Chapter 2- Tall, Dark and Handsome
We pull into the club parking lot as I am finishing up. When we all climb out of the car I look around for my dad, waiting for him to jump out at me any second. We made it to the line in front of the door without my dad coming at me. As soon as we hit the bouncer, I am feeling a bit relieved, if my dad hasn’t shown up yet then he probably isn’t going to. He checks our IDs and stamps our hands. The stamps are UV. You don’t know what they are unless they check them. If you are of drinking age you get a bracelet and a special stamp. If you are underage you only get a different stamp. It makes it really hard to get a drink here.
Thankfully we aren’t here to drink, just have fun. We all rush to the dance floor. Five girls like us on the dance floor do not go unnoticed. Before we are there for five minutes we are all joined by partners. Not a problem here, it’s not like we plan on dating any of them. Hell, Emma already has a mate. He won’t be pleased when she gets home and smells like a few human males, but she knows how to deal with him. We are all relatively attractive. Mak is the prettiest by far with her caramel complexion and wavy black hair. Syd has a curvy body that doesn’t ever fail to make the guys gawk. Her hair is a bit shorter but in that cute blond bob it fits her. Hannah has straight red hair. Her eyes are green like mine, but not as emerald. Emma is more the motherly type, but the hot mom kind.
We have been here for quite some time when I am joined by tall, dark and handsome. That is the only way to describe him. I can also tell that he is a werewolf too. He has black hair that is a little shaggy, dark brown eyes that in this light look almost black. His skin is really tan. Plus he is dressed all in black.
When his hands meet my hips and his body shakes with mine, I melt into his movements. He is wearing one of their bracelets so he is older than us by a little at least, but I can tell that he isn’t much older. I know he isn’t from our pack either, I would definitely have remembered him. Dancing with him feels natural. Shit it shouldn’t feel this good. I can feel his breath on the back of my neck when he leans in closer. I have to take a break, this is just too much.
I break away from him and head to the bar to order water. The bartender passes it over and I turn to see him right behind me. “Um, hey.” What do I say to this guy?
He smiles. “Hey, you.” He leans around me and knocks on the bar, getting the bartender’s attention. He comes over. “Can I get a coke?” The bartender nods and leaves this side of the bar to fetch the drink.
He is still leaning close to me, but there is a way for me to get around him. It takes me a minute to register this and move away from him. As soon as I move to the side of him, his arm meets my waist. “And where is my dance partner going?” He says it in my ear.
“We aren’t dancing now.” I point out. I try to step away.
“I thought we could get to know each other.” He isn’t letting go.
“Why?” I look up into those gorgeous brown eyes.
He smiles down at me. “Why not?” The bartender returns with his drink. He passes over some money and then pulls me to a table.
I take a seat at the table and crack open my water. After a good drink I set it on the table. “What do you want to know?”
He chuckles. “How about your name?”
“Lila, what’s yours?”
“Mateo. What pack are you from?” He leans back in his seat and crosses his legs.
“Black Forest. I know you are from a different pack, what is yours?”
He smirks. “What makes you so sure I am from a different pack?”
“I know all the wolves in my pack and I certainly would have remembered you.” I smile at him.
“You got me. I am from Moonridge.” He looks away from me a little bit when he says it.
“That pack up north?” I am confused as to what he is doing down here.
“Yeah, I was passing through on business and decided to stop by. I heard that the Alpha’s daughter is having a birthday celebration soon. That sounds like it will be fun.”
I shrug my shoulders. “Yeah, I guess. It’s just a big thing to find her mate. I think it will be way too formal. Not really my thing.” Yeah, so what, I don’t want to tell this guy that I am the Alpha’s daughter.
He leans forward real quick and accidentally spills my water. He catches it, but I have to grab some napkins to keep it from spilling all over the table. “Sorry about that, there was a fly or something on your dress.” He helps me clean up the mess. He seems sincere.
After we are done we sit back in the seats. “Well, that was exciting. But let’s not spill anymore of my water, k.”
He smiles. “Not a drop. So how old are you?”
“Seventeen. I really should be keeping my distance from you. You are able to drink. That means I am jailbait.” I smirk.
“When are you turning eighteen?” He leans forward on the table.
“In a week.”
“I doubt a court will convict me. Plus you know wolves don’t care so much about that. They need mates.”
“Well we don’t find ours until we are eighteen. So I think that puts you out of luck.” I take a drink of my water.
“This week it would seem. Maybe next week.” He leans back in his seat again. He even gives me a wink.
“Well, now that we have established that I am out of your reach, maybe we should go our separate ways.”
He waves it off. “Nothing says that we can’t get to know each other.”
“And why would you want to get to know me?” I lean forward and place my hand on my chin.
“Who wouldn’t want to get to know you?” He meets my stance.
I smile and take another drink of my water. A big drink this time, finishing off the bottle. “Well, as charming as you are, I came here to dance.”
“Five minutes.” God he still looks so hot.
I roll my eyes. “Fine, five minutes.”
“Are your friends going to miss you terribly?”
“Oh, probably. Either that or my dad will show up any minute and rip me out. At least he hasn’t yet.”
“Your dad is overprotective?”
“They both are.” I laugh.
“Oh, I see you are adopted.”
“No, it’s a very long story.” I suddenly start to feel a little dizzy. I hold my head. “Sorry, I’m not feeling so well. Maybe it’s too hot in here.”
He reaches over and touches my head. “You seem alright, maybe we should take you to the bathroom and get some cold water on your head.”
I just nod. He takes my hand and leads me towards the bathrooms. Of course there are like a million people in line. Mateo points to the back door. “We could get you some fresh air.” I feel even worse so I nod again. Now I am leaning on him. I don’t even know this guy and he is leading me outside. I probably shouldn’t be doing this.
Once we are outside I lean against the wall. I wave him off. “I’m sure I’ll be fine. I just need a few minutes.”
He stands there looking at me. “Are you sure? You look a little pale.”
Then it all goes black.
