At this time Dai Jingcheng called to ask Jiang Youyou whether she had some arrangement in the evening, if she had none, he would invite her to supper.
“I have had my supper, and I’m going to Sis Zhao’s to mourn for her, for today is her first seventh-day her afterlife. Are you going with me?”
They bought a bunch of daisy and perfume lily. Sis Zhao once had such kinds of flowers in her room. Jiang Youyou was thinking of the song the rapper sang and she swore to herself that she must never be such a silly woman.
“Why didn’t you take a taxi?” Jiang Youyou blamed. It was getting dark.
“I’m saving up for my marriage.” Dai Jingcheng smiled at Jiang Youyou. After he had made love with Jiang Youyou, Dai began to consider the woman as his personal possession. The more he looked at her, the more he felt her attractiveness.
When they found Zhao Huixin’s gravestone, it was completely dark. In her photo, Zhao Huixin had a light smile and a light sadness on her face.
Jiang Youyou put the flowers in front of the gravestone. She knelt down and began to light the suicide note.
Dai Jingcheng also burnt incense for Zhao.
“Haven’t you handed the suicide note to the police?” Dai Jingcheng gathered the scattered Mingbi (fake paper notes burned for the dead) together.
“This is a photocopy.” Jiang Youyou tried hard to open her swollen red eyes. She suffered from the blues when she thought of how Zhao Huixin took care of her and how cruel it was of the separation between the dead and the living.
Dai Jingcheng tried to comfort her, “Just let bygones be bygones. And let the secrets be buried in your memory.”
Jiang Youyou nodded and patted the mud off her knee, then said goodbye to Zhao Huixin in front of her grave.
On the bus, Jiang Youyou felt a little bit strange all along about why Dai Jingcheng wore an evasive look from the very beginning when he was burning incense and Mingbi for Zhao Huixin. He never even looked squarely at her.
Today Dai Jingcheng wanted to go to Jiang Youyou’s home. But her home was not the house he had first been to. When he first went into her house, he thought it was tidied up, though it was not very big. The bed would arouse his desire to lie down as soon as he saw it.
When they were about to arrive, Jiang Youyou heard a painful wail of a little dog, and she asked Dai Jingcheng to start the flashlight function of his mobile phone, illuminating the grass.
A three-month little yellow dog was caught in the leg by the rat trap installed by the farmer. It was howling with pain and it seemed wounded.
“Be tame and don’t move. We’re going to save you, so don’t bite.” Saying this, Dai Jingcheng crossed the ditch.
All of a sudden Jiang Youyou felt a bit moved. A man who showed love to small animals might do something bad but within limits.
With a lot of difficulties he managed to pry the rat trap-Nokia phone was really in good quality-its shell wasn’t deformed, in actual fact.
The little yellow dog had a very short coat and a very thin tail, and looked like kind of sanddog with its skin ironed.
The dog was just a hybrid variety. Dai Jingcheng said with a very certain tone. It was dirty all over and its wound stank. “Now you decide whether you would take it back or not. If you wouldn’t, I would take it to the Pet Rescue Station when I go back home later.” He said.
“I do want to keep a dog at home.” Jiang Youyou felt very excited. “Sometimes I feel afraid when staying home alone. It would be a good thing to keep a dog at home.”
So he had to take the little yellow dog upstairs. Its leg was broken by the rat trap and the white bone could be faintly seen.
Arriving at home, Jiang Youyou began to delve in the drawer for any useful tools. Because she couldn’t feel pain in her own body, she even didn’t have a first aid kit necessary for a family.
“Is there any vodka left? The vodka I brought last time when I came.” Dai Jingcheng asked Jiang Youyou and bent down to examine the little yellow dog that almost fainted in pain.
“There is half a bottle left, not mixed with orangeade. Do you want to drink some now?” Jiang Youyou was taking off some white gauze from her underwear for bandage.
“That can be used as disinfectant. Take it out quickly.” When Dai Jingcheng had breakfast at home, he read about a piece of news in a “So-and-so Times” which said there was a well-known intestinal infectious disease in New Delhi of India, which was called bloated-stomach. To prevent from catching the disease, any Indians with some money would buy and drink bottled water. And the overseas tourists visiting India learned to do the same thing. And this time when the Putin couple visited India, they made very good preparations against the disease. An assigned microbiologist was in advance team who specialized in disinfection wherever the Putin couple would go. According to the manager of New Delhi Hotel, the day before the Putin couple came to the hotel, this microbiologist carefully cleaned all tableware in the presidential suite with vodka. He first soaked the knife and fork up in vodka to “disinfect” them, then took them out by a special tool, and finally put them on a clean napkin to dry.
Although the little yellow dog was not of a precious breed, it was somehow a life.
When vodka was poured on its wounded leg, it yapped as if it were dying. Jiang Youyou poured a glass of vodka into its throat when it barked with its mouth open. Then after several barks it fell down to sleep because it was probably drunk.
“Let’s go to bed. I’ll have a bath first.” Dai Jingcheng made a dash for the bathroom, showing half of his head, “Should I save on water?”
Jiang Youyou snorted with laughter, “Get out!”
Perhaps because of the sudden arrival of this little dog, Jiang Youyou was in a better mood. Listening to the splash of water in the bathroom, the dozy bug was crawling into her nostrils and she became tired and sleepy.
Her phone rang. She immediately found that it was Xu Nuo. “Why! Wasn’t she riding high in her career and going smoothly in love affairs? How could she recall me?”
Jiang Youyou received the call, “Hello, this is Jiang Youyou. Xu Nuo, what can I do for you?”
