Regina clutched her arm, crying louder and more heartbroken by the peaceful river.
For the first time, Mandel became terrified. She sobbed softly, like a forlorn kid in the cold rain of a winter night.
Her teary eyes were filled with anguish. It was the first time he witnessed Regina exhibit such emotion. Mandel’s body stiffened, and his uplifted hand was unable to reach Regina. He could only watch her tears stream down the fissure in her cheeks.
After a long time, Mandel leaned over and took her into his arms.
Regina didn’t resist since she was exhausted from crying. She wailed in the arms of Mandel.
The familiar fresh scent combined with the light perfume he typically wears. It smelled just like him!
“She is fine.”
He stroked her on the back and took his time saying those things.
Regina was ejected from his arms while still wailing.
“What exactly did you just say? What the hell happened to my mother?”
Regina excitedly gripped Mandel’s collar, as if she would die with him if he didn’t say something today.
“I said your mother is OK!” Mandel wiped his brow helplessly. “Instead of worrying about your mother, you might as well worry about how to explain to me about you and Albert,” he replied angrily after a while.
Regina was shocked to notice that Mandel’s demeanor as he looked out the window was unusual.
Was he… jealous?
Could he have come out to look for her that day? Then did he get so angry when he saw her getting into Albert’s car?
Regina was terrified of her own ideas. She shook her head quickly, attempting to shake this ludicrous idea out of her head.
It couldn’t be! How could a man as apathetic as Mandel have emotions? Besides, she was simply a toy to him. How could he be mad at someone for her?
Seeing that her crying finally subsided, Mandel secretly breathed a sigh of relief.
He has no fear if he is allowed to fight in business. But he was too humiliated to let him encourage Regina, who was sobbing uncontrollably.
He silently started the car and drove it away from the river.
“Where are you taking me?” Regina stiffened vigilantly.
If Mandel wanted to take her back to Martin’s place, she had to go today, even if she leaped out of the car.
She would never go back to the place where she had suffered so much humiliation.
“I’ll take you to the apartment!” An angry voice sounded overhead.
Mandel added, slightly threateningly, before Regina’s tight body could relax: “Whether you’re happy or not, live in the riverside flat. I recommend that you accept it obediently, Regina. Don’t test my patience.”
Regina gazed at him, only to be met by a set of black eyes as mysterious as deep pools of water.
Her questioning words could only be swallowed back fiercely.
All right! Since Mr. Martin kept a mistress in a love nest, she could accept it.
A tinge of pleasure surged through her heart as she remembered Mandel’s awkward attempt of soothing her just now. Mandel’s comments were like a soothing medication.
Her mother must be OK now because he said she was fine.
She didn’t appear to be as bothered when she thought about it this way. Regina felt a lot more at ease in her heart, which she attributed to the reason she had just vented.
Seeing the woman next him suddenly quiet, Mandel was still a little taken aback.
Without a word, the car stopped in the parking lot of River Park.
“Get off!”
His words carried a hint of command.
Regina obediently got out of the car and followed behind Mandel.
This individual was consistently excellent. The black trench coat with a nice texture made his form thin and upright. The man moved at a slow and deliberate pace. His unseen noble aura drew people’s attention even when he didn’t say anything.
Even if the aura around him was slightly frigid, there was still a reassuring power following after him.
“Call my assistant if anything is missing.”
His mesmerizing voice rang out indifferently, and he handed her a piece of paper with a phone number written on it.
Looking at the check in her hand, Regina couldn’t help being speechless.
There was no doubt that Mandel’s financial resources were plentiful, but it seemed a little overstated that he had to replace the paper on which he wrote with a check.
“There are no sticky notes.” Mandel’s eyes were strange for a moment.
Mandel’s flat was far superior to her tiny dwelling. The large and brilliant floor-to-ceiling windows resembled the mansion that Regina had imagined.
But not in this way. Keep a mistress in a love nest.
Sarcastically, Regina smiled. Others would decide her fate. Even if she was hesitant, she had no choice but to accept it.
“Are you going to go yet?” Regina waited at the door, embarrassed, looking helpless at Mandel, who refused to leave.
Although she accepted the house he arranged, she refused to live in it with him!
“Do you really want me to go?”
With one hand on the wall, Mandel pushed Regina behind the door. The attractive face approached and paused before her lips. Regina could feel his hot, heavy breath across her neck.
“Shouldn’t you go back? Aren’t you afraid that your fiancée will be in a hurry?”
Regina averted her gaze, a little embarrassed.
“Are you required to do this?” For a while, Mandel was only irritated. He couldn’t dispute his engagement to Cecily at this point, and he couldn’t let the woman in front of him escape his grasp.
His relationship with Cecily was merely a familial arrangement, a business transaction devoid of passion, and the obstinate lady in front of him had repeatedly questioned his authority.
Even Mandel didn’t sure what his emotions were at this point.
The tenderness that had been there just now disappeared, and the war between the two seemed to be on the verge of breaking out.
Forget it!
Regina was left with a silent back and a heavy door closing. She appeared to have lost all of her strength at this point.
The phone beside Regina rang just as her heart felt empty.
Regina cast a gaze. The number on the caller ID was unusual and unfamiliar.
Regina was tense. This was an unexpected visitor.
