where it belongs.”
I was shocked instantly and felt a chill down my spine.
I just felt that the meaning behind his words weren’t that simple.
Knowing that it was impossible to get anything out of him, I didn’t want to stay with him any longer, and I shut myself in my room until night time.
Quan Jinnian came to look for me and told me out of the blue that he had underestimated the place I held in Quan Shaoze’s heart.
“What do you mean?” I frowned and looked at Quan Jinnian, who was smiling inexplicably in front of me, and I was overwhelmed by helplessness.
I felt terrified whenever he lost his temper out of the blue and said baffling words like this.
“Do you know that you’ve done me a huge favor?” he suddenly whispered in my ear, smiling.
I was shocked and immediately looked up at him.
What had I done?
At the same time, I got a really bad feeling about this.
Seeing my reaction, Quan Jinnian couldn’t help but laugh. He held my chin and said, “Don’t be nervous, I’ve merely used your birthdate to open my silly brother’s safe in the office.
