Erelah POV
The whispers of the people here echoed inside the court, I sat quietly next to two people I didn’t know. Stupid and out of my mind I was waiting for them to come.
Some events before what happened now came back to my memory.
From Damon surprising me to the end of that day.
Waiting in front is the Judge and the opponent’s lawyer, who I think is the family of the person who was hurt by Chai at the amusement park before, but what I don’t understand is why there seem to be more of them.
As far as I know, only the families of the victims should be sitting here today to watch. Is the family of a single person hurt by Damon’s Host already?
I took a deep breath and looked at the purse Damon gave me that I was wearing now. His last gift before he admitted to me that today is the hearing day of his case.
“Why did it take so long for that criminal to enter?”
“I don’t know either, I just heard that that one is crazy.”
“No! It’s obvious, who in their right mind would kill innocent people?”
“Correct, one more thing, I found out that that criminal admitted that he tried to kill the dead Mayor.”
I looked at the two people next to me who was talking, my forehead wrinkled because of what they were talking about and because of what they called Damon.
“That criminal even said that he knows the killer of the mayor but he won’t admit it because he is protecting someone.”
I was about to speak when the court door suddenly opened, I stood up from where I was sitting to look at Damon outside. Tears immediately flowed when I saw him in handcuffs again and wearing prison clothes, next to him and behind him, there were police officers while Draco and his lawyer were in front of him.
Draco entered first with Damon’s lawyer, while Damon suddenly looked at my behavior causing me to easily wipe my runaway tears and smile at him.
“Erelah, promise me that you won’t cry every time you see me in a difficult situation.”
What Damon said to me when he gave me his gift came back to my mind. Everything was like slow motion when Damon walked in the middle while looking at me, he had a very cold aura, a normal aura for Damon. But there was sadness in his eyes, a feeling that was new to me because it was the first time I saw Damon look at me like that, a very sad look.
“Damon.” I called his name causing him to stop walking and smile at me then he gave me an ‘Everything will be fine look.
He walked next to his lawyer again, so I slowly sat down while not taking my eyes off him.
“You know that dead person, Ija?” I ignored the question of the person next to me because my attention was only on Damon. I saw Gazer and Havacco come in last and sit in front of me, they both turned to me and I also saw the sad look in their eyes.
I saw that someone was still talking to Damon and his opponent, I couldn’t hear what they were talking about but I saw that the person on the other side shook his head, after that there was a long silence.
“All rise. ” We all stood up except for the Judge who was in front.
“Department One of the Superior Court is now in session. Judge Kaithlyn presiding. Please be seated.” After the Bailiff said those words we sat down, once again there was silence inside.
“Good morning, ladies and gentlemen. Calling the case of the People of the Republic of the Philippines versus Damon. Are both sides ready?” The Judge in front asked.
“Ready for the People, Your Honor.” The other side’s lawyer said after he stood up.
“Ready for the defense, Your Honor,” Damon’s lawyer said and sat down again.
“Will the clerk please swear in the jury?” The Judge asked. Damon hasn’t been asked yet and I’m getting nervous. I don’t know why but I feel like something bad is going to happen.
What else was said by those in front before the other side’s lawyer stood up and spoke front?
“Your Honor and ladies and gentlemen of the jury: the defendant has been charged with the crime of Homicide, Attempted killing, and public violation. The evidence will show CCTV Footage that Damon stab one person at the Amusement park on March 18 2022 exactly 3:39 PM Minutes later, the defendant was arrested. The defendant’s fingerprints were on the knife used to stab the person. The evidence I present will prove to you that the defendant is guilty as charged.” The lawyer on the other side said and showed the CCTV footage that was taken at the amusement park then, you see the when Damon stabbed someone and when he tried to kill me.
“Your Honor and ladies and gentlemen of the jury: under the law, my client is presumed innocent until proven guilty. During this trial, you will hear no real evidence against my client. You will come to know the truth: that Damon was in the CCTV Footage but is that Damon? My Client has Multiple personality disorder and the alter of the body which is Chai and Achaz are there, Therefore my client is not guilty.” Damon’s lawyer said.
They went ahead with the plan to make Chai appear as an alter even though he was the host in that body.
“The prosecution may call its first witness.” The Judge said and there was a woman who stood up from the other side and walked to the front, if I’m not mistaken she was one of Damon’s companions.
The first witness stood on the witness stand then the clerk approached him.
“Please stand. Raise your right hand. Do you promise that the testimony you shall give in the case before this court shall be the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, so help you, God?” The clerk asked the woman.
“I do.” The woman said.
“Please state your first and last name.”
“Maria Cristy Mendiola.”
“You may be seated.” The clerk said then the woman who introduced herself as Maria sat down.
“Maria, where were you on March 18, 2022?” The lawyer on the other side asked.
“I’m at the amusement park with my friend.” It said.
“Do you see that guy?” He asked while pointing at Damon causing me to clench my fist.
“Yes.” I saw the fear in Maria’s eyes when she saw Damon.
“Is he the guy who stabbed your friend when you were at the Amusement park?” The lawyer asked Maria, Maria immediately nodded while crying.
“Yes… Yes, I saw how he stabbed Christine, I saw how the knife went into my friend’s body.” He said that’s why I closed my eyes.
“Thank you, I have no further questions.” Said the lawyer on the other side before taking his seat.
“Does the defense have any questions?” The judge asked.
“Not at this time, Your Honor.” Damon’s lawyer said and whispered something to Damon.
“The witness is excused.” The judge said that’s why the first witness left the witness stand. “The prosecution may call the next witness.” The judge said again that’s why I stood up causing everyone to look at me.
Damon, we’re going to prove you’re innocent.
