Chapter 84
“Where are you coming from?” Bryan asked the moment Lyra came down from her car. He had been outside the house waiting for her to come back home.
“From work, where else?” Lyra replied as she moved closer to him to place a kiss on his lips but he drew back
Lyra furrowed her brows “What’s going on?” She asked
“I ask you again Lyra, where the hell are you coming from?” Bryan practically screamed, causing Lyra’s face to darken.
He knew, he knew she had gone to see Bruce, but how? She wondered
“You went over to see Bruce, right?” He growled in anger. Lyra peeped into the house. There was no one in the living room so she sighed in relief. She wouldn’t want her children to hear her and Bryan argue again.
“Bryan calm down. I had only gone to speak with him”
“You even dare admit it” he pulled her by the arm when she was about to walk inside
“Bryan” she whined in pain “You’re hurting me”
Bryan ignored her and pulled her to him
“I warned you about him and his useless son and you had the guts to go to a restaurant with him”
“First of all, don’t you dare call Ryan useless. Secondly, you have no right to control my life! I get to see whoever it is I want to see” she spat in anger before pulling her arm from Bryan’s grip which hurt a lot but she didn’t mind it. She walked into the house and straight to her room when she noticed that Bryan was following behind
“Lyra, do not try my patience,” he said as he fastened his steps to meet with her.
Lyra enters the room angrily, Bryan seems to have forgotten that there are children in the house and she doesn’t want them to hear them fight.
“Bryan, you seem to have forgotten that the kids are home. I do not want them thinking that we fight all the time” she tried to reason with him as she dropped her bag on the bed
“I do not care what your kids think about us. Are you insane to go and meet with Bruce after I asked you to stay away?” He yelled ignoring her warning to keep their voice down.
Lyra was fuming in anger because of his statement to her.
“What’s the meaning of this?” She asked, pissed already.
“So the kids are now mine and no longer yours, Bryan? Is this how you see it? Just because I decided to see Bruce to discuss important issues about our children-”
“What the hell were you discussing that took you more than an hour before coming out of that place, huh?” He yelled.
Lyra froze, she narrowed her eyes at him as she moved closer to him
“Were you following me?”
“Why? What if I did?” He asked. “What if I followed you? This is the reason I followed you! You dare go and see an unmarried man”
Lyra raised her voice at him “Can you listen to yourself at all? Look what insecurity has done to you! Instead of you being in the office working, you decided that you want to tail your girlfriend because you do not trust her!”
“How can I trust you when you are doing everything possible to make sure Bruce comes into this house?” Bryan yelled back
“I did it for the kids!”
“Oh spare me the rubbish, Lyra. You did what for the kids? You think I don’t see the look you give to him whenever he is around?”
“What? What are you talking about, Bryan?”
“Now that your sister had broken his heart, tell me the truth that you don’t wish to run right into his arms already”
Lyra stood there staring at the man before her. She was breathing hard from the argument, her eyes were red and teary. She watched as he moved from where he stood to the wardrobe. He picked up something and entered the bathroom still angry.
Immediately the door closed, her tears slipped down from her eyes.
Bryan didn’t trust her, he still doesn’t get that she now loves him and not Bruce. She was heartbroken, she moved to sit on the bed as she stared into space.
Why does her day have to be this sour? First, Bruce had annoyed her by spitting out rubbish, and now Bryan was doing the same.
Why does Bryan not seem to care about his children? Here she was trying to do everything possible to make them happy but Bryan doesn’t care. All he could think of was how she should stay away from Bruce.
At least, she could see that Bruce was doing his best for his son. He was giving him the time he should have. He even dropped his pride to come to speak to her about Ryan coming around sometimes. He was a good father that would do anything for his child.
But Bryan had never once wanted to spend some time with his kids. They’ve never really had a father and children time as Ryan and Bruce do. Bryan doesn’t even care about bonding with his children.
Doesn’t he care about his children’s happiness? They want Ryan around, can’t he ignore Bruce and let them be? If jealousy and insecurity hadn’t clouded his head, she would have suggested he goes to drop them and pick them up instead.
But she knows that it wouldn’t take long for Bryan and Bruce to engage in a fight.
She sighed before cleaning her eyes. She stood up and made her way downstairs to the kitchen.
She met Tia in the kitchen preparing their dinner. She moved closer and took the Vegetables to wash them
“Congratulations”
“Ahhhh Lyra. I didn’t know you had come. When did you get home?” She asked with a broad smile
“A few minutes ago. How do you feel?”
Tia blushed before finally saying
“Gosh, I’m sooooooo happy Lyra. It’s like a dream come true, babe. He took me to a garden and there he proposed with just the both of us there”
“Awwwwn” Lyra hugged Tia who couldn’t help the grin from displaying wide on her face
“I’m so happy for you, Tia”
“Me too” Tia replied. “I’ve always wanted someone that could understand me enough and Henri happens to be the one. He even proposed in a quiet area knowing that I do not like crowded places”
Lyra nodded “True, Henri seems to know almost everything about you”
Tia nodded with a smile. After a while she asked
“How was your meeting with Bruce?” Tia whispered. Lyra shook her head when she saw Tia’s behavior just now.
“You don’t have to whisper. He knows already”
Tia’s eyes widened “How? Did you.., you know it won’t end well. Why did you tell him?”
“I didn’t, Tia,” Lyra replied with a sad smile. “He followed me”
This statement made Tia frown “Bryan followed you? Is that how he follows you everywhere you go?”
Lyra shook her head before dropping the knife she was using to cut the vegetables
“I don’t know, Tia but I don’t like it one bit that he followed me. I just don’t want to argue with him but his insecurity is making him do crazy things” Lyra said in a sad tone
“Did you both fight again?” Tia asked when she saw the look on Lyra’s face. Her heart broke for her friend, Lyra has been going through a lot because of this issue with Ryan.
While the kids want to be with each other, Bryan doesn’t want to see Ryan anywhere near them.
As Lyra wanted to explain, the children came running in. She turned her eyes away to face the sink as she cleaned her tears so that the kids won’t see them
“Mommy, you’re home and didn’t come to us. We were in our room” Miley said
“I’m sorry baby, I had to follow your aunt to prepare dinner first” she turned to face them
“Why are your eyes red?” Miles asked the moment she turned to face them. He was a very observant child so it was difficult to hide something like that from him
“Your mother just chopped some onions” Tia explained which the children believed
“Mom, we are angry at you,” Miley said with a frown on her face.
“Me?” Lyra asked in surprise
“Yes. Not just me but Miles also. We are both angry at you”
“But why?” She asked as she looked at both kids that had deep frowns on their faces.
“We just finished speaking with Ryan now. He said he had always wanted to come. He’ll call you to ask if he could come but you always refuse”
“We found out that you have been lying, mummy,” Miles said as he stomped his feet to the ground. He was pissed
“You said that it was bad to lie yet you lie” his eyes began to water
“You lied to us and you lied to Ryan too”
Lyra’s felt like she was stabbed as she watched her children cry because she wanted to protect her relationship with her boyfriend
“You lied to Ryan that we weren’t around and you also lied to us that Ryan wasn’t around. Why mommy, why?”
“Do you hate Ryan as daddy does?” Miley asked, causing both Lyra and Tia to freeze.
Lyra who couldn’t take their cry anymore, she pulled them into her embrace
“I’m sorry, I’m sorry. It won’t happen again” she cried along with her kids
