LARA.
“You can always run, but not forever, Lara. My baby will always be my baby and when the time is right, I’ll come back to claim it.” I read the text over and over again, and the more I read it, the more I got scared. Damien wasn’t trying to blackmail me, was he?
My head ached a bit as I went through the message once again in the bathroom. Letting out a sigh, I decided to call Beth to tell her about it before I start to think of what step I would take next. I dialed her number and she picked up the call on the third ring. “Beth, I need to talk you urgently about something. You need to see this text I got from an unknown person.” I said to her immediately she picked up.
“Uhm, what did the message say?” She asked me.
“It’s about the baby,” I said and sighed. “I think Damien sent it.” I didn’t hear Beth say anything for a couple of seconds, which made me to speak again. “Are you there, Beth?”
“Yes.”
“Then, why aren’t you answering?” I asked her with raised eyebrows, despite knowing she couldn’t see me.
“I was just wondering why you never told me Damien knew about the baby. He knew and you still decided to pin it on someone else. Didn’t you think this through?” She asked.
I rolled my eyes. Beth was at it again, trying to make it sound like I didn’t know what decision I had made initially. She tried to make me feel guilty about it again. “I thought about it, Beth, and I also told you about it then and you supported it. Why is the blame on me now, uh? Are you trying to make me regret telling you about it?” I asked her, raising my voice a bit in the process.
“I’m only asking you, Lara. You never told me about Damien being aware of the pregnancy in the first place. If you did, I wouldn’t have supported you in your decision. Besides, I didn’t completely accept your decision. I was just being supportive of you.” She replied.
The way she said those words pissed me off a bit, but I tried to ward it off. Beth was always like that. Acting like she was the perfect one.
“Maybe I shouldn’t have called to tell you in the first place,” I retorted. “I’ll figure it out myself.”
I heard her scoff. “You always do. You only tell me about your decisions after you’ve made them.” She said.
“Fine then. Have a nice day,” I said and hung up the call immediately. “If she isn’t ready to help me, I’d do it all by myself.” I muttered to myself and sighed before walking out of the bathroom. I needed to do something, and I needed to do it quite fast.
I returned to the dining room, and Luca and Tony were still there. I noticed that they were discussing before I walked in, but as soon as I did, they both stopped talking. I was smart enough to tell that they were either talking about something they didn’t want me to hear, or about me. I guessed it was the former, but I was going to trouble them either ways.
“I can bet you two were talking about me. See the look on your faces when you saw me.” I said and dragged a chair closer to me to have my seat.
“Why would he even be discussing about you? We have other important things to do than that, Lara.” Luca replied nonchalantly, and I glared at him.
Then I turned to face him. “Speaking about other important things, when are you moving? I was saying you aren’t giving us the privacy we need.” I said to him and he rolled his eyes.
“The house belongs to my brother. I can choose to leave if I want to, or not. But here I am and I don’t choose to leave. You aren’t staying here by the way, I wonder why you’re this bothered about my wellbeing.” He said and scoffed.
“You two behave like something I don’t know. Cat and rat.” Tony said and chuckled lightly before standing up from the dining and walking to the sitting room.
“What were you two discussing about?” I asked Tony, following him to the sitting room.
“Uh, why? We were discussing some brother issues that needed to be sorted out. Why did you ask?” He asked me, although his attention was on the television.
“Was just curious.” I replied and he nodded. After some minutes of silence, I decided to bring up a discussion with him, and I noticed the question I asked took him aback. “What do you think about Beth?” I suddenly asked.
He turned to face me slowly with a confused look on his face. I could tell that he was wondering why I had asked him that, and what his business was, for me to ask him that sort of question. I didn’t mind anyways.
“Uh, what?” He said.
“What do you think about Beth? Her personality and all of that. Ever since you’ve known her as my friend.” I repeated, trying to explain what I meant to him.
“Err… she’s friendly, I guess, and cool, maybe?” He said, making it sound like a question as he stared at me. “Why are you asking me that?”
I shrugged and shook my head. “Nothing. I only wanted to know your view about her.”
“Well, that’s my view.” He said and turned his face back to the television he was watching.
“Don’t you think she tries to sound like she’s the better one?” I asked him again. I could hear him let out a sigh, probably due to the question I asked or something else. I didn’t mind. I just needed to see if we had the same view and she was the different one, or if they had the same view and I was the weird one.
“Where’s that coming from? What do you mean, by better one?” He asked me.
“Many times she speaks like I am too saucy and she’s the better girl. I’ve told her many times that I have my life to live just like she has hers, but she makes it sound like she’s the perfect one.” I said and paused, thinking about all our recent arguments. “I mean, think about it. If she were just like she speaks to be, she wouldn’t have a baby without knowing the father of the child, would she?”
“Lara.” Tony called, immediately he heard what I had just said. I noticed a stern look on his face as he stared at me.
“What? I didn’t say anything wrong, did I?” I questioned.
“Yes, you did.” He retorted, making both of us stare at each other.
