It was around 11am in the morning and Sarah and Liam had been cooped up in the room all morning. No, they weren’t shagging each other over and over. Frankly, they already had enough of that yesterday… though Sarah was the only one who thought so. Right now, she was standing between Liam’s legs trying to get to know a little bit about him as she did her best to comb out all the knots in his messy hair.
So far, she found out 5 things:
1. He liked to eat raw meat. It was very disturbing to hear something like that after having shoved her tongue down his throat, but Sarah swallowed her vomit nonetheless as she didn’t want to have Liam feel bad about himself. He’s a wolf and she’s a human, so there was bound to be differences… disgusting differences. But she could handle it… as long as she doesn’t think too hard on it.
2. He hates humans… obviously that excludes her. He probably didn’t have a good history with them, judging by the way he was frowning when he told her.
3. He liked when she played with his hair. At the moment, he was smiling from ear to ear with his eyes closed, seeming to be basking in the pleasure of having her combing his hair. He didn’t even flinch whenever she tugged at a few strands, he just kept that relaxed look on his face as if he felt nothing at all.
4. In her opinion, he wasn’t the same as Damon… Rather than spitting on their mate bond, he seemed to treasure it… even more so than she ever did. Since yesterday, he had been complementing her and telling her how glad he was to have her as a mate. Obviously, the experience was kinda terrifying at first since she had never received such complements before, but she was slowly but surely getting used to it.
Damon on the other hand, has never once said anything of that sort to her, neither with words nor actions. Instead, he seemed as skeptical about this mate thing as she was… despite the fact that he’s the one who’s a werewolf.
And 5. Even though he always speaks ill of Damon, it seemed as if he liked him… a lot. He was all Damon this and Damon that every second of the day… and that single moment when you think he’s actually talking about something different for once, it always manages to lead back to Damon in the end. It’s like he can’t stop talking about him… even now.
“Something I like aside from meat?… well I don’t know, maybe chocolate. Damon likes it too.” Liam shrugged his shoulders, slightly tilting his head back and widening his smile as he relaxed in his spot. “But I do know that aside from talking about all this unnecessary stuff, there’s something else that I’d wanna do.”
Sarah’s hand that was combing his hair came to an immediate halt and her cheeks lit up with red. Liam chuckled. “I was just kidding… relax, Sarah.”
“I k-know.” Sarah said softly, yet she knew for a fact that he wasn’t kidding. The suggestive voice he used and the way he bit his lip when he said that, made her come to that conclusion. But she wouldn’t succumb to his temptation. If that happened she’d only end up embarrassing herself… again.
“So what’s your favourite colour?” She tried to change the subject after clearing her throat.
“Black… Damon likes black too.”
And yet again, he mentioned Damon. Sarah couldn’t help but frown. It wasn’t that she hated Damon to the point where she didn’t want to hear his name, but it was just that she and Liam only had a few hours left together. She wanted to get as much information about him as she could. And then there’s the fact that Damon would be around 24/7 while she’d only get to see Liam once in a while. If she had the liberty of choosing then she’d probably have it the other way around since Damon’s always so grumpy, rude and reserved. Plus, he doesn’t even have any interest in her nor their bond.
“Why do you keep mentioning Damon?” Sarah dropped her hands from his hair and brought them to her side, her eyes staring down at him as she awaited his answer. “… I asked about you.”
Liam sat up straighter on the bed and opened his eyes, his million dollar grin finally leaving his face. Truthfully, it was kinda scary to see him look at her with that same aloof look that Damon always sends her way, but when he took her hand and kissed the back of it, all her worries seemed to dissolve into nothingness.
“Because Damon’s not going to tell you himself… atleast not now.” Liam said, sighing heavily as if explaining it all was a very hard task. “He’s not like other people, Sarah. He doesn’t just spit out everything about himself to any and everybody like I do. But trust me when I say that he has a reason for that…” That last sentence got Sarah’s ears perked up. Maybe it was the fact that she was finally going to know the origins of Damon’s bad temper that made her a little too interested. “I know he didn’t treat you all that well, but you have to understand. He’s not as bad as you think. It’s just that he’s been betrayed too many times in his life so now he’s cautious around people… especially around you since you and Kate are both his ma–”
Just when Sarah was ready to hear the word that resounded in her head without him even saying it, Liam went into a coughing fit. Throwing the comb on the bed, Sarah hesitantly reached out and patted his back softly, her body leaning down slightly so she could whisper to him, “What were you about to say?” She pressed, tucking her hair behind her ear when it fell over her face.
