Chapter 6: Just A Coincidence

Book:Love Like Arsenic Published:2024-5-1

Having never thought that I would have met my husband here, I froze for a moment at the sight of him. “Why isn’t he at the dinner party?”
“Then what’s he doing at the hotel?”
Thinking of the inconsistency between his short message and deed, I was filled with suspicion about his appearance at the hotel.
At the very moment, I saw my husband walking to me slowly with a gentle smile, just like before.
This made me a little guilty.
It was me who lied first and dressed like that, kissing another man. How could I suspect my husband, who loved me so much all the time?
Maybe I should be the one to say sorry.
The more I thought this way, the more I felt guilty.
Watching him coming closer, I got even more intense.
As I had no idea how to explain to him about my presence at this place.
Suddenly, a lighthearted voice rang out. “Why are you still here in a daze? I thought you said we were leaving.”
I was surprised at the beginning when Xiao Yue suddenly showed herself in front of me, but instantly, I breathed a sigh of relief and began to play along with a smile.
“Do you still want to hang out? Then I’ll just head back to the company.” My husband stopped in front of me the moment Xiao Yue took my hand.
Our perfect cooperation worked well and my husband did not notice anything wrong. He then left after saying good-bye to us.
Only then did I relax completely.
I was not in the mood of telling Xiao Yue what was going on, so I just made a casual excuse and left in a hurry, without even thinking about why she suddenly appeared here.
After taking only a few steps forward, I received the order that man texted me again.
I had to turn and follow Xiao Yue as he requested. When I stopped behind her, I happened to see her waving good-bye to someone.
I did not notice anything wrong until I saw that person, who put his hand over the car window, wearing the same watch on his wrist as my husband’s. I was shocked for the moment and then lost in thought.
“My husband?”
“Isn’t he supposed to be at the company now? Why is he still here? What’s more, Xiao Yue is seeing him off!”
I felt like a bomb exploded in my head and my mind was immediately crowded with a myriad of assumptions which pricked my nerves.
Only then did I begin to wonder why Xiao Yue had shown up at the hotel at the same time as my husband, who should have gone to the dinner party. Besides, she also covered for my lies.
Actually, I did not tell Xiao Yue about this at all.
I felt so bad and could hardly breath. I tried to comfort myself that it was just a coincidence, but I could not just sit watching.
Without the courage of digging deeper, I took my phone out and dialed my husband’s number with a trembling hand. Soon his gentle voice rang on the other end of the line.
I was at a loss for words when he asked me what was wrong with me. His surroundings sounded very quiet, not like he was on the road, so I felt a little relieved.
However, this did not dispel my doubts.
“What are you doing?” I could not help but ask.
With that, my heart beat faster and my palms began to sweat.
I knew it was meaningless to ask such a question, but I still hoped that it was not him Xiao Yue had just sent away.
I felt assured when he told me that he was in a meeting, so I hang up after chatting with him randomly for a few minutes.
At this point, Xiao Yue, who was about to leave, happened to see me. She was surprised when she found that I was still here, but soon she approached with a smile.
She took my hand intimately. Maybe because she found that I was in low spirits, she asked with concern, “Didn’t you say you were busy? Then why are you still here? What’s wrong?”
I cleared up my mind and forced a smile while seemingly carelessly asking her who she had just sent away. When she told me that it was her new boyfriend, my tension was eventually relieved.
Maybe it was just a coincidence.
