Chapter THIRTY

Book:The Rise Of The Phoenix Queen Published:2024-5-1

Everett’s POV
I had watched Theodore and Rachelle train together. Although I was proud of the progress she was making, as she learned more quickly than I expected her to. In spite of the injuries she still had that were healing, she moved quickly as Theodore tried to land a hit, but then as she went narrowing towards him with full force she could only just move Theodore slightly, before the fell on the ground with an ‘oomph!’.
“What exactly are you made of, young man?” She asked Theodore as he bent to help her up.
“Pounds and pounds of pure muscle and protein, my lady.” He said, laughing as he helped her up. Rachelle had a small frown on her face.
“Show off. I bet you stood there waiting for me to hit you on purpose. Didn’t you?” Rachelle asked him and I just stood, watching their exchange. Theodore responded to her question with a laugh.
I walked towards them without knowing what I was doing until I got to the front of them.
“I would like to train with Rachelle, please step aside, Theodore.” I said, not understanding the feeling that was running through my person.
“Okay Alpha.” Theodore said with a small bow and stepped aside.
“No!” Rachelle said without looking up at me, her voice hard and angry. “Theodore, come back here!”
“I will train you better. And you would be very comfortable.” I insisted. She narrowed her eyes to look at me.
“I never said that I was not comfortable with Theodore, did I?” She asked, her teeth clenched.
I glared at Theodore from the corner of my eye, sending him a barrage of threats using the mind link. Looking at me, he widened his eyes, startled, and raised the two of his hands in mock surrender.
“If Everett insists that he is going to train with me, then I refuse. I would rather not train at all, than to do so with him. I beg your pardon, alpha.” She said, spitting the last word and bowing slightly.
Ouch.
She needed to train, in case of an unexpected attack like the last one, and if she would not agree for me to train her, then I would not force her to. I deserved her anger anyway.
“Fine. Theodore, please come and continue with your training session.” I nodded. Theodore grinned.
“Sure, Everett.” He cracked his knuckles.
“Do not go easy on me.” Rachelle said cheekily and Theodore went her way barreling towards her and sending her to the ground as soon as his shoulder collided with her body.
He caught her just before she hit the ground and a surge of jealousy passed through me. Rachelle stood and pushed him away.
“Okay go easy. But not too easy, because I am not a child. I need you to be serious here, take me seriously! Do you understand me, Theo?” Rachelle said with a frown.
Theodore smiled as he heard the last of her sentence. “Yes, my Luna.”
Rachelle coughed a dry cough before spluttering. “What did you say?” She asked him,
“I said yes, our Rachelle.” Theodore said, nodding.
“Must have been my head.” She muttered to herself.
They continued to train and I sat, watching them in silence. Painful silence.
As Theodore trained her they laughed while she made mistakes, or blocked the wrong way or bent when she was not supposed to. I felt like going wolf and tearing at my beta, in order to chase him away and take my beautiful, beautiful mate all for myself.
Now I am beginning to sound like a jealous girl.

