Chapter 83
Lyra was driving when she received a call from Tia. She picked it up before placing the call on speaker
“He proposed!” She screamed before Lyra could even say hello. Tia was super excited that she couldn’t help it
“Ahhhhh!!!” Lyra screamed. That was one good news she has been longing to hear. She quickly parked her car by the side of the road
“Gezzzz… Tia, I’m so happy for you!” She exclaimed. She wanted to jump and shout at the top of her lung from happiness
“Congratulations,” she said to Tia who kept laughing and giving Lyra the gist of how everything happened. Lyra continued to drive as she listened to Tia’s gossip
“I can’t wait for you to come home so I just have to start the story from now till you get home. Where are you already?” She asked, so eager to explain how everything happened to Lyra face to face.
Lyra looked at the time, it was 4:30 pm. She said to Tia
“Actually, I’m not coming home just yet. I still have to see Bruce today. I told you I’ll be meeting with him right?”
“Oh right, that’s true. I forgot. Come home on time, okay?”
“I will,” Lyra said. When she wanted to end the call, she heard Tia say again
“Please, consider Ryan. The sin of the parents shouldn’t affect the boy. You understand where I am driving right?” Her voice was low and compassionate that Lyra could tell that Tia didn’t want her to ignore Ryan for anything. The girl had fallen in love with the boy just like her and the twins
“I’ve heard you,” she replied before ending the call.
Not long after, she arrived at her very classic restaurant. Bruce had chosen the place they were supposed to meet and he picked this restaurant.
She stared at it for a while before walking in with her bag in her hand. She brought out her phone and called Bruce
They communicated, Lyra used the elevator to get to the floor where Bruce said he was waiting for her. When she got there, she was directed by a worker to the room Bruce was in.
The place was so beautiful and classic with glass walls. They could see outside from where they sat.
Bruce stood up like a gentleman when he saw Lyra enter but Lyra only nodded at him.
He took his seat and gestured for Lyra to do the same. She placed orders for the food she wanted to eat. She had not eaten throughout that day because she had been busy with work so she ordered enough for herself.
She didn’t say a word to Bruce and the man didn’t either. They were both operating their phones till the food came. Bruce didn’t order anything so he only sipped his wine but Lyra ate a lot.
Bruce couldn’t stop himself from staring so he picked his phone up to distract himself but still, he found himself stealing glances. Lyra could feel the gaze but she didn’t care
He had his chance and blew it. She was glad that he was behaving himself and not running to her like some foolish person.
Lyra didn’t have any shame that he was staring at her as she ate. She is no longer the Lyra she used to be, she is a different person that doesn’t care about anyone else aside from her family. And her family is what brought her here. She would do anything for her twin’s happiness
After some time, she dropped her cutlery
“It’s about Ryan” she began as she used the wipes to clean her oily lips
Bruce dropped his phone as well before releasing breaths. He was relieved that she had decided to speak finally. He didn’t say anything and waited for her to continue which she did
“I really love Ryan coming around, I’m okay and comfortable with him around but…” She paused
She didn’t want to tell Bruce that it was because of Bryan that she wanted Ryan to stop coming. She sighed before changing her statement
“Instead of Ryan coming over to play with the kids, I have come to discuss with you some other suggestions”
Bruce rested his hand on his chin as he waited for her to speak. He knew what was going on even without Lyra saying it to him
Bryan is angry that Ryan keeps coming over. Bryan doesn’t want to see him so he is pissed off whenever he sees him come and pick up Ryan.
Lyra now doesn’t know what to do as she doesn’t know whether to obey her husband-to-be or ignore Bryan’s request to satisfy her children.
“I want my children to come over to your house instead,” she said with her head down.
She doesn’t know what else to do. The three children are inseparable and she doesn’t want to break any of their hearts but neither does she want to lose Bryan. With the way Bryan was making a mountain out of a mole, she was sure he would one day just have a fight with Bruce in front of the kids. That’s one thing she never wants to happen.
“Are you sure?” Bruce asked
Lyra nodded “Yes, I’ve thought about it. It’s the only way since I wouldn’t be around to take care of them. It’s better they are at your house”
She tried to cover the real reason but Bruce already knows. He nodded before sipping from his drink
“I do not have a problem with any of the arrangements but are you sure Bryan wouldn’t have a problem with it?” He asked as he looked at her keenly
Lyra snapped her eyes to look at Bruce. Bruce didn’t move his eyes away from her. He said to her
“I know why you want the kids to come to my house instead. It’s because of Bryan but are you sure you want to do that? Wouldn’t it be worse if he finds out that you are doing this behind his back?”
Lyra opened her mouth only to close it back, she had thought it through so she must have thought about this too, right?
“Well, ehn… he just doesn’t have to find out” she replied as she drank from her wine.
Bruce nodded “I would make arrangements and speak to Ryan about it also. He would be so happy about it as far as he sees the twins”
“Same with the kids,” Lyra smiled. She would do anything for them, even if it means hiding it from Bryan
“So who’s dropping them and who’s picking them up?” Bruce asked.
Before, he would drop Ryan up and pick him up also but now, it’s the other way around. But now, Lyra would still have to see him if she decides to pick the kids up
“I will” she replied
“Huh, I don’t think Bryan would like that” Bruce reasoned
“What I mean is, the man doesn’t want you anywhere near me so I don’t think he would like that”
“That is my problem” Lyra replied as she picked up her bag and stood up. She didn’t like the way Bruce was talking about Bryan as if he was better.
“Hey” he stood up as well. He could see that she was angry “I’m sorry. I’m sorry, please sit. I’m really sorry. I just wanted to remind you”
“I don’t need your help to remind me of what I already know” she snapped but sat also as she clicked her tongue at him.
“I’m sorry,” Bruce said again.
“It’s okay,” Lyra said after a while and also said
“Sorry for the outburst, it was uncalled for”
Bruce nodded and the both of them sat there quietly sipping from their glass of wine
“How’s your relationship with him?” Bruce asked, causing Lyra to furrow her brows. Maybe she should have gone then, she looked at him for a while and when she didn’t see a reason to not answer him, she replied
“Fine. We’ve been doing well”
Bruce slowly bobbed his head up and down as he was deep in thought
“You should be careful with him around”
Lyra narrowed her eyes at him before asking as she tried to suppress her anger
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
“Don’t get me wrong, Lyra. I’m only saying you should be careful”
“You don’t tell your ex-wife to be careful around the man she is planning to get married to!” She snapped.
“What am I thinking about still sitting here with you after saying what I had come to?” She stood up
“Bruce, the fact that your relationship broke does not mean mine will. For your information, you deserve all that happened to you because you hurt me first!” she picked up her bag
“You should learn one or two from your bodyguard, Henri. Did you know he proposed to my friend, Tia?”
“I would leave first” she stood up and walked out. Bruce didn’t get the chance to even apologize as he watched her leave.
Far from the restaurant, someone made a phone call
“Yes, she just came out after more than an hour in there with him”
