KIARA’S POV:
Shoving the wolves aside, Nate straightened his back and relaxed his shoulders, locking his hands behind him as he sauntered forward. He moved almost gracefully through the night with his dark eyes trained on me, looking as if he was an untouchable figure who could never be harmed despite in the middle of a war.
I grinned. So, he thinks I won’t put a hole through his skull like I did that other mutt? Well, he thought wrong! I will make them all fear me…him and all his pathetic wolves!
The sound of a twig snapping and the low, animalistic breathing alarmingly close by made me lose focus, the thoughts whirling around in my mind ceasing. Alerted by the incoming danger, I snapped my head to the right, gaze landing on a wolf as it slowly crept towards me like a hungry predator. It was humongous and it’s fur was mostly brown in color with reddish lining on it’s back.
It’s heavy paws sunk into the ground when it neared me, sharp teeth on display whilst a loud growl escaped through it’s mouth. My golden eyes reflected in it’s brown ones, the hair on my skin bristling and my shoulders slouching slightly as an instinctual loud, challenging roar of my own rumbled up my chest following his. I bared my teeth and gripped both steels in each hand, whirling them between my fingers.
I didn’t miss it when it paused for a moment as if intimidated by my every move, but it did not back down. For that, I was excited. And with the growing amount of excitement running through my body, I felt alive to say the least. So, it was no surprise when my body threatened to shift on its own because of it.
I dug my teeth into my bottom lip til blood drifted across my tongue and took a long, deep breath in, burying the urge and keeping the human’s form in place.
I could sense it…
…that my first opponent… was not enough to require me to shift.
A second growl drifted from it’s mouth and I stood calmly in front of it, pulling one hand back and sliding one foot ahead of the other, poised to strike.
It made the first move, front legs bending slightly and it’s jaws snapping as it prepared to lunge. I didn’t move, I didn’t make another sound. I only…waited, until finally…it sprang forward.
I wielded the steel, launching it across with all the strength in my arm and hammering it into it’s head before its paws could reach me. The wolf let out a cry as it tumbled to ground before me, blood leaking from its head upon impact. It pawed at the wound, it’s body flittering like a bird struck from the sky.
I moved forward, pulling the steels behind me. Alerted by my movement, the wolf staggered to its feet almost immediately and snarled as it swung for my legs, an attempt to render me unable to move. I easily evaded the attack but it did not ease up, swinging at me again…this time aiming to slash it’s claws across my torso. It was big, but it’s movements were slow. I could see it all, which meant, I could also evade them all.
Swiftly, I pushed myself a step back and pivoted on my heel, then without holding back, I sent my right foot slamming into it’s head. It stumbled and that time was enough to sweep closer to it’s unguarded form, my hand swinging back before plunging the steel into it’s flesh, piercing through one eye and then through the other, completely ridding it of it’s sight.
A howl of pure terror split through the air as the wolf fell to the ground, it’s blood reddening it’s fur.
I grabbed ahold of the end of the steel and pulled it from its flesh before slamming my foot into it’s hind leg, hearing it crack. Another sharp cry filled the air, but I sent a hit to it’s head, breaking it’s jaw. I didn’t stop my assault at one hit, instead, I continued to dig my heel into it’s skull…again and again, listening to the satisfying sound of it’s bones breaking under the force.
When it finally ceased all it’s cries and stilled against the forest floor, I frowned, looking down at the now lifeless wolf.
It was definitely not trying to kill me, and for that reason…it’s attacks were not as exciting as I hoped.
Annoying…
A whistle came from the wolf’s disgusting excuse of an Alpha, and I looked to him, feeling my irritation rise as I watched him smack his hands together, applauding me with an impressed look on his face. It looked like he was trying to mock me, but beneath that, I could see it…that his demeanor wasn’t as confident as it was before.
Now, I’m more eager than ever to see him on his knees…!
I slid my feet back and raised one of the steels in preparation to send it flying through his chest, but my fingers loosened it’s grip when a certain voice blasted through the woods, almost making me lose my footing.
“Touch her and I swear I will rip every bone from your fucking body!”
A thunderous voice filled with both promise and overflowing animosity…?
It’s mate!
I turned in his direction, catching sight of mate as his veiny arms held down a white she-wolf by the neck. His eyes were trained on my figure despite the threat under and around him, the intensity of his gaze sending sweet chills down my spine.
A broad smile quickly formed at my lips and I could feel my whole body pulse with newfound euphoria. I gripped my chest when it’s thumps went out of control, gulping as I drunk in his appearance, “M-Mate~”
Mate did not mirror my smile, but I was not any less excited. I have been looking forward to this moment from the very first time I manifested, the moment we meet. Mate and I!
I must make mate proud! I must make mate need us!
“Scary! I’m scared…!” A taunting chuckle broke the moment and my eye twitched, having no choice but to tear my gaze away from mate and resettle my attention on him.
“Not!” Nate continued to approach me further, his grinning lips making it quite clear that he wasn’t concerned by the threat. “You’d better deal with those hungry wolves before you make any threats, Alpha~”
Mate clenched his jaw as his lengthened claws sunk into the she-wolf’s neck, then without hesitance, he began slamming it’s head into the hard ground mercilessly. Blood pooled under it’s head but he didn’t let up until the hair on its back fell as life left it’s body.