As soon as the training ended I cornered my mate.
“Hello to the most beautiful creature in the world.” I said and she had just walked past me, and it was as if no one had spoken. Like I was invisible and mute to the world- to her world.
Then suddenly, she stopped at turned back and I grinned. My Rachelle would not stay mad at me for long, of course.
But then, she smiled in my direction, but it did not look like she was smiling at me. Instead, her smile looked like it was directed at someone else.
I turned back to look at Theodore, my Beta. I could feel a growl trying to force its way out of my chest.
“Good bye Theo! Thank you for taking your time to teach me a few tricks!” She grinned.
Theodore had the audacity to smile back and even gave her a thumbs up in the process.
“You are absolutely welcome to come to me anytime, Rachelle! I have no problem with that.” He said.
Anytime? What did that even mean? What was he implying?
That was a very questionable choosing of words and it all sounded suggestive. Was Theodore trying to rile me up now too? Did he mean it the way I thought he did?
No, he would never! Theodore was my beta, he would never do anything like that to me. I was just thinking like a jealous pup.
Until I turned back in time to see Theodore wink at my mate. That bastard actually fucking winked at her! And then with a spring in her step, she went inside.
That was when the growl ripped out of my throat and I jumped on Theodore. Luckily, I was able to control myself well enough to be in human form.
“I could never have expected you to do this to me, Theodore. I trusted you, even with my life! You were supposed to be like a brother to me!” I grunted angrily at him.
Theodore looked genuinely confused. “Do what?”
“Flirting with my mate! How dare you?” Then I lowered my voice. “Are you in love with her?”
“Listen, listen.” Theodore sighed. “I do love her-”
I interrupted him with a growl and sent a punch to his face.
“Listen you angry wolf! I only love her as a sister. Not in the manner in which you are thinking! What is wrong with you, mate?” Theodore said and I released him from my grip, shaking my head.
“I am very sorry. It is just that Rachelle has been mad at me for a while now and I cannot even bear the thought of her-” I shook my head and went inside.
Soon, someone knocked on my room door. By the scent, I could easily tell that it was Theodore.
“Come inside.” I said to him.
“You better not be naked.” Theodore said through the door. He entered inside, frowning.
“At least you are dressed. Now,” He said, plopping himself on my bed.
“Let us speak about your future Luna.” He nodded at me.
“Tell me what happened.” He said.
I looked at him through narrowed eyes. “What do you mean? Nothing happened to me. I was not in an accident or attacked or beaten up.”
“Obviously.” Theodore scoffed. “I meant what happened between you and Rachelle? The two of you barely exchanged heart eyes today.”
“What?” I spluttered.
“Yes. What did you do wrong?” Theodore pressed on once again.
“Well,” I said, scratching my head. “Maybe I left her after we had an intimate moment?”
“Oh, the both of you went to sleep together after a nice, long talk?” Theodore asked. I nodded.
“Yes, and I had left her all alone in the morning without telling her why or even leaving a note.” I sighed, holding my head in my hands.
“That was so rude. If I bared my heart and soul out to my mate and then they stayed only to leave a few hours later, I would feel embarrassed too. And betrayed, and trust me, it gets even worse.” Theodore sighed. “You should apologize to her.”
I shook my head. “She would not listen to anything I have to say. She does not want to see my face at the moment, even.”
“Then I guess you have to use a bit of force. You need to push harder, let her know that you are serious about this whole thing and that you are not all words and no action.” Theodore said and I fought the urge to give a smart reply, but I could not help it.
“Oh believe me, she knows that I’ve got action.” I smirked.
“Oh so that was what happened!” Theodore said and smacked my arm hard. “You disgraced me, you stupid dude! How dare you? I should even call Violet and tell her what you did!” Theodore said and I winced.
My sister would definitely let me have it if she somehow got wind of all this.
“No, don’t involve my sister, please!” I said with a long groan.
“So you know what to do now then.” Theodore said as a matter of factual statement as he stood up to leave.
“No, no, no. I do not know what to do, and so I need you here.” I said, shaking my head to clear my thoughts.
“This is the part where you break down and tell your best friend what it is that is wrong.” Theodore said as he patted my back.
“I had left urgently because it was a very important affair that needed to be attended to. I would have done that if I knew it would make her upset. I was not even aware of the fact that it would take some time for everything to be completed, I thought that I would just have to drop a few signatures and in less than an hour, two at most, I would have been back. But I was not and when I tried to apologize, she gave me the cold shoulder, Theodore.” I said, rubbing my hands over my head.
“I love her, Theodore. And it is not even because of the mate pull, or the mate bond. I love her person too. She is so friendly, and she relates well with people. Who would not admire a person with such qualities? And although she had every right to, she had never used her past conditions as an excuse to lag behind, but she used them to help herself go higher. I am extremely proud of her for all that she has gone through, and the manner in which she holds herself. She is my life, Theodore. Without her, I would die, because she’s my mate, and because she makes every single thing seem even better! She even seems to make the sun shine brighter, yet cooler, and I would be fucked if I ever lost a treasure like her.” I finished, out of breath as I saw Theodore pretend to wipe a tear from the corner of his eyes.
“That was so beautiful man, you should resign from your alpha duties and be a poet or something instead.” He teased me.
“Stop that, please. I am honestly not interested in your compliments or teasing. I just want my woman back, and I need you to give me advice on how to do that.” I nudged his food with mine.
“It is just as I said earlier, bro. The heart wants what the heart wants, and if your heart truly wants Rachelle, you should go to her and open the door of your heart. Allow your emotions to spring through from within your heart and let it flow out of your mouth as words, or out of your body in the form of actions. If you do that, you would be able to win her back for sure. You know you would, don’t you?” Theodore asked me.
I gave him an unimpressed look.
“No. No, I do not know actually.”
“Well now you do, go there, do not hesitate and give your all, she would love you even more for that. Remember! Do not hesitate, let your heart, and not your brain, do the talking from your mouth, alright?” Theodore asked.
“Sure thing, thanks brother.” I said and went out.
Theodore only saluted.
