Feeling uneasy under his intense gaze, Charlotte wondered if he could really make things difficult for her. After all, she had just offended them, and if they were petty, they might indeed target her. This made her quite nervous. “Whatever, when trouble comes, just face it!” Charlotte thought to herself.
“Now, let’s start distributing the test papers,” Zachary Poole said in a deep voice. As it was an interview, it naturally needed to be formal, with results being the standard. The facade had to be maintained.
Soon, the sounds of paper rustling and pens scratching filled the interview room. Charlotte looked at the test paper and secretly breathed a sigh of relief. Having worked for the Pittman family for a few years, she was quite familiar with these matters, so the test wasn’t very challenging for her. Besides, she had spent years self-studying, her approach to answering questions incorporating both theory and practice, giving her an edge over the others.
Zachary Poole’s gaze roamed the room, occasionally sweeping over Charlotte. Leah Barton also occasionally looked up, exchanging glances with him, signaling that it was time to start their plan. Zachary Poole nodded impatiently.
Tired of this woman and out of patience, he had to compromise due to the leverage she held over him, resulting in a mere transactional relationship between them. But now, his attention was fixed on Charlotte. He pondered how he could possibly make her his.
As time ticked by, the office fell into eerie silence. Leah Barton exchanged another glance with him. Suddenly standing up, she pointed at Charlotte and screamed, “What are you doing?” This shout drew everyone’s attention. Charlotte, startled, looked up at Leah, confused. “What am I doing? Have you lost your mind?”
“What’s going on?” Zachary Poole came over, his face stern. “What happened?”
“I…” Charlotte began to explain. But Leah Barton quickly intercepted, “Interviewer, I saw her eyes wandering around suspiciously. I suspect she’s cheating!” Hearing this, everyone was stunned, then glared at Charlotte with disdain. “Cheating? How shameful to cheat during an interview! I can’t believe she would do this!” they muttered under their breath.
“I didn’t!” Charlotte protested loudly, her eyes filled with injustice.
“Enough.” Zachary Poole spoke impatiently and dominantly, “If someone saw it, what’s there to explain? Do you think they would falsely accuse you for no reason?” he scolded coldly.
“I… I really didn’t!” Charlotte said angrily, “I know it, I must have offended you and now you’re framing me together!”
“You…”
“Insolence!” Zachary Poole, upon hearing this, changed his expression to anger. “Caught cheating and still daring to slander the interviewer?”
“You, come with me now!” His cold gaze fixed on Charlotte, undeniably authoritative. Biting her lip, Charlotte reluctantly stood and followed him out. What choice did she have? As just a candidate, she was in no position to fight back against an interviewer. Frustrating as it was, she had to endure.
Seeing Charlotte really follow him out, a smug smile crossed Zachary Poole’s lips. He glanced back at the others and casually said, “Continue with your exam.”
Once in the next room, Zachary Poole sat on the sofa with a smirk, looking arrogantly at Charlotte. “Sit down, don’t be shy.”
Taking a deep breath, Charlotte said, “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to…”
Zachary cut her off with a grimace and a dismissive wave, “Save your apologies, they don’t work on me.”
“So you’re just going to frame me like this? Ruin my future?” Charlotte said indignantly, “Don’t you think you went too far?”
