JACE’S P. O. V.
I can’t believe we are presenting this to my mom. It is insane, but here it is. I am letting Eli do all the talking, only because he is older so it sounds smarter coming from him and hell it’s his idea.
“Aunt Jas, I know that you have a really big heart and all but this is no time to be soft. I have a very big suspicion that Alpha Mateo is the one that took Lila. I think we should send an ambassador to scent her out. If my suspicion is correct then I will scent her on him.”
She leans back with my dad in the seat next to her. Yeah, we weren’t getting out of him being here. “So you are suggesting that I send you, who is not even a member of this pack, my nephew, into the most dangerous pack in the territory, to see if you can scent my daughter on a hunch.”
“Not a hunch, an educated guess.” Eli stands his ground.
Dad looks at me, “What do you think, son?”
“I think Eli may be right. We can even invite him here and see if we can scent her that way. All the other packs have given us free rein in their packs, not him he won’t let us in his compound. He wasn’t invited to the birthday party. It makes sense if we think it was her mate that took her. That is still what we think right?”
I fidget a little and look at my dad. He nods. “It does make sense. Christian and I looked over the lists from the party and none of the pack members from his pack were invited. There are a few from other packs that we could do the same thing with, but the most prominent is Moonridge.”
My mom looks shocked. “I extended an invitation to Alpha Mateo when we talked. If it was him that took her, don’t you think he would have brought her back after that?”
Dad looks over at her with a soft look. “Darlin’ I know you like to think the best of people, but if he took her he isn’t just going to hand her back over like that. He’s going to want to make sure she is his before he lets her go anywhere. He’s going to want to claim her or at the very least be sure that she recognizes the bond. Wolves are territorial. He isn’t really going to want her out of his sight if he can help it.”
“I get that, but this seems a bit much. He seemed really nice when I talked to him. I don’t think he would do this.” My mom really needs to open her eyes.
“Christian and I agree that it could be. We can even confer with Hunter and Jay and see what they say. But I am telling you that this is the most logical choice. If not the Alpha then maybe his Beta. Whichever, I am pretty sure she is in that compound.” My dad seems to regret saying this. He doesn’t like to disagree with mom, but he’s right.
She sighs, “Fine, I’ll put in a call to the Alpha and see if we can arrange something. You pick the team, if we are sending wolves I want the best. It will have to be a joined pack meeting so that way it doesn’t look weird with Eli being there. This just better not go sideways. I do not want to go to war with Moonridge.”
I watch as my mom leans forward and dials up the Alpha. She has it on speaker so that we can all hear. A male voice answers. It’s really hard to hear him, he must be in an area where something is going on. “This is Ash, Beta of Moonridge. How can I help you?”
“This is Luna Jasmine again, is there a way that I could speak to Alpha Mateo again please.”
More screaming, or yelling. Not really sure what is going on, but it doesn’t sound good. “I’m afraid that is really not possible right now. We are having a situation in the pack at the moment.” He pauses for a second. “Shit. Sorry.” The call ends.
Mom looks confused, “What the hell was going on?”
Dad looks concerned. “It sounded like a fight. Like a challenge. Or a fight where there are a bunch of spectators. From the end of the talk I would say that the Beta did not like how that fight was turning out.”
Mom looks at all of us. “Well, what do we do now?”
Eli takes command. “I say we still put the party together. Ask the wolves that you send to his land to sniff out what that fight was about. Tomorrow we will try again, if we don’t have news today.”
Dad looks satisfied. “Sounds like a good plan. I’ll get your father, Jay and Hunter in here as well. Honestly I think I already have a team in mind.”
Mom seems to know what he is thinking so she just nods. “I already told Jay, he’s on his way.” Makes sense, since she is the only one that can link him.
So we are really doing this. We are sending a team of wolves to the most vicious pack in the territory.
