Chapter 45: Patrick’s Mate

Book:My Refusing Wolf Mate Published:2024-6-5

Jennifer called for Shirley. Shirley was a former regular sexual partner of Patrick’s, and they would occasionally meet. However, Patrick did not like Shirley. He always warned her not to covet things that didn’t belong to her. Fortunately, Shirley was clear about her position.
She was just an omega, and she knew what she should do. She never expected Jennifer to be the one to find her.
She knocked on the door, and a voice responded from inside, “Come in.”
She walked in and saw Jennifer, who unexpectedly joked, “I never thought you would call me. After all, it’s usually Patrick who contacts me.”
However, Jennifer’s face looked very serious, without a hint of joking. “We need to do something, Shirley,” she said.
Shirley didn’t understand; she was a bit puzzled. “What are you talking about, Jennifer?”
“Patrick,” Jennifer explained. “You need to make him accept you as his mate.”
Shirley’s eyes widened immediately. She even suspected that Jennifer had gone mad today. How could she want a lowly omega like her to become Luna? She was not like Nicola. That was the only exception. Nicola’s mother had been Jennifer’s best playmate, and had even saved Jennifer’s life, so Nicola, as an omega daughter, received preferential treatment because of that.
But she was nothing like that.
She looked at Jennifer with a puzzled expression. But it seemed that she was seriously considering the feasibility of this matter.
So Shirley could only say, “I have mentioned it. I tried asking him about being mates, but he is stubborn. He wants to wait for his fated mate.”
Jennifer rolled her eyes and stood up. She paced back and forth in the room, clenching her fists. “I’m certain she’s no good. She’s foolish and reckless, and self-centered. I detest such kids,” she gritted her teeth. “But that’s not the issue now.”
Jennifer’s gaze firmly locked onto Shirley; she seemed more puzzled than before.
“What is it?” she asked.
Jennifer tightened her jaw, now anger was dominating her. Emma always made her restless. If she was willing to be submissive, that would be best, but clearly, she wasn’t. She worked to provoke Nelson’s guilt and pity, so Nelson would spend more time compensating and being with her.
And now, she even had Patrick’s attention. Patrick always spoke up for her, rather than standing by her, his mother. That made her angry. Both her mate and her son were now being taken away by that damn girl!
She would not allow that to happen.
But her son, Patrick, she knew him. From the way he looked at her, I knew. Would he fall for her? Would he choose her as his mate? No, I can’t let that happen. I must take action and stop it before it happens.
“She’s Nelson’s daughter,” she muttered.
Shirley widened her eyes. “What do you mean? Nelson has a daughter?” she asked.
There was a hint of jealousy in her tone. Not everyone could suddenly rise to power and make connections with the elites, especially not someone of her status.
Her jealousy satisfied Jennifer. She needed this girl’s jealousy, her ambition. She wanted the money and power that came with marrying the king. Those would make her easier to control. If she wanted to escape her current circumstances, she had to accept everything Jennifer arranged for her.
At least, dealing with Shirley would be much better than dealing with Emma or other similarly pitiful girls.
“Patrick’s attention to her is too intense,” she said.
Shirley narrowed her eyes.
“I’m worried that once she turns 18, he will invite her to be his chosen mate.”
Shirley clenched her fists, letting out a low growl. “My moon, this is terrible news,” she said softly. “Can’t we get rid of her?”
Jennifer sighed. This was what she most wanted to do, but she couldn’t.
“She is Nelson’s daughter, and Nelson is watching her closely now. I don’t want to mess with this situation. It would become troublesome. I don’t want to deal with this.”
Shirley frowned, biting her lip. It seemed she was thinking. After a while, she looked up, gazing at me with concern.
“Have you ever considered the possibility that she is his fated mate?” she muttered.
This sentence left Jennifer breathless. She exclaimed, “By the moon, the goddess wouldn’t choose someone without a wolf as a fated mate, she’s not even a werewolf. There are no werewolf genes in her family. Nelson still doesn’t have his own wolf.”
Shirley breathed a sigh of relief. “Oh, thank the goddess.”
Otherwise, it would be the worst nightmare of Jennifer’s life. Emma wasn’t a werewolf, so she could never be someone’s fated mate in her life. However, Patrick could still choose her just as she had chosen Nelson.
Jennifer could never tolerate such a thing happening.
“I need you to become his mate, Shirley,” she said. “We have to stop that little brat from thinking she has a chance with my son.”
A spark of determination and ambition lit up in Shirley’s eyes. “I assure you, that little wretch will never be able to catch him,” she said with a fierce resolve.
Jennifer smiled and nodded.
“How old is she now?” Shirley asked. “I need to make sure I have enough time.”
“Sixteen,” she replied. “Not much time before she comes of age. I hope you can secure Patrick before that happens.”
“That’s great,” Shirley said, a brilliant smile spreading across her face. “He still needs me until she comes of age.”
Jennifer nodded and continued pacing in the room.
“That’s why we need to hurry,” Jennifer said. “I hope you can be marked before that little brat turns 18.”
“Do you have a plan?” Shirley asked. “Patrick has never been warm to me. And when Nicola came back recently, he paid even more attention to her than he did to me.”
Jennifer was very worried about this. She had thought Nicola’s appearance would divert Patrick’s attention from Emma, but Nicola didn’t seem to have a strong desire to become Luna.
“You can pretend to be pregnant,” she finally said.
Shirley raised her eyebrows high. “Are you serious?” she sighed. “The scent of a pregnant she-wolf is very obvious. He’s the alpha of this pack; he would only need a moment to smell that I’m lying.”
Jennifer sighed and rolled her eyes. “It’s not like that. It seems you don’t understand the reasoning behind this.”
Shirley furrowed her brow; indeed, she did not understand. She had never been marked and had only maintained a sexual relationship with Patrick. She was completely ignorant about this.
Jennifer thought she needed to educate this ignorant girl in order to ensure Emma would smoothly get out of here when she turned eighteen.
“I will teach you carefully. Don’t worry,” she said.
