The evening was a bit chilly when I went out to stretch my legs a little. Sitting around all day and doing nothing felt like it was going to make me lose my sanity anytime soon.
What’s the duty of a Luna anyway? I have nothing to do.
“Are you tired?” Kasan’s arm slid around my back as we walked side by side, his head peeping over so he could take a quick glance over my face. “You’re sweating. Want me to carry you?”
More than a dozen footsteps could be heard trailing behind us, and the sound irritated me to the bone. I strictly told him I wanted to go out on my own, but he insisted on tagging along and also bringing a truck load of his men. Now we look like weirdos walking around on the street with men in black suits strolling behind us. Ugh! I should’ve left without telling him!
“I came to take a walk, why would you carry me?” I rolled my eyes. “And I literally told you not to just a moment ago. How many times will you ask the same thing?”
“But if you feel—”
“I’m fine.”
I’m not exactly a fan of this extra cautious Kasan. Being pregnant doesn’t mean I’m about to die, but that’s how he behaves, as if I’ll drop dead at any moment. He keeps asking me if I’m alright even if I merely walk down the stairs, he even insists on helping me shower!
Have I become a child just because ones growing inside my gut?
Still, he’s started to spend most of his time at home after what went on the other night, and I’ve been mostly enjoying the attention.
“Hey, Lucas!” I tugged on Kasan’s arm and halted, turning my head to look back at Lucas who walked behind us with the others, “You still got that weird thing you gave me yesterday?”
“Its just chocolate, not a ‘weird’ thing.” Lucas dipped a hand into his pocket with a sigh, pulling out a chocolate bar. “You want one or two?”
“Two, please! It tastes weird but it’s nice. How many do you actually have? You got like a big stash or something?”
“Around nine left? I only have two with me though. If you want, I can gi-”
“Oye! What are you doing?!” A grating voice cut off our conversation. Startled, I jolted slightly when a head popped out from behind Lucas, then scowled when I saw that it was only Ash.
“What the hell?”
“They’re mine, M. I. N. E! He bought it for me, not you. You already robbed one so stop being greedy! How dare you try to snatch my stuff?!”
“Robbed? Greedy?” I scoffed, “Why are you even here, stingy wench?”
“You should know by now that anywhere Lucas is, I’ll be there.” She flipped her hair as if proud of herself and to my utter annoyance, snatched the chocolate out of Lucas’ hand, grinning, “Besides, I can’t be left alone with the rest of the guys, they don’t like me.”
“We don’t like you either.”
“Lucas does. The twins like me too, maybe?” She glanced at Jace and Chase who were not too far beside beside them, narrowing her eyes, “You like me, right? I’ve been nice to you both since you’re pretty.”
They both stiffened under her gaze.
I smirked, “Ha! They clearly don’t. Kindly hand my chocolate over before I kill you.”
“They’re not yours, you greedy ass b—”
“Shut up, you two!” Kenley’s voice split through the air like a sharp edged knife and all lips sealed close in an instant, including mine. I craned my neck, spotting his figure at the very back surrounded by the rest of men. I flinched.
“You sound like stupid high school kids bickering over childish shit!” He fumed.
“This guy too?” I grumbled under my breath, clearing my throat as I shot a side glare over at Kasan, “Why’d you bring the mutt?”
He knows I’m always awkward in his company!
Kasan responded with a thrilled grin, “Can we be at peace at least for an hour? This is a peaceful walk among family. Let’s all be civil.”
Family my ass.
“Fine.” I shoved him off me, crossing my arms over my chest. “But you suck. You, him and that wench.”
“Clara, I have another chocolate if you want?” Chase offered. I looked to him as he jogged up to me while his hands ruffled through his pockets. He pulled out two small chocolate bars, outstretching them to me. I hesitantly took them from his palm, tilting my head as I examined them, “Are they good?”
“Yup, it’s a tiny gift from me to you. Congrats.”
It took a while to understand what the ‘congrats’ was meant for, but I shot him a smile once I realized. “Thanks.”
“I didn’t get any congrats gift.” Ash spoke up again, “Is this favoritism?”
