“What happened?” I stood beside my brother’s bed in a daze and looked at him, heartbroken. He seemed to be even weaker than before he was admitted to hospital.
Tears immediately streamed down my cheeks.
But to avoid disturbing him, I strode back to the door, covering my mouth with my hand.
After coming out of the ward, I rushed to the medical staff’s office frantically to have them treat my brother.
It was obvious that my brother’s condition was deteriorating.
After examining my brother, the doctor, who had been as anxious as I was didn’t seem to be surprised, as if he had got used to it. He led me out of the ward and told me about my brother’s illness.
I was extremely disappointed with his indifference.
When I was in a trance, the doctor said, “Don’t disturb him or cry in front of him. If he’s emotionally stable, he may live a little bit longer.” I felt like being in an ice grotto at his words.
I was out of mind with anger and before the doctor could finish his words, I grabbed him by the collar and yelled at him with tears in my eyes, trying to force him to make things clear.
The doctor wasn’t mad at me, instead, he tried to persuade me to take it easy with a long sigh.
But he left before I could understand what he meant.
I walked back to the ward in a daze and stared at my brother for a long time, filled with guilt.
“It’s all my fault. I didn’t take good care of you.”
I thought sadly, my eyes turning bloodshot again. Why did such things always happen to me?
At this point, my brother suddenly woke up and opened his eyes with difficulty. “Sister!” he called me with a faint smile.
My heart ached at his whisper. I immediately turned around and covered my mouth while tears were springing out.
How did things turn out this way?
My brother had been admitted to the hospital for a long time. How did his illness become so serious?
At the thought of what the doctor said, I almost cried my eyes out.
As my eyes were both red and swollen, I didn’t dare turn around and look at my brother until he fell asleep again.
“Sorry! I promise I’ll cure you!” I pecked him on the forehead and then walked out of the ward with determination.
I wiped my tears off my face and went to the office of my brother’s attending doctor. After briefly introducing ourselves to each other, I knew he was Doctor Li. “Doctor Li, is there any other methods to cure my brother?” I asked with a serious look on my face.
“Miss Lin, we’ve done everything we could, but it seems that your mother, Mrs. Zhang Yue doesn’t want to continue his treatment,” Doctor Li said with a slight sigh.
Hearing that, I froze on the spot for quite a while before coming back to my senses.
I suddenly felt my throat getting dry. “What?” I exerted all my strength to spit the word out.
Zhang Yue didn’t want to cure my brother?!
As if he could not bear to see me like this, Doctor Li looked extremely sorry for me. After a short pause, he continued, “Yes, for nearly half a year, Mrs. Zhang refused to pay a penny more than what’s necessary to keep your brother alive.”
Although he was very cautious with his words, I still felt indescribable pain in my heart.
I said good-bye to him in a hurry and then called Zhang Yue indignantly.
She owed me a reasonable explanation!
