Chapter THIRTY EIGHT

Rachelle’s pov
I’ve always loved the night, the silence and the darkness around me always gave me peace. It gave me time to heal from the day’s pain and strength to go through the next day’s hustle and torture-it was the time I had to heal.
But this might have felt even more magical than any night I’ve sat and travailed through. Because I wasn’t preparing to heal from the day’s torture, I was ending the day with more bliss after so much fun and enjoyment, sitting on this empty rooftop terrace with my Alpha king. We talked through most of the night, sharing thoughts and visions, and fantasies. I’ve gotten to know him a little better and the more we talked, the more I fell more and more in love with him.
He was deep, thoughtful, and attentive, especially during that time in the restaurant when I had basically no idea what food was planted on our table. It amused me how he gently took his time to narrate them to me and made me fall in love with the delicacies.
And so I found myself leaning against his broad chest, as we both watched the sunrise, his breath, traveling down my face, as he intertwined his fingers with mine, his thumb drawing circles at the back of my palm while I listened to his heartbeat.
Some might say the New York skyline by night is the most beautiful thing on earth while some might say it’s the ever-glorious sight of the French skyscraper beautifying the wing city of Paris. I agreed to those claims sometimes but right now, I wanted to take every word I’ve said back because right now all I can see is the stars together with the moon and sun morphed into this man beside me. My alpha King. His face was the only thing that made sense to me right now.
And here and now, I felt like the stars aligned like everything finally sets into place. With Everett, life is light, easy, peaceful, and delicious and yes, I could get used to it. And in the process of enjoying it, I registered at the back of my mind is a rare virtue and it doesn’t come easy and it has its price because I know that nothing worth having comes easy, that’s for sure.
And boy, was I ready and willing to pay whatever price it will cost to always remain with Everett?
“Rachelle…” he whispered, and then his heart started pounding against his rib cage. Loud enough for me to hear and also evoke my sleeping wolf. While I heard his thundered from his heart, mine only whimpered before-even my wolf was consumed by the fire that he encompassed.
I looked up at him with sleepy eyes. As soon as his intense starry-green eyes met my gunmetal blue eyes, I felt my body jolt up with electrifying energy because that was what his eyes did to me. They gave me hope and made me feel loved, they ignited my core and set every nerve in my body ablaze.
“Kiss me Everett” the rising sun contoured his face and his irises dancced with passion and desire as he looked at my face, my head still placed on his shoulder.
“I thought you’d never ask” he teased a while before he brushed some strands of hair from my face to the back of my ear. His large palms cupping either side of my face, he leaned closer until our lips collided like two meteors on their way to Earth.
And that’s exactly what that kiss was. It was earth-shattering, explosive, body-firing, and intoxicating. Our lips fused, played, and danced as they battled each other. My fingers shot through his hair as I desperately looked for an outlet to hold on to and empty my pent-up emotions. I felt a wave of heat crash down on me when he rubbed his hands on my exposed thigh skin showing through the slit part of the gown. I gently bite down on his lower lip, completely and utterly compelled by this man.
“Fucking hell, Rachelle” he whispered against our kiss before his tongue chased mine again and caught it in a tight French twist, punishing me in the best way possible. I felt like I was floating like I was high on passion and carnal desire, and that’s probably why I couldn’t stop. I felt like I would need to stop to gain composure but again, I realized I owed him that much power over me, I felt like I would be safe even after being drunk with him.
To my surprise he was the one who pulled back, leaving me breathless and fired up like a cannon ready to explode when his starry-forest eyes met mine. My once neat and nicely styled hair is now messy.
“Have I told you how fucking beautiful you are?”
And if my cheeks weren’t filled with heat from this mind-blowing kiss, they definitely would now. Because of the way the words left his lips, with his baritone voice rumbling through my body, it has my heart beating in every way possible.
“Yes, you have,” I said almost shyly.
,
“Good! I want you to remember that all the time”
“You have quite the looks and perfect bodily arrangements too, Everett”
He was looking at me. The kind of look that unnerves yet satisfies you in a way no one else could ever. He was staring right into my soul, making me feel alive in so many ways. And even though I’m not completely sure what chaos lay in the future, I decided to hang on and completely trust this man and let him look at me with the emotion he could fire up, love, hunger, lust, and desire.
“I don’t want the night to end yet Rachelle,” he said slowly, my finger in between his.
“Makes us both,” I said and we chuckled.
“But, we both know we have to call it off right? At least for now. I have to let you sleep” he said then grinned from ear to ear “even though that’s not what I want to do the most”
“Pervert,” I said as I stuck out my tongue.
“It’s what you do to me girl. Trust me. It is all you. You intrigue the hell out of me and every time I see you, all I do is try to compose myself, because for….. you are fire” as he was speaking, I saw it in his eyes, the honesty. He wasn’t just saying them because words like that are what you use to finish off a girl after your dates.
