Cristelle hung up the phone as she carried the little girl, pulling at the boy’s hand, “I just called Drew and told him that we’re leaving our house now. He said he was preparing a big meal for us. We can eat it when we make it there.”
Drew had also told her that he had something really important to tell her. He had said that she shouldn’t be late, and his tone had been pretty serious.
Cristelle only thought of Candace. Did he find a new way to treat Candace?
Cristelle took the babies out of the house, waiting for the bus.
However, a black car suddenly pulled up on the driveway when they walked across the lane.
The car window was rolled down, revealing Mrs. Barnett’s well-maintained face. She saw that Cristelle’s children were scared.
She didn’t expect the babies to be so cute.
“Cristelle, we need to talk,” she snapped coldly.
Cristelle rolled her eyes, walking away with her babies.
“Good, I’ll follow you until you’d like to talk to me then,” the way Mrs. Barnett talked was still so condescending.
Cristelle was so pissed off that she laughed. “Then you can follow me as you want. I don’t care.”
Cristelle had read about the news. The Barnett House was on the verge of collapsing. Her lawyer had already told her that Pamela would definitely be sent to jail if Cristelle didn’t withdraw the charge.
Cristelle meant to make them pay.
“This is not worth it, Cristelle. You can’t win. You’re all alone,” Mrs. Barnett threatened her arrogantly.
“Mom, who is this old witch? She’s old and ugly. And she’s so rude,” Cody pouted, making sure Mrs. Barnett could hear his voice.
Candace also nodded in agreement, smiling at her brother as she looked at him.
Mrs. Barnett’s face fell, “An educated child will usually shut up when adults are having a conversation.”
Cody rolled his eyes, “Why can’t I talk? You’re an old witch. I’m simply telling the truth!”
An old witch?
Mrs. Barnett felt she was gonna explode, “Brat! Watch the words coming out of your mouth!”
She was yelling in the car like a madwoman, attracting passers-by’s attention.
Candace was startled. She almost cried out loud.
Cristelle hid Candace and Cody behind her, “Don’t you call my babies brats! I won’t withdraw the charge. Pamela is gonna go to jail. Your house has done too many disgusting things for so many years. You deserve it!”
“Think it again, Cristelle. Are you sure you want to make us your enemies? If you’re not a moron, you should stop right now. Or I won’t be sure if your son can return safely next time.”
Mrs. Barnett didn’t have any respect for Cristelle. She thought Cristelle was just a broken whore raising up her bastards. She thought Cristelle couldn’t shake her family.
They wouldn’t have lost this time if it were not for Linford Bradley. Destroying this whore was as simple as booting an ant.
“Hey! Old Witch, are you threatening us? Watch your mouth, or you’ll be doomed if other people get to hear it,” Cody warned her with a straight face.
“Humph! I don’t care if anyone hears it. Listen up, little brat. Your mom is just a slut who slept around to conceive you two. She doesn’t even know who your father is. Why would I be scared of a whore like her?”
Mrs. Barnett’s words were full of contempt. She talked about Cristelle as if she was not human but a dog.
Cristelle was furious.
She had tried so hard to forget that night. But this woman just brought it up again.
She couldn’t understand why humans like Mrs. Barnett existed in this world.
When you were rich, they would show up to suck up to you like a bunch of lap dogs.
But when you fell from grace, they would stomp on your body, insulting you as if you once did them so wrong.
Cristelle could only feel lucky that she had seen through these people’s true faces. She wouldn’t let them get what they wanted!
“You can shut up about it. I wouldn’t have my two babies if you didn’t frame me. They’re my biggest treasures in this world. I actually need to thank you for that.”
Mrs. Barnett laughed as if what Cristelle said was only a funny joke, “Treasures? They’re your burdens. Stop pretending that you’re happy. You’re pathetic. Luckily, my son never married you. You’re just like your father. You’re nothing but a piece of trash.”
Father?!!
Cristelle’s eyes widened as she felt a dull pain in her chest. Her father had had a third wheel and ruined her family. He had given everything to that woman.
Cristelle would never forgive him.
She didn’t even want to mention him.
Mrs. Barnett was trying everything she could to break her.
“I don’t have a father like that. But I remember you were one of his lapping dogs, weren’t you? He was not a good person, but you’re just a dog. Look at what happened to your family. It’s called karma.”
“Who… Who are you calling a dog?” Mrs. Barnett had never been insulted like this. Her face went pale.
“You, old witch! If you don’t shut up, I’ll send the recording to the police! And we will charge you for your threat!” Cody waved his phone, “Everything you just said is on my phone right now.”
“What? You recorded what I said? Give me the phone!” Mrs. Barnett screamed as she jumped off the car.
“Hello? Why did you only pick up right now? Did you even see my messages, Mr. Bradley?” Drew’s long fingers tapped impatiently against his steering wheel. The traffic was heavy. He was stuck on the road.
Cody hadn’t recorded anything. He had been calling Drew. But Drew had recorded the phone call anyway.
He knew something had gone wrong when the call had been hung up.
“What’s wrong?” Linford was dealing with a really important file.
Drew complained, “I knew you didn’t read my messages at all! Why do you even keep a phone if you’re not gonna use it?”
Linford was a bit speechless, “I’m hanging up if there’s nothing else.”
“Wait! Cristelle is in trouble. You need to go!”
