Fourteen
– Daniel King’s POV –
“Hey…” I heard a soft voice behind me. I was tidying my things when I look over my shoulder. Hannah was standing behind me with a small smile.
“Hey.” I replied as I zip my backpack and put the straps on my shoulder before turning to her.
She looks down when our eyes meet as she put her hands together, “Can we talk? Please?” She sounded like she was hesitating.
I exhaled. Her voice sounded like she was begging. Don’t be like that. It’s hurting me. I don’t want her to be like that.
I went closer to her, closing the gap between us. Our face are so close to each that the tip of our noses touch and I could feel her rapid warm breath. She was still looking at her fingers as she smiled. I gently hold her hand and caress it with my thumb. Her palms are cold.
“I’m sorry. We’ll talk about it.” My voice was deep and serious.
A charming smile flashed in her face as she hold back my hand tighter. I tiptoe to reach her forehead and planted a kiss on it.
Yes, I need to stand on my tiptoe to reach her forehead because she’s an inch taller than I. She’s 5’7 and I’m 5’6.
She surpasses a giggle as her cheeks flush and she tighten her hold on my hand. It sends sparks to me every time I feel I had that kind of effect to her. Her smile is everything.
I wanted to stay that way. I feel relax and comfortable. And even when I’m uneasy, I don’t know why I suddenly feel calm. My troubles suddenly went away.
Unexpectedly, my head was pushed and my lips bump to her. It sends electricity to my body that I don’t understand. We both quickly pushed each other and stared in shock. Her eyes widen as her lips parted. I froze and my heart race as I tried to sink it in my mind.
I hear a loud laugh which is so annoying that it caught my attention. I moved my gaze and it landed at Sanchez and his friends. They were all hysterically laughing while holding their stomachs. I threw them a dead glare but they didn’t bother to mind it.
“You better get yourselves a room because this is a public school.” Sanchez remarked in his mocking tone. And his company laugh out loud.
I was about to charge at him and smack his face when Hannah grabbed my hand and pulled me closer to her, but my glare was still at him.
“Don’t. He’s not worth it.” She whispered as she pulled me to walk.
But before I could take a step, I pushed her away from me and quickly charge at him. I pulled his collar the moment I was close to him. You are so dead.
“First you took my card, second you disrespect me and now, I won’t let you make the third one.” I said in gritted teeth. Stabbing him through my glare.
He gave me a mocking smirk while staring straight at my eyes. He doesn’t seem to be moved.
I heard footsteps running towards us and the next moment, Hannah appeared beside me, holding my fist.
“Please don’t.” She begged.
But her voice doesn’t seem get in me. My anger is getting the best of me.
“And oh!” He exclaimed as he glanced at Hannah, “About your card. Perhaps, De Vera has something to say about it.” He stated in his so annoying tone.
I saw from the corner of my eye, she glared at him as her jaw clenched.
He turned his eyes at her and he smirked, “You have it, right, De Vera? Or was it Brickson who have it?”
His mocking tone is pissing me off.
“You better get your facts straight before accusing, Sanchez.” She emphasize every word she said in gritted teeth.
He laughed in a mocking tone. So annoying in my ears that I wanted to break his neck so bad. My grip on his collar is tightening. Like I’m about to rip off his uniform.
“Hey, it’s not worth it.” I saw a glimpse of her face, looking so worried at me. Her soft voice is making my temper calm.
I loosen his collar and step back. But I’m still glaring at his mocking smirk. How I wanted to smack his face until it bleeds but I guess, Hannah’s effect in me is stronger than my anger.
“Let’s go.” She said as she pulled my arm to walked.
Since she had my arm, I have no choice but to walk. All eyes are on us the moment we got to the hallway. My eyebrows met as I glanced at ourselves, wondering what were this people starting at. I smirk when I saw her arms. She wrapped her arms around mine in the entire time while we are passing by at the hallway. That explains why all eyes are on us. Most especially the boys, they were all glaring at me like god knows what is running dangerous in their minds.