“It’s what you do to me too, Everett ” he smiled again, and this time, there was no restraint or fear. No play, no teasing! Just honesty and bliss. And it was not just about this striking and breathtaking handsome man.
“Let’s get you tucked in,” he said, giving my hair one last brush with his fingers. And so reluctantly, I pulled away from his chest, and he began to walk me to my room. Only now do I realize that the sun was shining brightly, announcing a new day.
“Thank you, he said when he reached my door, spinning me around before pulling me into his arms.
“For what?” I asked sincerely.
“For tonight. For everything and for every day you’ve stayed here with me in this pack” he tucked a stray strand of my hair and I immediately went crimson.
“You are just going to rip out my heart with your words, Everett”
And then just like that, he pushed me against the door, his lips crashing down on me with such force that I felt the air getting knocked out of my lungs. My wolf jumped non-stop from my chest as she showcased her wiggling tiara.
We lost ourselves in the kiss, his hands roaming the entire length of my back before he placed them on my ass, pressing my center to the obvious young man between his legs. We both pulled away at the same time, needing space to breathe and as I laid my forehead against him, all I could breathe was his intoxicating and compelling smell.
“Sleep well, sweetness. You know where to find me in case…..” He winked, right before he left for his room.
**********************
The early autumn air was crisp and vibrant, causing the sweet smell of windfall and fallen leaves to invade my nostril, which added to the feeling of Euphoria I’ve been melting in since yesterday. Even though I am in my bedroom, draped in a cotton-woven quilt, glasses on, hair sprawled over my pillow, looking a mess of myself, a sharp contrast to what I looked like yesterday’s night, I was sure as hell I still had that glow on my face while I couldn’t get the softening smell of autumn out of my windpipe.
I woke up to the smell of fresh coffee and toast as bright lights cut through my eyes, and immediately my brain registers the massive swell in my heart. I kicked my quilt off my body and made my way to wherever the coffee scent was coming from.
“Look who decided to join the party,” Violet said the moment I walked to the living room.
“Good morning to you too, Violet”
“And here’s that smile, I know I would see on your face this morning…. I’m fucking feeling all giddy-mushed up for you” she squealed, kicking her legs as they hung halfway from where she sat on the kitchen island with a mug of coffee.
“Stop it Violet,” I said breathlessly.
“Awnnnn… isn’t that lovely? You’re blushing at the mere mentioning of it” she cooed. “So tell me! I want to know everything” she said grinning from ear to ear, her eyes glittering with interest.
“Leave me alone, Vi,” I said, not being able to hold the smile that broke out on my face.
“No, you start saying shit” she retorted.
“Can I at least have breakfast first?”
“Brunch! Do you even know what the time is? “She said and I opened my mouth in the shape of O. Did she just say brunch? “But since Everett made coffee and toast and for specifically mentioned I made sure you eat, I’d let you eat breakfast.
The smile found its way back to my face.
“Everett made me breakfast?” I asked unbelievably.
“Yes… and some note, which is on the table” I didn’t let her finish before I skipped like a kid that had just been handed her first dollar note to the said table and grabbed the note Everett left me.
Morning sweetness, you looked so peaceful while you slept I didn’t want to ruin your time and wake you. Although I hope you felt my little kiss in your dream and that the smile you had on while you slept was for me…. Have a fun-filled day baby. Call me if you need anything.
With love, Everett.
Now you could imagine the smile on my face. If wasn’t in love with this man before, I’m definitely head over heels for him right now.
“Yeah, the coffee is still in the pot and the toast, eggs with bacon are in the microwave…eat and start talking or talking while eating. I don’t care. Just make sure you tell me every single fucking thing that happened last night. From the restaurant to the food to the kisses and every other thing that happened “she suddenly stopped and scrunched up her nose.”I’m not sure I want to hear the other stuff. Just stick to the whole date stuff without the sex”
“There was no sex” I replied bemusedly, eyes still darting through the ink of Everett’s note.
Breakfast be damned!
With the sticky note between my fingers, I ranted on and on about everything that happened between Everett and me, and for every nanosecond of the minutes I was narrating my story, I smiled like a Cheshire cat.
“Damn girl” Violet squealed, cleaning imaginary tears from her eyes. “I’m so fucking happy for the both of you” she continued, but added in a sullen voice “I hope I find something as real as what you both have”
“But of course. I’m sure Stellan would do more than real with you” I said, grabbing a plate and stuffing it with toast and eggs.
“How can you be so sure?” she shrugged and added, while fiddling with her fingers “he is so far away. I’m not sure I can trust him, Rachelle. I don’t think I can….”
“You want to know what I think.” I asked, taking a seat next to her.
“Tell me,” she said, looking at me through her lashes.
“I think you should give love a chance.” Giving her hand a gentle squeeze, I added. “And try not to make the mistake I made”