That must’ve been the woman who arrived later into the battle…
Rising to his feet, mate cracked his neck, claws digging into his own palm as his golden orbs shined bright through the darkness. His feet turned in Nate’s direction, blood dripping down his skin and a deadly glint in his eyes one could not miss.
Vaguely, I saw Nate flinch in spot the second he stepped off, but with a simple flick of his hand, his stupid wolves blocked mate’s path and completely caged him in spot.
Yet as if anticipating that move, mate didn’t think twice before reaching back and grasping the dead she-wolf by it’s fur, launching it’s lifeless body at his opponents. Then he lunged forward, swiftly grabbing whoever he could grasp and crushing their necks with just the bare strength in his arms.
Bodies were piled in a matter of moments as enemy wolves dropped like flies, but I could tell clearly that mate wasn’t thinking straight with the wave of emotions rushing through our bond.
He must think I’m about to be killed by this mutt right here. Haah. This is my chance…isn’t it? My chance to show him that I’m far from a weakling. The human, yes. But me…? I am a bloody wolf that fears no one! A mere coward who hides behind his pack can never beat me!
“Clara, get back to the fucking shed!” Mate boomed.
My frown deepened, “My name is Kiara. And I’m not going back. Here…right now, I will show you how useful I will be to you, mate.”
“Brilliant bravery, Kira or whatever! Both the wolf and the human are fierce, bravo!” Their leader spoke again, his eyes leering as he slowly closed the distance between us bit by bit, “But you do know that if you impale me with that weapon of yours, my wolves will rip him to shreds, don’t you?”
I cocked my hip, scoffing. “My mate takes care of himself.”
“Not your mate…but your brother.”
Brother?
A wolf came from behind him, the steel that I had launched through its head still in place. And in its jaws, was a limp Lucas, blood draining down his chest as it’s teeth sunk into his skin.
How the fuck is it not dead?!
My priority switched in an instant and I quickly shifted my attention away from Nate. But that was a suicidal move on my part because the second my eyes were on Lucas, Nate’s feet took off running at full speed. And I knew for sure that he was heading straight for me.
He’s playing dirty, I see. He keeps proving himself to be nothing more than a slimy coward…
Gritting my teeth, I switched targets and hoisted the steel, pulling my hand back and aiming, then quickly launching. This time, I went for it’s chest and just as I hoped, it was an on point hit to it’s heart. It’s teeth loosened in an instant, a bloody Lucas falling to the ground with it.
I wasted no time in shifting my position, but with Nate’s feet quickly covering the distance between us, I barely managed to aim before releasing the last steel in his direction… all of a sudden, every thing went silent. I watched as it surged through the air, and felt myself release a breath I didn’t know I was holding when it finally pierced through his chest.
He stiffened just a few steps in front of me, eyes bulging like saucers as he stumbled back. His face visibly paled and his hand reached up, trembling fingers climbing his bleeding chest. His index barely managed to graze the steel before he lost his footing, falling to his knees against the hard ground. The steel that pierced through him kept him upright as coughs after coughs rose up his throat along with the crimson red I’d been wanting to see.
I made absolute sure not to touch his heart but any sudden moves…could be quite lethal for him. I can already hear his breathing slowing.
This…is the fun part, isn’t it?
“Now you’re finally kneeling…as you should.” A triumphant smirk graced my lips as I moved off, waltzing over to his body and sinking my fingers into his hair. I pulled his head back…hard, forcing him to look up at me through his slit eyes. “You look better like this, rather than waltzing around with that awful smug look on your face. You know…” I lifted my foot, ramming it into his shoulder as my free hand wrapped around the steel, twisting it torturously slow through his flesh, “… I’m not a forgiving person, especially after you’ve tried to make use of us as if we’re stupid lab rats…but beg if you wish, I might just let you live.”
At that, I was rewarded with a glare, a glare so intense that it made my insides tingle. His lips quaked slightly as they clamped together, trying hard to hold in his groans. I grinned wider. “What was that about ripping brother to shreds?” I retracted the steel from his skin and tossed it aside, then whilst blood leaked from his chest, I pulled his head further back and dug my claws into the wound, “Which part of you must I get rid of fi-”
“Clara, I said get the fuck out of here!” Mate’s voice sounded again…closer this time, and instinctively, my head snapped towards him.
“That’s an order!”
An order? From mate?
I pulled back and wiped my claws against my shirt, scrunching up my face as I watched him bulldoze his way through the wolves, grabbing a barely conscious Lucas by the collar and making a sudden dash in my direction.
What is he doing? Is he trying to retreat?!
No, mate wouldn’t do that. He is not a coward! Rather, it seems he is trying to protect us…
“Kiara doesn’t need to be protected!” I told him, “I am wolf, I am not like the pathetic human. I refuse to leave. You…you are ma—huh?” The feeling of fingers sliding over my ankle made my eyes widen, words dying on my tongue. The next thing I knew, hands had already grabbed me by both feet and… I was falling…!
