Chapter 47: Shirley and Emma’s Meeting

Emma’s eyes lit up again, “Really!”
May nodded with a smile, “What do you most want to ask?”
Emma frowned, pondered, “Does Patrick like her? Could she possibly become Luna?”
May shook her head matter-of-factly, “Firstly, she is an omega, she can’t just leap across so many levels to become Luna. Secondly, she’s just Jennifer’s chosen partner to manage Patrick’s pheromones. Patrick has never been close to her, they only have sex. The next morning, they go back to being strangers.”
This didn’t seem to cheer Emma up. She still felt a bit lost, “But, maybe one day he will mark her, won’t he? Many people gradually evolve from physical relationships into partners. Maybe they will too?”
May shrugged, still holding the tray in her hand. She wanted to gesture with her hands, but the current situation didn’t allow for it.
She said, “Do you need me to help you see what expression Alpha is wearing now? I guess you want to know.”
Emma looked conflicted; her upbringing told her this seemed wrong. Though not formally educated, her mother’s teachings were to avoid offending others as much as possible, and spying on others behind their backs seemed like an offense.
But now, her heart was filled with curiosity.
So she said, “I want to know.”
May then handed the tray to Emma, indicating for her to take it. Emma took the tray, and May leaned over to look down. Patrick and Shirley were both in the hall. Shirley seemed to be trying hard to get Patrick’s attention, but his interest seemed minimal; there was no emotion on his face, he seemed disinterested.
May turned triumphantly and took back the tray from Emma, “He definitely doesn’t like Shirley, nor does he enjoy interacting with her. It’s your turn, sister. Go down and get rid of her. Our Alpha will surely appreciate you for it.”
Emma’s expression still seemed dazed, “Really?”
But May didn’t intend to respond to her because she had already hummed a tune and gone downstairs.
After preparing herself for a long time, Emma finally went downstairs. Fortunately, Shirley was persistent and hadn’t given up trying to sway Patrick. And indeed, Patrick showed little reaction as May had said, showing no enthusiasm; his eyes seemed vacant.
So she called out his name, “Patrick.”
After hearing her voice, Patrick finally turned his face towards her. His eyes seemed to return to the real world.
“Emma,” he responded, “Aren’t you working part-time today?”
“Yes,” Emma replied, “Rory is currently developing a new project, and new partners are ready to invest in his bakery. They are figuring out ways to expand the business. I suppose the future renovation will continue for a while, and I will also be starting school soon. So I have nothing to do for the time being.”
“That’s a good thing,” Patrick replied gently, “You need to focus your energy on studying first. Believe me, it will be beneficial for you.”
“I understand,” Emma replied.
Meanwhile, Shirley was secretly sizing up Emma. She thought, so this is the daughter of that Nelson Jennifer mentioned. She looks younger and more wild, not the sensual kind of wild, but the untamed innocence of someone not bound by complex rules, belonging to the freedom of the forest and fields.
She seemed truly likable.
Unconsciously, Shirley felt jealous of her. She envied everything about her: her youth, her innocent lack of desires, her unrestrained wildness. Jennifer didn’t like her because she was the daughter of Nelson’s destined partner. Shirley didn’t like Emma because Emma was the person she wanted to be but never had the chance to become.
“You must be Emma,” she maintained a polite smile and spoke to Emma, “Patrick hasn’t mentioned you to me.”
Although this kind of girl always made her, this type of person, especially jealous, she also knew very well how to handle such girls. You just needed to dangle a bait lightly, and their hearts would quickly gather like fish in a pond, creating ripples on the surface.
Sure enough, Emma’s expression seemed somewhat unhappy.
“Is that so?” she replied, “It seems I haven’t heard Patrick mention you either.”
Shirley remained unfazed, “Because you’re not of age, little sister. It’s not quite appropriate to tell you these things in full detail. What can he tell you, the details of our lovemaking?”
Emma was certainly no match for Shirley in this verbal sparring. Although this woman had only had Patrick as a sexual partner, she had been selling alcohol in bars since she was fifteen. She was eloquent, which is why she sold the most alcohol each month in the bar. She knew how to appeal to people’s deep desires.
Not knowing how to respond, Emma looked like she was about to cry.
Patrick’s mind suddenlygot stuck when the two women started talking. For a few minutes, he had no idea what was happening, but now he knew what he should do. He needed to take Emma away first, to prevent her from further contact with Shirley and avoid her being influenced by Shirley.
Then, he needed to have a serious conversation with Shirley about her status; she couldn’t just waltz in like this. This wasn’t a place she could enter and leave as she pleased.
He thought that Shirley’s brazen arrival must have Jennifer’s encouragement. She was urgently seeking out anyone who could possibly become Luna. First, it was Nicola, but after finding out that Nicola didn’t have a strong desire to become Luna, she turned her gaze to Shirley. After all, it was Jennifer who had orchestrated Shirley becoming his sexual partner in the first place.
He wouldn’t let this continue; he needed to wait for his fated partner to appear. But when it came to his fated partner, for a few moments, the images flashing through his mind were all of Emma’s face. He desperately tried to push those images away, forcing himself not to think about it. His wolf hadn’t responded yet; he couldn’t make hasty decisions.
Moreover, Emma was only sixteen, more than a year away from adulthood. He couldn’t entertain such dirty fantasies about an underage girl.
He stood up, issuing a cold command. At this moment, he was completely the lofty alpha, “Shirley, you should leave. I will talk to you later, but not now. I will have someone escort you out of here.”
Shirley got up calmly.
“Of course, Patrick. It’s your duty as an older brother to introduce the new sister to the Silver Moon Pack.” She still smiled, “I’ll leave first, Emma. See you next time, looking forward to our next meeting.”
She elegantly turned to Emma, gave her a nod, and left.
Emma remained behind, rolling her eyes at her retreating figure, thinking, I’m certainly not looking forward to seeing you again.
Only after her figure completely disappeared from sight did Patrick relax and turned to Emma, “Let’s go, we can go for a walk now. There’s a place that’s perfect for relaxing.”
