“Mr. Martin, Regina is our daughter, and we’re just rushing…” Caroline’s normal bravado was doused by Mandel’s impetus, and she shrank behind Frank.
“We had no idea you had such a relationship, Mr. Martin. She’s my daughter, and beating her is equally as horrible for me as a father. Her mother and I are here today solely to transport her home.”
Frank grinned and shielded Caroline behind him, pretending to be pathetic when necessary. His cunning gaze traveled over Mandel and Regina, as though he was observing their connection.
“Do you wish to sum up the situation in a few words?” Mandel approached Frank. He snatched the individual in front of him with both hands. “You must be prepared to pay the price if you beat my woman.” Even though she was appalled by the tall and attractive man in front of her, she still felt a little warmth in her heart.
As though standing behind him, no matter what threats awaited her, he could stop them.
But he ultimately belonged to someone else. He was on her side today for the sake of the child in her belly, right?
Regina averted her eyes, a mournful expression on her delicate face.
“Look at this, Mr. Martin… We were unaware of Regina and your relationship in advance. We will take care of Regina when we return, as you requested.”
Frank expressed his weakness and spoke. The Martin Group was clearly no match for a tiny family like the Millers. Leaving aside his social standing, Mandel, who was only a few dozen years his junior, was able to instill in him such a powerful sense of tyranny. This man in front of him exuded such a chilly menacing energy that he couldn’t even utter threatening words.
He clearly saw the warning and shock in Mandel’s eyes.
“I don’t want you to bother. I will look after Regina. The rest is unnecessary. You should know what to do.”
His deadly eyes narrowed gently and the corners of his lips smiled faintly, prompting Frank and Caroline to sweat bitterly behind him. Regina had a relationship with such a powerful person. It appeared that the goal of returning her to the Miller family today had not been met.
The two exchanged respectful glances before responding to Mandel: “You are correct. We have nothing to be concerned about with you here. Then we’ll return first. We’ll see you later, Regina.”
Caroline finished speaking quickly, then dragged Frank’s sleeve and walked away.
The burning agony on Regina’s face hasn’t gone away. She couldn’t help but scowl when she heard Caroline’s words. They were only seeing that she still had affection for the Millers. Disappointment in her father hit her like a tidal wave, and she closed her eyes painfully, never wanting to see them again.
“It’s not required for the two of you, in my opinion. Today, I have the impression that Mr. Miller adores his daughter far too much. I didn’t even hit her. How can I allow others to hit her?”
Mandel averted his angry look and strolled in front of Regina. He had inadvertently placed his shoulders on her, and the menacing vibe he projected made him tremble.
Frank wiped the cold sweat from his head and dragged Caroline away in a hurry.
Mandel pulled up the silent Regina and wanted to drag her into the apartment.
“Let go.” Regina stepped away from Mandel impatiently, a faint mist in her eyes.
When he saw the pair of sad eyes, Mandel’s demeanor clouded, but he didn’t say much.
“You take a break, and I’ll prepare something for you to eat.”
He eventually restrained his rage and transformed it into tenderness.
Regina only realized Mandel was holding a shopping bag after that. He apparently departed without saying goodbye to go grocery shopping?
She instantly felt strange when she thought of the peculiar feeling that had been suppressed in her heart just now.
“What exactly are you laughing about?” Mandel lifted his brows and spoke in an unusually soft tone.
“I just think Mr. Martin is incongruent with the sight in front of me. The classy Martin Group’s eldest son truly wants to produce something for a woman like me who has been in prison for two years. “I’m not sure what your fiancée would say if she finds out about you like this, Mr. Martin.”
Mandel’s face clouded, and the object in his hand was tossed on the table next to him. He had a melancholy expression on his face as he noticed Regina’s playfulness.
“I strongly encourage you not to test my patience. You are aware of the cost.”
In an instant, his lofty figure collapsed. Regina had no choice but to lean against the corner. The man’s breath, mingled with his distinct aroma, drilled fiercely into her nose.
Her heart rate increased wildly. She clinched her teeth and tried to sound as icy as she could with her cracked voice.
“Please, Mandel, respect yourself. I’m merely a plaything for you. What if I end up having your child? It will have no effect. Cecily can have a child if you want one.”
“How wonderful.” Regina raised her head obstinately, her eyes crimson at the bottom. “You don’t have to waste your time here. Could you please spare me?”
“How wonderful.” Regina raised her head obstinately, her eyes crimson at the bottom. “You don’t have to waste your time here. Could you please spare me?”
Mandel’s voice was uninterested. His dark gaze seemed to want to pierce her delicate skin.
Regina grinned cynically as her shoulder ached “Of course, I understand what I’m saying. Wouldn’t a woman like me sully your reputation? Do you think I’d be grateful if you helped me right now? I’m merely a plaything for you. How can anyone touch your items if you don’t speak?”
Instead of slipping into his phony tenderness, she should rip open this mask as soon as possible. But there was a flash of sadness in her heart for some reason.
“All right, Regina, you are the first to dare to challenge me in this manner.”
His grip on Regina’s body gradually relaxed, and the tremendous hostility vanished from Mandel like a wave. He returned his indifferent gaze to Regina. He strode right past her, and a huge slamming of the door slammed into Regina’s heart carelessly.
Her strength seemed to be sapped at that instant, and she fell softly down the wall. She longed to cry in the arms of her mother, the only person in the world who still loved her.
But she couldn’t do it. She didn’t even know where her mother was.