“Water…” He coughed. “I need water.”
“Oh right!” Blinking, Sarah quickly jumped into action, rushing out of the room and down the stairs. As she hurried towards the kitchen, she happened to bump into Trixie and Haguy. She was in a hurry so she only apologized softly and carried on, but she still didn’t miss the sad looks they threw at her. If it were any other time, she would’ve probably paid a little more attention to their change in behaviour but at that moment she wasn’t really mindful of anything.
Without taking a second glance at them, she grabbed a bottle of water from the fridge and hurried back up to the room. But her haste completely went in vane because when she opened the door, Damon looked perfectly fine. He wasn’t coughing anymore, he was simply staring at her from head to toe.
Sarah’s brows furrowed. “Are you okay?”
“I’m fine.” He answered simply, turning his head away and looking towards the wall. He didn’t seem playful like he always was and he didn’t seem aloof either… he looked rather upset. But for what??
“So what were you about to say just now? You said something about someone called Katie and me… You weren’t going to say ‘mates’ right? I mean that’s ridiculous since you only have one mate, but that’s the first thing that came to mind so…” She gave him an expectant look while fiddling with the bottle in her hand, expecting him to rid her of her confusion.
He sighed. “Who said anything about mates? Don’t put words in my mouth and just forget I said anything. Damon hates it when I talk about him.”
‘Then why did you say anything in the first place?’ Sarah thought, her eyes narrowing in on his figure. Setting the bottle on the floor, she closed the door behind her and walked further into the room. She stopped in front of him and shifted awkwardly on her feet. She wasn’t really sure if she was supposed to continue combing his hair or what since he kinda seemed upset.
“Are you just gonna stand there?” He broke the silence after a while, his eyes travelling back over to her. “Come sit.”
Sarah scampered over to the bed and hesitantly took a seat a few inches away from him, all the while feeling his eyes boring into her soul. Despite feeling his stare, she didn’t look over at him, fearing that making eye contact would make her get flustered again and may or may not tempt her till she did something that she shouldn’t do…. well putting it as shouldn’t do was a bit off… ‘something they should put off for a while’ fitted better there. Atleast until she got a grip of herself… and doesn’t make a fool of herself during sex. Sarah mentally face palmed when she remembered the words she had said yesterday.
‘Punish me, Alpha.’
What the hell was she even thinking?!
She was lucky that Liam didn’t mention anything about it… yet. Or else, she’d totally die of embarrassment.
Sarah instantly discarded her thoughts when she felt hands press against her waist and lift her into the air, spreading tingles along her skin. Then suddenly, instead of sitting against the soft mattress, she found her butt pressed against his thighs. “Wha—What are yo-”
“Shhh. Just stay still for a moment.” He mumbled with a bit of annoyance in his tone, dropping his head unto her shoulder as if he had done it a million times before. He didn’t need to tell her to stay still, because she was already stiff in her place the moment he touched her waist. Despite having been around Liam all day yesterday and today, one would think she’d have gotten used to him already. And yes, that was actually the case to some extent, but only if he warned her before he touched her. Just touching her out of the blue could give her a heart attack, especially since the tingles seemed to have become worse after they mated.
“W-Why?”
He snaked his arms around her and shifted his head on her shoulder so that he was facing her neck. “I want to get a good whiff of your scent.” He breathed in her delectable scent as his hot breath mercilessly fanned her skin, causing goosebumps to rise. “It has been a while since I’ve smelled anything so addictive.”
“But I-”
“Are you still flustered around me?” He eased off her shoulder and frowned, frustrated lines forming on his forehead. “I’m sure you aren’t this flustered when you’re with Liam. What? You don’t want me to touch you because I’m not him?” He rolled his eyes and scoffed, “You readily d-” he quickly held his tongue when Sarah twisted around on his lap and he saw the look of terror cross her features.
But his words had already reached her ears so there was definitely no turning back now.
“D-Damon?”
