Chapter 45: That Child Was Still Alive

Still at a very young age, Shengsheng was extremely excited to go to the kindergarten and make new friends there once she recovered. Every day when she came home, she would jump into Luo Chejue’s arms, sharing with him what had happened during the day. She also started to act coquettishly a lot and became increasingly naughty and vivacious due to the indulgence of Luo Chejue.
Xia Weiwei got worried at times, but Luo Chejue, holding Shengsheng in his arms, took it for granted and said, “My daughter is no doubt the princess of Jincheng.”
They frequently fought over how to educate their child and then parted on bad terms, which made Xia Weiwei even more determined to leave.
“Xia Weiwei, this is Chu Yu. Can you come to the hospital if you have time?” Without waiting for her reply, the call was hung up right away. “Why would Chu Yu call me? Did he find evidence about my mother’s death?” she thought to herself.
When she arrived at the hospital, Chu Yu asked her immediately, “I heard that you don’t want to stay with Jue?”
Still panting, Xia Weiwei knew in an instant that what he was about to say had nothing to do with her mother. “Are you his lobbyist?” she asked him.
Twitching his mouth, Chu Yu replied, “I’m not that bored. But I think there is one thing you need to know.”
With his words, he walked ahead and signaled her to follow him. Despite her suspicion, Xia Weiwei still went along.
They turned several corners until Xia Weiwei started to pant a little. She asked impatiently, “What on earth is it?”
Chu Yu halted. Xia Weiwei rounded him and asked again, “What the hell do you want to show me…”
All of a sudden, she was at a loss for words and could not continue. Before her eyes was an ICU ward with a huge glass window. Standing there like a log, completely frozen, Xia Weiwei stared at the ward in a daze. Inside the ward, Luo Chejue was lying on a bed with his eyes closed, with a tube being inserted into his heart and another seemingly into his nape. What’s more, a doctor was inserting a needle into his scalp, looking like that he was extracting something.
Next to him, a mini-sized Luo Chejue was lying there, very thin and weak, and his skin sickly white. He was wearing an oxygen mask and his whole body was intubated with many tubes, large and small.
At one glance, Xia Weiwei knew that he was her child! Jingnian! Luo Jingnian! That poor child who she thought had been smashed to death by Xia Mo!
He was still alive!
Tears gushed out of Xia Weiwei’s eyes immediately. Firmly covering her mouth, she stared at that child without blinking before she bent over and started to choke with sobs.
“I did not know it either until recently. Four years ago, when Jue hurried to the hospital, it was already too late. He had to treat you that way in order to avoid suspicion of Xia Mo, but in the meantime, he secretly relocated the baby who still had his last breath. However, after being smashed to the ground as a new-born infant, he was still alive yet was diagnosed as brain-dead. Jue then hired the top-notch doctors, but they told him that it was too dangerous to perform craniotomy on an infant because he could not survive from it. So, in the past years, Jue came here every Monday to accept inspections, donate bone marrow, and wash and massage the baby, to make sure that child’s bones and physical mechanism can grow normally, and he is able to undergo the surgery, which is due today.”
Xia Weiwei squashed herself against the window and fixed her greedy gaze on the child. She dreaded to imagine how much pain her child that she felt the sorriest for had suffered for the past years. Her tears formed a puddle of water before the window.
Chu Yu went on, “What you had suffered back then was truly because of Jue, but you should know, being raised in the Luo family, he has his pride. He seemed ruthless but he was merely angry with you. You were the suspect for his mother’s death. You’re always saying that you and Jue are childhood friends, but have you forgotten that the actual childhood sweetheart are you and Yan Shaoxuan? Besides, there were those photos which Xia Mo had arranged to take deliberately. You know Jue, he was jealous but refused to admit it due to his nature.”
“That time when you transfused blood to Xia Mo, Jue said no. It was your father and Xia Mo who paid off that doctor who did not save you as instructed by Jue, but he did not dare to let you die either, so he crippled you. I don’t think I need to tell you the end of that doctor. But you have seen Xia Mo. Your father has also been driven to a corner by Jue. He is sly but his good days are numbered.”
What Chu Yu said addressed precisely to the obsession in her heart. Until now, she finally knew everything. She could not stop crying, and with red and swollen eyes, she wished only to dash into the ward and hold two of them tightly in her arms.
“Luo Chejue, I forgive you!”
However, both the emotional Xia Weiwei and Chu Yu failed to notice someone in ghastly white clothes pass fleetingly around the corner.
