Book:Mated To The Ruthless Alpha King Published:2024-6-5

Sarah walked up the stairs with both her hands occupied by the large tray she was holding. Trixie and Haguy happened to mention a few minutes ago that they were craving fried chicken, but since Damon wasn’t home, they weren’t sure if they could go get some without his prior permission. Sarah had heard them talking when she passed the living room and immediately saw it as the perfect opportunity to busy herself. The thing is, her mind was doing more work than she could even manage so she needed a getaway.
Damon had started to treat her somewhat nice and she wasn’t sure how she should perceive it. Yesterday she tripped and fell to the floor and he almost dragged her out of the house saying that she needed to go to the infirmary. It was funny how he had watched her fall from a high stair without batting an eye, but was now getting worried over a simple little misstep. And what’s worse, he even brought her a whole box of chocolates the day before, claiming that it was a gift and that she should be happy because an alpha king rarely ever shows consideration. Up until now she was still baffled by it.
What was she to make of this? Did he want them to finally start acting like mates?… or was he simply doing this because he felt guilty for the way he treated her? Or did he lose a few screws after they mated? She hadn’t arrived at a solid conclusion as yet, but there was a possibility that her mind would explode sooner or later if she continued to think so hard on it.
So she had grabbed the first opportunity to get him out of her mind… and she had done a pretty good job because while she was preparing the food, he hadn’t crossed her mind… not even once. What she hadn’t actually done a good job at was frying. Fried chicken? It didn’t seem hard… all she needed was oil, season and chicken. Though, despite her thoughts, she still managed to make the chicken look inedible.
But it’d have to do.
She kept the tray tight in her hands as she climbed the stairs, taking each step carefully to prevent falling… for a second time. When she knocked on the door and pushed her way inside, Trixie and Haguy were lounging in the room, chatting about something that Sarah didn’t quite catch.. not that she wanted to.
“Sarah?” Trixie sat up in the bed, while Haguy stepped away from the window and moved closer to her confusedly, eyes darting from the tray to Sarah then back again.
“I b-brought you both some food. You said you wanted f-fried chicken right?” Sarah said, feeling a bit queasy under their gaze.
They looked over at each other. At first, Sarah thought that they would have declined, judging by the uncertainty that circled in both their eyes. But then, Haguy finally dismantled that thought by stepping forward and slipping her palms beneath the tray. “Thanks.” She was looking away when she said that, but Sarah still managed to notice the guilt that ran amok in her eyes. She cocked her head. Now that she thought about it, they barely even locked eyes with her for the pass few days. If it were any other time, they’d send her hateful glances or scowl at her every chance they got. But for some reason, their hate had now changed to guilt. Why?
Instead of turning around and returning to her room, Sarah opened her mouth and asked the question that lingered in her mind. “Is there something wrong?” The hesitance was as clear as day in Trixie’s eyes, so Sarah quickly shifted her gaze over to Haguy who stiffened upon eye contact, but spilled nonetheless. She was the most talkative/daring one of the two.
“Well…” She twisted her fingers together, much like what Sarah does when she’s nervous. “W-We’ve been wanting to say sorry for–” She gulped then exhaled deeply to calm down her nerves. “–the way we treated you since you arrived. It’s just that Alexis had been with us from the start and you just showed up out of nowhere.”
“Yeah.” Trixie nodded in agreement, her voice excessively lower than Haguy’s as if she was embarrassed to say what was on her mind. “And we should’ve known that Alexis was the one who plotted everything. Someone like you wouldn’t run with rogues. You’re not even a werewolf.”
If anyone said Sarah had expected that from both of them… it would’ve been a big fat lie. But knowing that they probably didn’t hate her as much anymore, did make her feel a little less nervous around them. However, there was a stupid thought that climbed out of nowhere and staked its claim in her mind… If Damon wanted to work this mate thing out… would it be like four person relationship? excluding Alexis of course. She was nowhere to be seen anyway…
Or would he get rid of both them?
Sarah almost felt like slapping herself. What kind of thought was that. They were here first so if anything, she was the one who needed to be thrown out. And what kind of heartless bitch would be thinking of having them kicked out right after they apologized?
She quickly shook that thought away and mumbled quietly, “it’s fine.”
Both girls sighed in relief. “Then I guess we can be friends then, right?!”
It was creepy to hear them both talk in unison, but Sarah found their words grabbing most of her attention instead of that. Friends? Sarah didn’t have any friends… not after being picked up off the streets. There were some girls at the dungeon who were nice to her and all but they had not labelled themselves as friends or anything. Nobody even had time to think about friends when they’re in that kind of hellhole…. Which was why she was so taken aback right now.
Maybe if she was still living in the dungeons, she would’ve curled up into a ball and rocked herself to sleep without answering but now, she was quite tempted to do things a little differently and accept their offer of being friends. It wasn’t like she was under ravage or anything and things seemed to be getting better rather than worse. So if they really meant that, then it wouldn’t hurt to make a few friends while she had the chance, right? Who knows, she might even die tomorrow.
Sarah’s eyes shifted between the two expectant girls and then she nodded slowly, causing their faces to light up with a contagious smile. “Let’s get started then!” Haguy bounced on her feet as she headed over to the bed where Trixie was seated and settled the tray atop it. “Sarah hurry up and make yourself comfortable… and Trix, there’s alcohol downstairs, go get it.”
Trixie quickly hurried off out the door, while Sarah stood in place with a dumb expression on her face. “I d-don’t drink alcohol.” She pointed out, rubbing the back of her neck in embarrassment.
Haguy moved closer and threw an arm over her shoulder. “You’re drinking and its final. We’re leaving in a few days so we’ve gotta make the most of it.”
“You’re leaving?”
“Yeah, Damon’s finally decided to get rid of us… though we like to think of it as him finally giving us our freedom. He promised to keep us safe from those dimwits who keep walking around capturing women. I don’t know why he’s being so generous all of a sudden.” She chuckled at her own words, “Meeting you must’ve chipped off a few traits.”
Sarah’s eyes travelled over to the wall, as she became unfocused on the world around her. ‘Why did he do that?’ She wondered. They even looked like they’ve been here long, like really really long before she came. Why get rid of them all of a sudden?
Sarah nearly jumped out of her skin when Haguy slapped her on the back then came to stand in front of her, a stern look on her face. “Why do you look so surprised? Do you think I don’t know that you guys have been getting it on?” She laughed when Sarah stiffened and flushed with red. “You’re mates, Sarah. He doesn’t need anyone else but you.”
“But I don’t underst–”
“I’ve got the liquor!” Trixie finally came in while hoisting the liquor in the air with her chest heaving up and down rapidly. All earlier conversations were instantly forgotten as Haguy quickly grabbed a reluctant Sarah and pulled her towards the bed where the fried chicken was waiting to be touched. “Time to party!”
