“Are you ready?” Kasan stopped beside me, placing his hand on my shoulder.
“I’ve been ready.”
I was standing in the middle of nowhere with my loaded gun resting on my shoulder and my head slightly tilted backwards as I stared up at a crooked old shed. The houses around these parts were either burnt to crisps or torn down and this little shed was buried pretty deep in. It took a while to get here, but the distance didn’t drain my excitement.
Just as Lucas said, Kasan had taken me with him. I was skeptical at first because it was kinda odd but here I am, on some badass mission to catch the nightwalker person. Lucas was by my side too, which I was happy about. Today, we’d find the bitch that shot him then we’d tear him apart together.
That is what I’d call bonding.
“Are you sure you’re okay?” I asked Lucas for the umpteenth time since we had set out. Kasan scoffed at that, but I ignored him. “You could stay in the car if you want. You don’t need to listen to everything Kasan says.”
“No, I’m alright. It doesn’t hurt anymore.” Lucas gave me a soft smile, rolling his shoulders and outstretching his arms so I could see.
He does look fine, but I’m still a bit worried.
“You know…” Kasan jumped in, the hand on my shoulder slipping over my neck. “I was planning on leaving YOU in the car but you’re looking pretty excited. Should I burst your happy bubble and let you sit this one out?”
My mood quickly sunk. “You wouldn’t dare.” Scowling, I slapped his hand off me and turned to jab my gun into his arm. “I’ll seriously shoot you if you let me stay out here. Tell me you aren’t serious and I’ll spare you.”
I jabbed him another time, harder than the first. It wasn’t a surprise when instead of wincing, he bit his lips to hold in his laughter. My scowl deepened. “I’m really tempted to shoot you.” I deadpanned.
He finally let out a laugh, stepping back a few steps and holding up his hands in surrender. “You wouldn’t actually shoot me, would you?”
I rolled my eyes. “When are we going in? I wanna hurry up and get down to business.”
“The others are clearing the field first.”
“What?”
Others?
Oh! I forgot Kasan had brought a few other wimps with us including Kenley– but they were walking ahead of us last I saw. Where did they run off to?
“I told them to make sure the place is clear before you went in. Your safety matters the most, Princess.” He grinned.
Just then, grunts and loud gunshots sounded from inside the shed. My eyes quickly widened in realization. He’s letting em rob all the fun?!
Cursing under my breath, I stalked off towards the shed, Lucas following behind me without a word. I hate how he does everything I say and follow whatever I do like a robot. But I can’t really complain, right? I’ve said this one too many times but he’s better than how he was before.
“I’ll go in first.” As we pulled up to the entrance, Lucas outstretched his arm in front of me, obstructing my path.
He’s like a bodyguard.
The wooden door was already half open when Lucas pushed it and we stepped inside. Dust bombarded us left and right and I had to cover my face for a few moments to prevent myself from sneezing.
When I looked around, the last of the gunfire had ended. Bodies were on the floor, meanwhile, Kasan’s men were rummaging around the place. The men on the floor had nasty claw marks and gunshot wounds on their skin, but there was only one who was still moving…probably the boss here. I guess Kenley was the one who did the shooting.
Ugh! I so wanna punch him!
“Now, I hope you’ll be willing to disclose some useful information?” Kasan came up from behind, stepping over the guy and waltzing around the place. His nails scraped across a table filled with guns while his eyes looked over into an open suitcase packed with money that was leaning against the wall. I could also see bags of what seemed to be coke peeking out among the cash. How’d they get so much cash and guns in their hands? Did they steal from their boss? Seriously? That’s like suicide!
“Get out.” Kasan stuffed one hand into his pocket, chin gesturing to the guys who were currently still in the middle of searching the place. The men filed out as commanded, but just as Kenley was about to move off with them, Kasan grabbed him by the shoulder, his hold looking a bit too tight. “You stay.”
Obviously, that ‘get out’ didn’t refer to me nor Lucas since he didn’t utter a word in our direction despite us staying rooted in place. Does that mean he doesn’t suspect Lucas anymore?
“So, are you ready to talk? Any useless thing you say will cost you a limb.” Kasan stooped in front of the half-dead man and Kenley stood behind him like a lost puppy. Kenley looked different from the usual, kinda like he was nervous. But why? Are they not on good terms? I couldn’t tell what the matter was, but the tension between the two was thick.
“I don’t…” The guy coughed, blood evicting from between his split lips. “…k-know… anything I s-swear!” His bloodied fingers clenched down on the floor and he helplessly pushed himself backwards, frightened eyes bulging to the largest extent I’ve seen. His legs were sliced through several times and rendered pretty much useless so his attempt at getting away was quite funny to watch.
“I don’t waste time on useless things, which means, if you really know nothing, then you gotta die.” Kasan grasped him by his right foot and pulled him downwards, closing all distance between them both. Then, like the ruthless person he was, his fingers tightened around his foot and with one hard twist, a crack was heard.
I winced. Is that how he treated my father that day?
The guy’s face paled even more than before, and his lips parted but he could hardly even manage a scream. He was losing a lot of blood so he’d most likely die anyway if we left him here, but he probably didn’t know that.
“I’ll give you ten seconds to think of something good.” Kasan’s face hardened as he grasped the other leg, twisting it harder than he did the first. Another crack sounded. “If you can do that for me, I’ll consider not breaking every single bone in your body.”
He grunted in pain, his hands trying once more to push his body away. Again, it was futile.
Kasan didn’t wait for even five seconds to pass before he stretched over with ease and took ahold of his pinky finger, bending it backwards.
But just before the bone could crack, words slipped through the man’s lips. “The b-boss is…” He swallowed the mix of blood and spit in his mouth as he struggled to speak. “T-The b-boss…” He tried to repeat, his battered body trembling on the floor.
Rolling his eyes, Kasan eased the pressure he had on his finger and rose an expectant brow as if telling him to continue.
The guy’s lips opened again, this time barely. They then moved very slowly, making every word as low as a whisper. But somehow, I could hear every bit of it. “…is dead. A-Another guy s-suddenly took over… I h-heard he’s…. b-boss’s son.”
My breath hitched, surprise making me stiffen in place. The riders’ boss is dead?!
And as if that wasn’t the most ridiculous thing he could ever come up with, he even continued on to say his son took over?
He obviously couldn’t be talking about Kasan. Then, does he mean Kenley…?!
What kind of fucking nonsense is he saying?!