You know, Hannah is so popular in school. Most of the boys asked her on a date but they failed to get her. That is why their looks at me could almost kill me.
“Sorry boys. I got her.” I mumbled in a playful tone.
I heard her giggled as she covered her mouth with her hand.
We went straight to the Takoyaki stall where we bought Takoyaki before. After we sat at the usual bench where we chatted.
“I love this feeling.” She murmured as she was staring at me.
I turned to look at her, holding back a smile. She was looking away but smiling so wide.
“The feeling that I have every time I’m with you.” Her voice was so low and its like a music to my ears. Like my favorite song that I could play over and over again, without getting used to it.
I chuckled as I moved closer to her. Closing our gaps. She was widely grinning like her face is about to be thorn. I admit it, her smile sends unusually feeling down to my veins. But I kind of like it. It makes me smile with no ending.
I cleared my throat to make my voice serious, “Do you consider us as a couple, Hannah?”
She quickly turned to look at me as she raised her eyebrows and her lips parted. Her cheeks also turned reddish.
I mean to be serious but her reaction made me smile. She blinked as she lightly bit her lower lip before looking down.
“What do you think?” She shyly said and she moved her eyes up to look at my eyes.
I grinned, “It think, no.”
She lifted her head and narrowed her eyes at me, “What? Why?” She sounded like complaining.
I smirked at her reaction, “Because I consider you as my wife and the mother of my future kids.”
In that instant, she giggled as her cheeks flush. She tried to hold it back but she can’t keep herself from smiling.
I chuckled. She had the most beautiful smile that I can never resist. There is something in her smile that invites me to touch and hold her. But something from the back of my mind is preventing it.
“I love you, Hannah.” My voice was deep and serious.
Her mood suddenly change. I thought she would be happy to hear what I feel for her but it turned out to be different from what I expected. Her sweet smile was slowly fading and it was replace by a sad one, before she looked down. She’s trying to hide her weird reaction.
“Until when?” She mumbled. The sound of her voice is hurting me.
“As long as I breath.” I answered in a deep genuine tone.
She automatically looked straight to my eyes. She lightly bit her lower lip as she responded with a small smile.
“Hey, son. Your tuxedo just arrived.” I heard grandpa’s voice from the living room, the moment I entered the house.
I sprinted to them. I was so excited to see it. Mom and grandpa were eating noodles while watching a movie in the living room.
“Where?” I blurted, just as I arrived in front of mom and grandpa.
Mom pointed the white squared box on the top of the small table with her finger. I followed it with my eyes and without asking any further, I grab it and sat next to grandpa.
I immediately open it. My mouth was about to drop and my eyes was widened when I saw it. I softly travel my fingers on it as my mind was still amazed.
“Can I try it mom?” I can’t hold back my excitement.
Mom nodded with a smile, “Go ahead.”
I quickly ran to my room. I can wait to try and see how it looks to me. This is what we are going to wear on our performance in P. E. for tomorrow. And this will be the 2nd time that I’m going to wear a tuxedo. Well, the first was during our JS prom that I don’t want to remember.
I immediately threw my backpack and my books on the bed. But the books that I threw on the bed fell on the ground. Really? These books are interrupting my excitement.
I went to pick it but I was stunned on what I saw. There’s a white rectangular paper that was stuck between the pages of a certain book and it came off when it fell.
My palms turned cold and my heart was pounding when I pick the book. I pulled out the rectangular paper that stuck in the book. There were two of it and in my surprise, my eyes widen.
My name was written on it and also my grades. Is it my lost report card? And the other one…
“De Vera, Hannah Mae G. ?” I read her name through my mouth, even though my lips were little trembling.
How did it came here? I swallowed as I tried to recall what happened this day. Like a flash, I remember taking her Science textbook.
No way… I shake my head as I could almost hear my heart pounding. So loud that it would explode in any minute by now.
I breath through my mouth before flipping the book. My hands are shaking when I saw a name at the bottom of the book.
‘Hannah Mae G. De Vera’