“You took those.” Lucas pointed out, glancing at the ones she had completely crushed in her palm, “That’s your gift. Stop being silly.”
“This doesn’t count! Whatever. Let’s go buy that pretty dress over there.” She grabbed his arm, clinging onto him as if her life depended on it and pulling him across the street despite the clear reluctance on his face. They were heading towards some random clothes store with a few dresses on display at the front.
I snickered. I hope she chokes on those chocolates. She’s so freaking anno–
Wait.
Speaking of gifts, my necklace…!
“Kasan…” I turned to him, feeling my mood brighten quickly. I outstretched my palm and he looked down at it, raising his brow, “My necklace. You said you bought one. I’ll take it if it’s pretty.”
His face paled immediately. “T-The necklace?”
I narrowed my eyes, ears perking when his heart picked up it’s speed. “Oh… You lied? You didn’t buy a thing, did you?”
“No, I did!” He dug into his pockets and I cocked my hip, boring holes into his skull as both hands rustled his pants and came back out with absolutely nothing. Silence passed over us then, and even though all eyes were on us, no one said a word.
“It…uh…” He started to say, “…It seems I don’t have it with me.”
“You’re lying.” I stated bluntly, “I know for a fact that you are. Seriously? Did you also lie about going to the human store?”
“No! Absolutely not!” He was quick to deny my words yet his eyes darted everywhere but at me, “I…I did see one I wanted to buy but I didn’t get the chance. I’ll buy it later, or even now if you want. We can g-”
“How many lies have you told in the past half a minute?!”
Realizing that I wasn’t buying his bullshit, he looked to the side, gaze sweeping over his men then landing on a frowning Kenley for help. His eyes practically begged him to say anything that’d work in his favor, but Kenley’s frown only deepened the longer he stared at him.
“Don’t look at me, you’re pathetic.” Kenley grumbled. He then crossed his arms over his chest and shifted his eyes to me, “He’s been buying shitty kids stuff, I think? Was it meant to be some sort of secret?”
K-Kids stuff? Kasan? Is he serious?
“Why would you just blurt that out?!” Kasan ran a hand down his face.
I looked between them, stunned, “So, it’s true?” In the matter of a second my sour mood was quickly overpowered by the excitement rousing in my chest, “Really? What kind of ge-”
“Kasan!!!”
A loud enthusiastic scream made all eyes turn to three women as they rushed over in our direction. Triplets…they were all young, maybe in their twenties or so. They wore the exact same red dress, the exact same excited smile and their eyes were set on the exact same person.
Kasan.
I stood there completely dumbfounded as they collided with his figure, each of their arms wrapping around his body in a tight hug. Still, that wasn’t what shocked me to the core. Nuh-uh. It was when Kasan actually showed his pearly white teeth and slipped his hand up, returning the hug.
What the fuck? S-Since when was he chummy with anyone outside his pack? And to call him by name? Eh?
They pulled back after an awfully long few seconds and clung to his arm, two one side and one on the other. I grimaced. Those are my arms!
Am I invisible?!
“Kasan…” I squeezed his name out my mouth and grinded my teeth as I stepped over to him, digging my index finger into his back, “Who the hell are the—” I barely got to utter any words before they cut me off, running their mouths one after the other.
“Kasan, how long has it been?!”
“I heard you were in a pickle a while back, why didn’t you call us?!”
“You took all the fun for yourself, didn’t you? We could’ve totally kicked some asses too!”
“You haven’t visited dad’s pack for ages!”
“Are you throwing us aside? Have we become completely useless?!”
I clutched the back of Kasan’s shirt, yanking him out of their clutches and back to my side. He looked down at me and as if finally remembering my presence, his arm slipped around my waist. “Oh, I haven’t introduced you.”
“Oh my god, is this your mate?!” One of them finally looked pass him and to me, her eyes running down my figure more than three times over. The other two turned to me not long after, mirroring her rather rude stare. “Clara, was it? She’s well…petite? And looks sorta scary?”
Wow, I’ve actually been noticed.
“Who are these people?” I looked up at him expectantly.
“They’re the daughters of a close business partner.”
Daughters of a business partner? Still, why so awfully chummy? Is this supposed to be my jealousy era?
