Chapter 15: She Knew about My Past

Book:Love Like Arsenic Published:2024-5-1

I thought she meant what had happened today, so I didn’t think much about it and went to bed early after taking a quick shower absentmindedly.
However, I woke up early the next morning. The more I thought about what Zhang Yue said last night, the more I felt that something must have been wrong.
Why did she particularly stress the words “obedient” and “Mrs. Zhao”?
It seemed she had figured something out.
Thinking of this, my heart skipped a beat for no reason, but I immediately denied my assumption. Then I got out of the bed restlessly.
After changing my clothes, I checked the bedroom and the study, but only found that everything was left as it was, so I knew Zhao Dong hadn’t come back yet.
“Maybe he is with Xiao Yue at the moment.” At the thought of this, I felt a twitch in my heart.
A short while later, I had put my coat on and was about to leave. I still felt like Zhang Yue’s words had profound meaning, so I decided to talk to her about it or maybe about the company.
However, as soon as I came to the door, Wang Yanfen walked out from her room. I puckered my lips slightly, trying to leave as soon as possible as I saw her open her mouth and was about to say something with a sarcastic look.
“Get out, and don’t you ever come back!”
Although I ran away as fast as possible, her merciless words still exploded in my ears with the slam of her door.
The sound of Wang Yanfen slamming the door irritated me. I quickened up my pace and tooka taxi, heading for my parents’ house.
Watching the heavy iron gate of their house, I hesitated for a while and was lost in thoughts.
“Should I come to them just because of a text message that I made me feel kind of strange? They will definitely treat me as indifferently as before!”
As I was wrestling with myself whether to go back or not, I saw dark clouds gathering in the sky. The wind blew, giving me goose bumps.
Obviously, it would rain soon. I didn’t want to take shelter from the rain at their house, so I was going to give up the idea of meeting Zhang Yue.
However, the moment I just turned, I saw Zhang Yue’s car coming over and stopping right in front of me.
I wanted to walk away, pretending not to see her, but was stopped by her. Feigning my composure, I looked up at her getting out of the car and walking towards me.
“What are you doing here?” Zhang Yue frowned at my silence.
I shook my head perfunctorily and was about to move forward, but she suddenly grabbed me by the arm.
“Your mother-in-law just taught you a lesson yesterday. Why don’t you stay at home? She may think you came out to meet some man secretly!”
My heart beat wildly at the sarcasm she suggested, but I didn’t believe that she would have known the affair between that man and me, so I felt a little relieved.
I managed to calm myself down and looked into her eyes, saying that I only came out for some fresh air.
She didn’t dig further about my purpose of being here, instead she sneered at me and then took me in their house expressionlessly.
Watching her closing the door, I suddenly got flustered. But it was too late to leave, as she had come over and stood in my way.
“You’re married, so you can’t persist in your old ways. If you want to keep your position in the Zhao family, apart from being obedient, you also need to know how to hide your secrets from them, past or present.”
I was taken aback at her words. The half-smile on her face that I saw when I was in a trance made my hair stand on end.
“She… she knows about my past!?”
Associating the text message that she sent me last night with what she said just now, I was certain with my life experience over twenty years that she knew what had happened to me in the past.
“You!”
