Sarah shifted to get herself comfortable as she struggled to comb through Damon’s hair. After he managed to force Jason out of the house, he had demanded that they finished what they had started. At first, she had been covered with red when she made the mistake of thinking that he was talking about intimate things. But then, he managed to burst her bubble by enlightening her of the fact that he was referring to his half finished hair. Of course, she wasn’t supposed to feel disappointed because considering their half sour, half evolving relationship, she was in no position to covet anything that Damon could give her… and in this case what she shouldn’t covet was… pleasure.
She had accepted his rather sloppy apology… if she could even call it that. But that didn’t mean that they had suddenly become best buddies! Damon was still Damon… reserved and impassive, if you disregarded that one time when he happened to smile without even realizing it. So naturally, she was still wary around him and awkward at times. She wasn’t really sure if she could embrace her feelings despite still being at a stagnant point in their relationship. Which is why, for a while, she strongly denied feeling disappointed by him forgetting their unfinished… well, business.
But looking at herself now in the mirror, she could tell that she wasn’t all that unbothered by it. Her downturned lips and the reluctance evident in her slow movements as she combed his hair, was obviously as a result of her disappointment. But she would never let him know that… never.
“I’m almost f-finished.” She said after a while. She combed through the last portion of his hair softly then settled the comb down on the mattress before dropping her butt against the heel of her feet, causing the bed to jerk slightly. Damon didn’t even bother to check how his hair looked, he got up, turned his chair towards her then plopped back down. The action made her notice that his eyes were filled with resentment that she knew not where it stemmed from.
“Why aren’t you asking me?”
Sarah cringed. “Asking y-you what?”
“You asked Liam a bunch of questions, yet you haven’t done the same for me. Why? Am I that uninteresting as compared to him?”
For a few times now, Sarah kept on getting the feeling that Damon was jealous… now included. And each time it happened, she always threw that thought out the window, but now, she was almost positive that it was the truth. Why else would he say something of that sort?
“N-No.” She agreed hesitantly. “That never came to mind bec-” she quickly changed her words midway when his glare intensified. “Liam already t-told me all there is to k-know about you w-while he was in c-control. I didn’t want to w-waste your t-time by asking you a-again.”
She sighed in relief when he didn’t flare up again, assuming that he somewhat agreed to what she said. However, sadly, her relief didn’t last much long because with just another few words from him, she was thrown back into her emotional turmoil.
“Alright then.” He nodded. “Well come on. Let’s head to bed.” He jerked his head towards the bed then got out of the chair and climbed unto the mattress. He scooted upwards until he was lying on his back with his head resting on his elbow. “The rain just started up… it’s the best time to sleep.”
While he was getting cozy in bed, Sarah’s head was going into overdrive.
Come on? COME ON!? Was he saying that she should sleep beside him? Like body to body and heat to heat?
Breathing out a long breath, Sarah shook away the images that landed in her mind, images that’d be utterly disastrous if they turned into reality. Sleeping in a bed together wouldn’t be good for her… not at all.
“Uh… I can s-sleep in my o-own room.” She muttered, declining in the most politest way she could.
Damon frowned and sat up. “You’re not sleeping in your room anymore. I’ve already prepared to move your things here.”
“Here?”
“Yes, this is where you’ll be sleeping from now on.” He said it simply, but Sarah didn’t think his words were as trivial as he made it sound… not at all. “You’re gaping…” He pointed out after studying her expression. “Are you happy, surprised or both?”
Sarah quickly closed her lips and shifted over on the bed. The finality in his words and the pokerface he used when he said it, told her that she didn’t have an option. But despite that, Sarah still persisted to decline. Stepping off the bed one foot at a time, she went to sit on the floor, all the while tensing at the eyes that never left her body as she moved. “I’ll s-sleep here and you c-can take the bed. I p-prefer the floor since I’m u-used to it.”
Damon sucked on his teeth, his sharp eyes stabbing daggers through her skin. He didn’t understand her one bit. Trixie and Haguy would’ve been elated if he asked them to sleep with him, yet the woman before him was apparently looking for ways to avoid exactly that. Though it was bothersome, he was trying to get them to be closer, just enough that she could be in a room with him and not freak out. But at this rate that wouldn’t happen, not when she was refraining from going anywhere near him.
The sooner she got used to him the better because he had other things to do… things that had to do with Maxim and his rogues. Though if he thought about it, he wasn’t so sure what part sleeping together played in that. But all he knew was that the mere thought tickled his insides. So he’d get her to sleep with him, one way or another.
“Fine.” He said, voice lowering considerably. “Then since you’re comfortable sleeping on the floor, I’ll sleep on the floor as well.” Without waiting for the refusal he knew he’d get, Damon quickly grabbed his pillow and his duvet and climbed his way off the bed then to the floor. Sarah immediately got ready to shuffle away the moment he stepped down, but he grabbed her arm just in time and pulled her back down.
Sarah tensed, her breath stuck in her throat. For once, she was rational enough to try to wiggle out of his hold, but to her dismay, Damon wouldn’t let her free. He released her arm, settled the pillow down and swiftly wrapped both of his arms around her waist before she could escape him. Then without giving her a chance to breathe, he allowed himself to fall freely against the floor while taking her down with him.
“Relax… Don’t try to move away and don’t tell me no. I’m not going to eat you, Sarah.” Damon attempted to coax her, his arm tightening around her waist. “It’s just sleeping… nothing more.”
Sarah knew that already yet it was quite hard to think of it so lightly. But there was no getting out of Damon’s clutches so she’d have to suck it up… no matter how hard that is.
She could feel it all, from the heat caressing her body to the breath tickling skin. It was all too much for her to ignore for more than a second but somehow, within a few minutes, her eyes began to get droopy.
…. she didn’t know how and she didn’t know when, but she managed to fall asleep to the sound of his breathing.
