Jerald gasped as he turned to his sister.
“Wow! I’ve never glowed before when I came here.” Lynn said as she looked at herself, her skin was glistening.
“That means she’s meant to be part of the quest somehow.” Margaret said.
“Maybe she’ll be the one to lead us to the cave we’re looking for. But the only problem is, the cave I was born in was in rogue territory. It was being chased that made my mother end up in the cave in the first place.” Silver said.
“This area used to belong to rogues a while back before we claimed it as pack territory. They still come around once in a while to see if they can reclaim it. Those rocks form a steep hill. We can try going around the lake to see if we can find an entrance on higher ground.” Jerald said.
“No. The entrance we need to go through is under water.” Lynn said.
“How do you know that?” Vance asked.
“I don’t know… I just do.” Lynn replied.
“She’s the one glowing, so I guess we should just follow her.” Hayden said.
“I agree.”
“Lead the way then, Lynn.” Silver said to her.
“What do you think you’re doing?” Jerald asked his sister with a frown as she began to take off her clothes.
“We need to swim to get to our destination, do you intend to do that while fully clothed?” Lynn asked him with a sceptical look.
“I’m not letting you get undressed while Carson is here.” Jerald said to her.
“I’m not the only unmated male here.” Carson mumbled.
“I won’t let you undress while he’s here either, Silver.” Hayden said as he scowled at Carson.
“That’s harsh, dude. I wasn’t even looking her way.” Carson huffed.
“You’re the only one here with zero self control and it will earn you more than a punch in the face because you have no boundaries at all.” Thomas said to Carson with a frown.
“I have more than enough self control, I just decide not to use it.” Carson said with a shrug.
“Enough bickering, let’s just swim with our clothes on. A little water won’t kill anyone. If we need to change to wolf form, we’ll all end up naked anyway.” Keith said.
“But I’m not going in with my shoes, I just bought this pair last week.” Lynn said as she bent to take off her shoes.
“Ditto. I hate walking in soggy shoes.” Maggie said and removed hers.
“I hate walking barefoot, so I’ll keep my shoes on.” Silver said.
Minutes later,, they all jumped into the lake and began to swim towards the rocks while following Lynn. She followed her instincts and soon, they resurfaced at an opening underneath one of the rocks. Lynn got out first and the others followed but they couldn’t go further.
“We’re definitely at the right place. The cave is covered in silver, just like the one my mother said she birthed me in.” Silver said.
“So what do we do now? We can’t go further because of the silver, it’s everywhere, there’s no way to avoid it.” Lynn said.
“We don’t need to avoid it.” Silver said as she moved to the front, then she sighed as she began to take off her shoes.
“It seems like I have to walk barefoot after all.” She said with a frown as she put her foot on the part of the floor where the silver started.
“Silver doesn’t hurt you. Is that why you were named Silver?” Lynn asked with surprise and curiousity written on her face.
“Something like that. Everyone form a straight chain and hold on. As long as you’re all connected to me by touch, the silver won’t hurt you.” Silver said and they all did as she asked.
“Wow, it doesn’t even hurt a little.” Lynn said as they walked with their hands linked into the cave.
As they walked further into the cave, there was an opening at the top that let in moonlight.
“That must be where my mother fell through to get into the cave, but I don’t see a flower.” Silver said as she looked around.
“Maybe we shouldn’t be looking for a flower. We found the gem in a stone last time.” Margaret said.
“Well then, that must be it.” Jerald said.
There was a little withered stem with a dying bud in front of them around the area where the moonlight coming through the top of the rock hit the floor.
“That can’t be it.” Lynn said.
“It looks so dry and dead.”
“Well, things are not always what they appear to be, we learned that recently.” Margaret said.
“It’s worth a shot. I don’t see anything else in here that could be what we’re supposed to be looking for.” Raymond said.
“So, what do we do then?”
“Why is everyone looking at me?” Lynn said.
“You’re the one that is glowing, aren’t you? You’re supposed to know what to do, I mean, you led us here.” Carson said.
“I don’t even know why I’m glowing. If any more weird, random instructions on what to do pop into my head, I’ll be sure to let you all know.” Lynn replied to him with a scowl.
“Well, when I saw the flower, it was illuminated by the light of the half moon, so let’s start from there.” Silver said.
“In case you didn’t notice, the half moon is illuminating the whole space around the reed.”
“No, not like that. It was more like a spotlight focused on the flower when I saw it.” Silver said.
“How are we supposed to make the moon shine on the flower alone?”
