“But that wouldn’t completely stop us.” Layton denied.
“One shot is all it takes, if your lucky you can survive two. As I said it was specially made but luckily they know nothing or we would be extinct.” Gemini never knew of this and she vowed that she would be more careful.
“I didn’t know am sorry.” Layton smiled then kissed her forehead.
“Now you see so I hope you’ll be more careful.” Gemini nodded. Layton was glad such a weapon wasn’t available but he knew it didn’t mean it wouldn’t be made again.
Francis worked all night.
“Found anything?” Eugene asked but Eugene denied.
“What if they attack someday? They must have some weakness.” Eugene said as he sat in the chair.
“Silver bullets that’s what they say in movies.” Eugene chewed on his popcorn. Francis threw his arms in the air.
“Those are movies, you idiot. This isn’t a movie.” Francis closed his eyes and thought.
The next morning Layton decided to send a few men to the crime scene just to minimize any suspension from the police. He waited patiently for the results.
Hunter was by his work point and Dakota passed by with her men. The look on her face worried him.
“News? I hope it is not that bad.” Dakota nodded giving him a handout.
“Not that good and not just bad. Our victim was a young girl and luckily the police weren’t there at that moment.” She gave him a folded paper with bloodstains.
“What is this?”
“It was left and as I said we were lucky to find it first.” Hunter knew the alpha wouldn’t like the news he was bringing. Layton was trapped in Hus’s thoughts when Hunter barged in.
“Sir we have a much bigger problem.” Layton stood up.
“What happened?” Hunter passed the alpha a piece of paper. Layton raised a brow at Hunter.
“It was left at the crime scene and thank God we found it before anyone else.” Hunter quickly unfolded the paper and read it.
Greetings Layton.
It has been a long since we met but I am not sure you know me. I am certain you saw the little present I dropped for you but mostly I heard you have a new mate and I am dying to meet her. Don’t worry I will clean up afterward.
Layton panicked, he was now certain that Gemini was not safe around the pack.
“What is this?”
“As I said it was left by the attacker, I guess it was wrong to make your new selection announced.” Layton had no time to think about it all.
“Hunter I want you to get a vehicle ready now.” Though Hunter had a lot of questions in his head he agreed to do what he was told. Gemini walked in with Antony beside her.
“Gemini gets packed, you will be leaving soon.” Gemini stared at him confused.
” Where am I going and why?”
“You’re going somewhere away from this place.” He turned to Strider.
“Another body was found.” Layton didn’t have to say much for Strider to understand the situation while Gemini was still confused.
“I will ask again why am I leaving?”
“I’ll explain everything later but now you need to get ready.” Layton rushed out and she was even more confused. She rushed to her room and packed her things. Strider walked with Layton.
“Do you know who it is?” Layton nodded.
“Not really by I may have a clue.”
“Where are you sending her?” Layton stooped by the parking spot.
“Hender. Valentine is the only one I can trust now.” Strider did remember Valentine and how open he was to everyone around him. It was a shame how Layton and Valentine weren’t that close even though they were cousins.
“I didn’t know you were still in touch,” Strider said as he had spotted the black vehicle.
“We haven’t, I just contacted him today, I wouldn’t if it wasn’t an emergency.” Strider nodded.
“Call her, she should be leaving soon.” Strider walked to Gemini’s room and knocked on her door.
“You have to get going the car is already here.” Strider assisted her with her bags and Gemini got in the back seat. She however wasn’t comfortable with leaving without Layton.
“Valentine is going to protect and keep an eye on you so just listen to whatever he says.” Layton held Gemini’s hand.
” Why can’t you just come with me?” Layton did refuse.
“If I go you will still be a target and I can’t let that happen and I have to stay here to keep an eye on things.” Gemini frowned, she didn’t know anyone there or even Valentine.
“As I said you should listen to whatever he says and do it.” Layton gave Gemini the last kiss then closed the door shut. The car drove off.
“So what are your plans?” They went back to the house.
” Am still not sure, I had a little chat with Valentine and he agreed to help for the time being.”
“Won’t she be in much danger?”
“No, she won’t, I have assigned someone to be her false mate just in case.” Strider was not in support of the plan but he knew Layton had thought of it carefully.
“It wasn’t such a great idea to pronounce your new bride.” Layton whipped his sweat off with his sleeved shirt. The heat pressured him more.
