Chapter 10 The Oracle II

Book:The Awakening Published:2024-5-1

“Days turned into weeks, weeks into months, and the War pack Luna had a child, the only full moon birth in decades. The Oracle of that time had a prophecy that the child born on a full moon would be the salvation or damnation of the packs. The Luna would have to give up her child to the Sages when it was time.
Years later, Helena returned with a strange power. She had found a way to cast the dark spell without the requirement of a soul bonded heart of a mate. She had found a way to become one with the darkness, become the darkness itself. The price for such immense power was her very soul. She demanded that the packs swear themselves to her as the supreme Queen. They refused of course, and to prove a point, she wiped the Lycan pack out of existence.”
“Just one person destroyed the Lycans? The strongest species of wolves. How on earth are we supposed to fight that?”
The Oracle continued like he hadn’t spoken, and Margaret noticed that the longer she spoke, the more transparent she became.
“She went for her pack next, the magic pack. Their strongest spells were useless against her. They used their combined life force to put a protection spell on the other eight packs and they too became extinct, like the lycans. The other packs knew that the protection spell would not last forever, especially since Helena was actively trying to find a way to reverse it. With her expertise and new found power, she would find a way to break the spell one way or another. They had no choice but to find the Oracle..”
“Hold on, the Oracle was from the Magic pack right? They were already extinct, how could they possibly find a dead Oracle?”
“The Oracle, though part of the pack, is a separate entity that conforms to it’s own rules. The Oracle exists on the thin line between life and death and is neither dead or alive. She can’t kill what cannot die. Over time, one fades and another takes it’s place. The Oracle chooses it’s vessel. And whoever wants to speak to the Oracle must first find it. She was more concerned with other things like finding a way to break the protection spell, and mass destruction. The oracle’s message to them was a prophecy.
********
The bond between a soul and darkness
Can only be broken by a stronger tie
The other half of a darkened soul
If a soul is left to bond
A spell ergo must be cast
The potions all be bound by blood
Of innocence borne on a full moon’s light
A sacrifice, one with the dark
Darkness will depart if the bond stands
One victory, but be warned
It thrives without it’s host
A greater threat without a soul
The only way, the first a cell
Forever bound and blind
Take heed the battle will not be fought
Before she be lain to rest
But when she awakens beware
********
They cast a spell prepared with their child’s blood and the war pack’s life force that destroyed Helena’s body, but hibernated her soul.”
“A whole pack just to make her sleep. But if her body is gone, how can she possibly be a threat anymore? The darkness wouldn’t need to bind itself to the soul of a physical host if it could operate without one.”
“Mason’s child became the host. That was why her blood was used to cast the spell. Her soul was bound to Helena’s, so now two souls occupy one body. She has been in stasis till recently. I have passed my message, now you must continue.”
“Seriously? Isn’t the Oracle supposed to have all knowledge, and you told us that you’ll be our guide. Aren’t you supposed to at least tell us what the lines mean? Why so cryptic?” Keith asked with a frown.
“My work is done and time is almost up. You can only leave here while the moon is out.” By now, they could barely see her, she had almost completely faded.
“Will I… WIll I see you again mother?” Margaret asked.
“Yes child. I will keep watch over you and I will be there when you need my help. I love you my child, and the years we spent together I will forever cherish. You have to find your own path now, and be strong so you don’t lose yourself.” She said and Margaret felt her warm touch on her cheek, even though they couldn’t see her anymore, only hear her voice.
“Do not miss me child, do not mourn my absence and that which you have lost. Treasure the new bonds and the new family you have now. Cherish the new memories. Follow the light to the surface.” As she said that, the gem in Margaret’s hand began to glow.
