Deafening Silence

Book:The Devil's Possession Published:2024-6-5

I snatched my hand out of Aiden’s grasp, holding it to my chest as I quickly snapped my head to the side, spotting my mate standing just a few steps away from us. His men stood behind him, my brother included.
Lucas had disappeared at some point when Aiden was yapping, but I thought he went to take a piss or something! Looking at things now, did he run off to snitch?!
“W-When did you come? I didn’t even smell you…” I gulped.
“What the fuck are you doing?” Kasan’s eyes dropped to my wrist and I paled when they shifted suddenly to a bright golden, fury slipping over his face. His fists tightened at his side and veins rose on his arms as a dangerously wicked aura surrounded his figure, spreading through the club. As if sensing danger, a bunch of people shuffled out as if fire was on their tale, while a few inquisitive ones stayed to stare.
Fuck. I expected him to be angry when I decided to come here, but right now he seems to be seething beyond my expectation.
“Uh…well…you weren’t home and I was bored so I decided to have fun with the guys. It wasn’t much fun though, so I don’t think I’ll come back…” I trailed off, hopping off the stool I had been sitting on and moving my hands behind me.
“Is it him?” Kasan’s eyes finally left my figure and before I could be relieved, he glared over my shoulder, the lines forming on his forehead making him look even more aggressive, “The mutt you’ve been with?”
I frowned. I’m assuming he’s more angered by the fact that Aiden’s here rather than the fact that I’m at a club.
“… I think putting it like that sounds…a bit weird? I wasn’t ‘with’ him. That’s not what it was. I was…well…he wanted to yap to someone and since he sat beside me, I had to lend him an ear. And I think he smelled his mate’s scent on my hand…which is why he was being utterly gross and sniffing me. But yeah, that’s all. He’s a random dude, strangely an Alpha though.”
“Oh, is this your mate?” Aiden spoke up from behind me, shifting on his stool so he could sweep his gaze over Kasan’s figure. He tilted his head, “An Alpha?” For some reason, he didn’t seem all that worried for his life despite the fact that Kasan and his men stood before him. Is he really drunk? Or is he just not from here?
“So, you’re a Luna then? Which pack is this?” He rose a questioning brow.
He’s really not from here at all. Still, sense the fucking danger!
“I thought wolves of all people would know not to touch what’s not theirs.” Kasan spat, feet taking menacing steps closer as his claws lengthened at the tips of fingers. “Who the fuck are you?”
“I think there’s been some sort of misunderstanding.” Aiden said, standing from his stool and narrowing his eyes into a glare of his own.
I paled as the hostility rose from both sides.
“Wait wait wait!” I quickly slipped between them, pressing my hands to Kasan’s chest, “What are you doing? This is–”
“Alpha.” I was rudely cut off by chase who came through the club’s entrance. His eyes were stuck on a sheet of paper he carried in his hand as he made his way through the guys and stopped next to Kasan. “I parked the car out front and Jace is checking th—What’s that scent?” Sniffing the air, his gaze rose from the paper and climbed over me then to Aiden, confusion passing over his face. He looked him up and down, eyes bulging.
I looked back at Aiden and was confused to see him holding a similarly shocked expression. Do they know each other?
“M-Mate?”
What the hell?

It was literal chaos in the club after that and thankfully, when Aiden grabbed Chase by the hand and pulled him out, Kasan didn’t try to stop them. His face had no-doubt hardened to a murderous degree but he surprisingly didn’t say a word. I was honestly grateful for the unexpected declaration, saved me big time.
I should’ve known the scent on my hands was Chase’s since he kept handing me chocolates, but a male as his mate never even crossed my mind, you can’t blame me. Well, at least Aiden got his wish. He kept going on about being too tainted for his mate, but I bet they’re not even thinking about any of that now. And I suppose if he’s mated to one twin, he’s probably also mated to the other.
Tsk. I doubt they have any gay bones in them.
It’s honestly kind of funny.
“Put on the belt.” Kasan’s awfully cold voice pulled me out of my thoughts. I turned my head to glance at him, frowning. His eyes have been looking or rather glaring straight ahead despite the fact that the engine hadn’t even started yet. And he hasn’t even glanced at me since he pulled me out of the club and into his car!
Is he still angry?
“So Kasan…?” I mumbled, hesitantly testing the waters. “Where’d you go off to this late?”
No answer.
Just as I thought, he’s still angry. But what for?! I thought he’d loosen up a little considering how the situation turned out with Aiden and Chase but the guy still has his fists balled!
So basically, he gets to mingle with women while I can’t even offer a few words to some random guy?
Reluctantly, I fixed my seatbelt and reclined in my seat, glaring over at him. “Are you ignoring me?”
Silence.
“Hey!”
Silence.
“My belly hurts.”
More silence.
“Kasan!”
Wayy more silence.
“Fine. Be mad!”
The drive continued on just like that, neither Kasan nor I spoke after that. Despite the shitty thoughts running around in my head, I still wasn’t too worried about this mood of his. This isn’t the first time he’s been like this. If I give it a few minutes, he’ll return to his usual self.
But contrary to what I thought, even when we got back home, Kasan barely spared me a glance. His sole words as soon as we stepped through the door were, “You reek of his filth.”
I offered to shower together, but he stole the bathroom and slammed the door in my face. As if that wasn’t enough, I showered immediately after him and came back to the room, but by then, he was already sprawled across his side of the bed, eyes closed and back turned yet definitely not sleeping.
Huffing, I climbed onto the bed beside him and turned my back to him as well, before spitefully pulling the duvet off his lower body and over mine, closing my eyes. I wasn’t sleepy in the slightest, nonetheless, I kept my eyes squeezed close for more than half an hour, determined to fall asleep. But my annoying situation weighed down on me even more the longer I laid there curled up on one side of the bed, while listening to his soft breaths from the other end.
Ugh, I can’t sleep! He’s never been mad at me this long!
Popping my eyes wide open, I threw the duvet off and was ready to spin around to him but stiffened when I felt movement on his side. I dropped my head back against the pillow and laid as still as a rock until I felt his warm breath run down the nape of my neck. I shivered as his body slowly inched closer to mine, arm draping over my stomach.
“You want anything? I’ll make it for you.” His nose nuzzled into my neck, sniffing at my skin while his hand slipped under my T-Shirt, caressing my stomach directly.
Oh, so now you talk?
