The conversation was going on well.
However, the housekeeper suddenly showed up, whispering something into Mrs. Barnett’s ear.
Mrs. Barnett’s face fell immediately as she gave Pamela a harsh stare.
Pamela went a bit panicked. Before she could figure out what was happening, a couple of police officers suddenly walked into the garden.
“How… How could you let them come in?” Mrs. Barnett exclaimed.
Pamela also stood up from her seat, “What is happening?”
Mrs. Barnett could only smile at other ladies, “Excuse us. Something just went wrong in the house. I probably need to take care of it for now.”
Pamela was so confused. She didn’t even know what she should say. Clara was the one who first stood up, “I can see you guys are busy. I don’t think it’s appropriate for us to bother you and Pamela any longer. Goodbye.”
Other ladies also said their goodbyes when Clara decided to leave. Mrs. Barnett only felt humiliated.
This Pamela had ruined everything!
Mrs. Barnett brought the housekeeper and Pamela to the living hall to meet the police officers.
“Officer, there must be something wrong. We have never committed any crimes. Did you get the wrong person? Besides, you should at least tell us before you break into my property. How can you be so disrespectful to our legal rights?”
Mrs. Barnett felt humiliated about being taken away from other ladies, trying to take it out on the police.
One of the police officers only gave the old woman a cold look, “Someone charges Pamela for buying a murderer to kidnap and kill a little boy. Besides, we informed your house days ago. But your house refused to cooperate. That’s why we came this time with a warrant.”
A warrant?
Guess it’s really something serious, then.
Pamela went pale as if she was gonna faint. Why would that happen? Who dared these people?
Mrs. Barnett also noticed the seriousness of the whole thing. But she didn’t know what was happening. Thus, she still didn’t drop her attitude, “You’d better explain everything to me. Who are you accusing of being a murderer? Do you even have any evidence?”
Mrs. Barnett had done a couple of illegal things before. But she was sure she didn’t leave any evidence behind. She was not afraid of anyone.
One of the officers put down a file on the table, “These are the materials we’ve collected. What Pamela did broke the law. We’re just here to do our jobs.”
Mrs. Barnett looked at the materials in disbelief. She whipped around to stare at Pamela, “What the heck is this, Pamela? Did you really do that?”
Pamela looked like she couldn’t even breathe, her forehead covered in a fine film of sweat, “No! I didn’t do that!” I’ve never done that.”
One of the police officers already put out a pair of handcuffs at her, “You can explain everything to us when you come back with us, Pamela.”
“I’m not going! I’m not going with you! You have absolutely no right to do this!! I need my lawyer! None of you can get away with this when my lawyer’s here!” Pamela refused to go.
“Then, don’t blame us for this. Paul, take her away,” one of the police officers ordered. The other just pinned Pamela down.
“Wait! Are you serious? You can’t take her away before our lawyer arrives!” Mrs. Barnett sent a couple of servants to stop them.
“Mrs. Barnett, please don’t stand in our way. It’s breaking the law,” One police officer regarded the old woman coldly, “Your lawyer is welcome to go to the police station. If you refuse to let us go, we have no choice but to use our guns.”
Mrs. Barnett grew weak when she heard “guns.”
If other houses knew about the scandal, the honor of the family she struggled to build up would evaporate.
Mrs. Barnett had no choice but to let them go.
“Please! Please! You can’t let them take me away! I am your son’s wife! I’ve done nothing wrong! It’s all because of Cristelle! It’s all because of that bitch!” Pamela yelled to Mrs. Barnett when she was taken away, hoping Mrs. Barnett would help her.
Mrs. Barnett was exhausted. She couldn’t recover from it.
What had happened today wouldn’t be canceled by those rich ladies. The honor of the house was going to collapse.
Mrs. Barnett called her son, “Diego, I need you in the house. The police took your wife away.”
Diego was filled in on his way back.
He hated Pamela even more after hearing the whole story.
What was wrong with that stupid woman? How could she do something like that? She left all the evidence and got caught by the police. The Barnett house would lose everything to save her!
What a stupid whore!
Why couldn’t she just leave Cristelle alone? She even kidnapped the boy!
“Diego, what should we do now?” Mrs. Barnett went completely panicked the moment she saw her son, “Those people took Pamela away without saying anything. They did it before everyone! Pamela ruined our reputation.”
Diego comforted the old woman and made her sit on the couch, “Mom, please calm down. I’ve sent the lawyer. Maybe it’s just a mistake. Pamela can’t really kidnap anyone, can she?”
Mrs. Barnett knew her son was only trying to comfort her. She could only sigh, “What mistake? When I saw Cristelle’s news, I wondered why Cyrus would be so bold to go to Bradley’s company. I should’ve expected Pamela to have been supporting him secretly.”
Diego’s face fell, “How did Cyrus and Pamela get to know each other?”
Mrs. Barnett went rigid, changing the topic as fast as she could, “Why… Why would I know? The most important thing right now is to protect our reputation. But your father is away right now. I think we still need to find Cristelle first.”
Diego didn’t like the idea. He has made up his mind to stay away. But now he needed to see her again.
“I know how to handle this, Mon. You don’t need to worry about it. I’m going to the police first. You need to take some rest, okay?”
